Review: MILK MAKEUP Blur Stick

When I tried this at Sephora, I was stunned. I mean, if it can make my hand look like it had an instagram filter on it, then it for sure will do wonders for my face….right?

What is it: This blur-stick by Milk Makeup is exactly what it says it is…a blur stick. It’s a silicone free solid that is meant to minimize the appearance of fine lines, pores and any imperfections. As the creators say, it gives you a smooth invisible matte finish on every skin tone. You can use it as a primer. It’s colourless and a universal face filter. It’s oil-free as well, making it perfect for combination oily skin. You can purchase it at Sephora for $43 (CDN).

The Good: So when I tried this on my face the first time, I noticed something. The stick wasn’t creamy at all. In fact, it was a lot drier than I thought. So you definitely need to warm the product up on your hands before you apply on your face. I love the idea of the primer/blur stick being a stick because it’s super easy to apply. When I applied it on my face, I saw that it definitely did blur it out for a soft focus finish. It didn’t completely eliminate my pores but I mean I haven’t come across a product that does that completely yet (do you guys know any?). This product is good on its own…but I have combination oily skin, so it worked for me. I love pairing it with the Benefit Porefessional and then wearing a foundation on top. I found that it gave me the best “air brush” results. I love the packaging and the whole concept of this product.

The Bad: I’m not sure how anyone with dry skin will be able to make this work because it definitely was not creamy. If you just apply it straight from the stick (without warming it), then your makeup will cake because the formula is super dry. If you have oily skin, then this primer is for you! Other than that, I wouldn’t tell anyone to write this product off just yet. I have combination oily skin and it worked fine for me. This is a product you definitely want to try at some point but you won’t be completely missing out if you don’t want to (LOL).

Overall Rating: 8/10
