Review: MAC Cosmetics’ Basic Bitch Eyeshadow Palette

fullsizeoutput_367

I bet you’re thinking…why did MAC just name a palette Basic Bitch? Don’t worry, I thought the same thing too. As a part of MAC’s Girls line, MAC released 6 limited edition “personality” eye shadow palettes. I will be reviewing 3 of the 6 palettes and this is the most talked about one….the Basic Bitch palette.

fullsizeoutput_356

What’s in the palette: This palette is filled with 8 eye shadows, which range from shimmers to mattes, and a highlighter. This palette is filled with greys, plums and purples…perfect for a smoky eye! The highlighter in Love this bitch (lolz) is a frosted baby pink highlighter. Sly Girl & Tattle-Tale (probably two of my favourite shimmer shades by MAC) are micro-glitter shimmering shades. Hell in Heels & Gameplayer are your creamy mattes. Me, Me, Me, Ms. Personality, Big White Lie and Text Me Later are satin shades. The packaging is pretty sleek and includes a mirror.

The Good: Even past the controversy, I love everything about this palette. Majority of the shades are gorgeous on my lids and the names are super fun! I’m assuming MAC believes that the average basic bitch (I feel so strange writing the B word on my very G rated blog, but you know that’s life) is one that wants to have a smoky eye all the time. The formula of these shadows and the one highlighter are super-duper silky smooth. It wasn’t powdery when I swatched them and I loved how they just glided on without any fuss. The opacity is pretty decent, although some shades require you to pack on the shadow, majority of the shades are pretty opaque.

The Bad: So you can probably tell by the swatches that the colour pay off isn’t the best for some of the shades in this palette. BUT I will say the shades which didn’t have full opacity on first swatch, were super opaque when I spritzed my shadow brush with Fix+ to foil the shadows. They looked incredibly gorgeous. But aside from that, this palette is pretty awesome! I can see the name of this palette being an issue for a few and I wish the name wasn’t SO big on the palette.

Where you can get it: Any MAC retailer or MAC store for $48 (CDN).

Yves Rocher Beauty Haul

fullsizeoutput_340

A couple of weeks ago, I came across Yves Rocher at the mall and wondered why I hadn’t ever gone inside. Once I went in, I was mesmerized and decided to pick up some beauty goodies just to try the brand out!

  1. Blush Brush, Foundation Brush, Kabubki Brush, & Concealer Brush (These were on sale for $5 each and I just couldn’t resist)
  2. Botanical Nail Polish in Iridescent Anthracite, Frosted Pink Champagne, Litchi Glacé, Celadon Blue, Pearly Midnight Blue, Rose Grenadine (Again, these bottles of nail polish were only $3 each and one can never have enough nail polishes)
  3. Nourishing Body Lotion in Almond (I’m a sucker for body lotions and this one smelled heavenly)
  4. Radiant Lip & Cheek Crayon in Gold Pearl (I think I found my new glitter highlighter for my eyes and top coat for my lips)
  5. Radiant Lip Crayon in Golden Sand & Perfect Light Pink (These two were given to me for free and I can’t explain to you how much I’m in love with these two shades!)
  6. Liquid Hand Soap in Lavindin from Provence (You can never have enough lavender hand soap and since I’m going to be traveling soon, I wanted something small to carry with me)

Review: BECCA X Chrissy Teigen Glow Face Palette

fullsizeoutput_336

After hearing every single makeup junkie rave about this palette, I finally got my hands on it! When I heard that the infamous Chrissy Teigen teamed up with BECCA, I was excited. If you follow Chrissy, then you already know that this fashionista’s makeup is always on point…especially her cheeks! And the fact that she collaborated to create a palette that accentuates this feature for everyone is marvellous.

What’s in the palette: This palette includes two highlighters (Rose Gold & Beach Nectar), a blush (Hibiscus Bloom) and a bronzer (Malibu Soleil). It also comes with a built-in mirror and the packaging of this palette is ultra cute! The Rose Gold highlighter is obviously in a rose gold tone. The Beach Nectar highlighter is more of a light pink/peach highlighter. Hibiscus Bloom is a gorgeous satiny pink/gold. Malibu Soleil is your usual bronzer with a hint of shimmer.

DSC06290(From Top To Bottom: Rose Gold, Beach Nectar (the one with the writing and heart), Hibiscus Bloom, Malibu Soleil)

The Good: OMG. The highlighters are beautiful on pretty much any skin tone! Both the highlighters are different from one another and can be worn during the day or night! I love how pigmented and buildable the blush/bronzer are. One of the main reasons why I love this palette is because of its versatility. Not only can you use this for you cheeks, you can also use this on your eyes. I used this palette and only this palette for one week straight and the results were great! Also, the formula of all these shades are incredibly smooth! They all glide on so well on to your skin and you can layer them without looking cakey. I found that all these shades look super natural on my skin tone and after having this on all day, the shades didn’t move or look overdone (score).

The Bad: As much as I love this palette, I can’t seem to understand the sizes of the blush and bronzer included in this palette. They’re significantly smaller in size compared to the highlighters. Although, I guess that because this is a “glow” palette, the highlighters are going to be the highlight of this palette (LOLz) but I would love if the blush and bronzer were the same size because my understanding is that I would use more of the blush and bronzer than the highlighter. But, that’s literally the only negative thing I found.

Final Verdict: If you love highlighters, Chrissy Teigen or makeup in general, then this palette needs to be yours! Not only is this pigmented to the max, it gives you the perfect glow without looking like you spent hours doing your makeup. But you better get it fast because this baby is a limited edition release!

Where you can get it: $56 (CDN) at Sephora or on BECCA’s website.

So….I know it’s been like gazillion years since I’ve blogged about anything on here and here’s why:

  • I have a job that I’m extremely and as equally passionate about & balancing my love for this blog with that has been a challenge at times.
  • I’ve been feeling uninspired lately and that’s changing…slowly but surely.
  • I wanted to spend any free time I had doing things, learning things and just enjoying every moment life has to offer (which if you follow me on Instagram, then you already know).
  • I wanted to take a break from the blogging world and regroup.

Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, I’m ready to share with you the future of this blog and what will be happening going forward:

  • There will be a new blog post every Sunday. It can be beauty, fashion and/or lifestyle related or even Bollywood (lolz).
  • If I’m feeling extra inspired or something fun comes up and I’m dying to share, I will post in between! So there will definatley be bonus blog posts!
  • Also, make sure you’re following me on Instagram & Twitter (@DaffDiaries). That’s usually where I post first impressions of beauty products literally in real-time plus you get to see what I’m up on the daily!

Hope this clears the air! Thank you to all those loyal dolls, who’ve been here since the beginning. I started this blog out of pure boredom and not knowing what the heck I was doing in life. Although, things have been changing left and right, I am forever grateful for all of you that read and share!

Review: Too Faced Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick in Suck it & Sell Out

fullsizeoutput_143

Liquid lipsticks are literally the IT thing right now and I’m completely loving it. My obsession with liquid lipsticks began when I reviewed this product and it hasn’t stopped. These particular ones in this blog post are from Too Faced’s Melted Matte line. I picked up the shade “Sell out” because I was so impressed by the sample size I got in this box and I picked up “Suck it” because I loved how gorgeous the shade swatched on my arms.

fullsizeoutput_144

Okay let this be clear: I absolutely LOVE this product. These liquid lipsticks have to be one of my favourite ones at the moment. I love how smooth the applicator glided on to my lips. It’s extremely pigmented and I found that one swatch of the shade gives you enough product for your lips. The staying power of these shades are incredible. I ate, I drank, I did it all and nothing budged until I used makeup remover to remove it. The formula of this product is amazing. My lips were moisturized despite this being matte and liquid. I found that it made my lips smoother and felt incredibly comfortable on my lips. Also, I must add that these lipsticks dried very quickly when applied and I didn’t find that it would bleed out of my lips (I hope that made sense lol). The look of these bottles are super cute to, FYI. And AND AND I love the names for these shades! It’s so in your face gorgeous! 😛

fullsizeoutput_145

“Sell out”, which is the shade on the top, is described as a matte soft pinky brown. “Suck it”, the shade at the bottom, is described as a matte rosewood. I use “Sell out” at work all the time. It’s a pretty nude pink and it goes with practically any makeup look, which is perfect for when you want to upgrade your day look to a night look! “Suck it” is honestly one of my favourite plumy shades I’ve ever worn. I can’t wait to rock this every day in the fall time!

Overall, these liquid lipsticks are really good for their price ($25 CDN). I love the way these products look and feel. I cannot wait to try some of the other shades in the range! If you’re looking to add these babies in your makeup collection, you can purchase them at any Too Faced retailers (I got mine at Sephora).

Pros:

  • Super pigmented
  • Opaque
  • Comfortable on the lips, they don’t dry them out
  • Cute bottle
  • Incredible formula

Cons:

  • None!

Review: Huda Beauty Textured Shadows Palette, Rose Gold Edition

DSC04336

Huda Beauty’s first ever eye shadow palette has been one of the most coveted beauty items ever seen on Instagram. Trust me. It’s sold out almost every time it’s restocked and in this blog post, I’m going to tell you why. I own a bevy of eye shadow palettes and I don’t think I’ve ever come across something like this in a long time. I’m not going to tell you all the amazing things the creator of this palette has done, you can wikipedia that…what I will tell you is why this palette needs to be in your life.

DSC04346

This eye shadow palette contains 6 3D metal shades, 2 chromatic pressed pearl shadows, and 10 matte shadows…which brings you to a total of 18 shadows. 3D metal shades are basically glitter cream shadows. They’re extremely pigmented because of the glitter and are best applied with your fingers. The chromatic shades are micro glitter shadows with a pearly/sheeny finish, also super pigmented. The matte shadows are probably one of my favourites I’ve ever come across. The shades are just too beautiful and are SO pigmented.

DSC04353 Angelic, #Blessed, Bossy, Flamingo, Shy

DSC04355  Bae, Moon Dust, Black Truffle, Suede

DSC04359 Coco, Maneater, Henna, Sandalwood

The formula of the shadows are incredible. They’re buildable, they go smoothly on your lids and I didn’t notice a whole lot of fall out (especially the glitters). The colour pay off is amazing. They’re just so gorgeous. One of my favourite things about this palette is the names for each of these shades. The versatility of this palette is great. You can use it during the day or night. The packaging of this product is interesting and reminds me of Stila’s packaging. It has no mirror but just a magnetic clear flap covering it. It’s sleek and super easy to put into your makeup kit.

There is probably one MAJOR downside to this palette and that’s the luxurious price of $85 (CDN). I can understand that this is and will be a huge factor for a lot of people who are contemplating purchasing this palette but what you need to think about when purchasing this is the following: How often will I use this in comparison to my other palettes? I find a lot of the time this is what helps me decide if I really need an eye shadow palette in my kit. With all of that being said, I do think it is worth the money and the hype. You get a range of shadows that do multiple things and that alone sold it for me. You can pick this up online at Sephora for $85 (CDN)!

Pros:

  • Buildable
  • Amazing colour pay off
  • Range of shades is amazing
  • No major fall out, especially from the glitters

Cons:

  • Price
  • No mirror
