Review: MAC Cosmetics’ Basic Bitch Eyeshadow Palette

fullsizeoutput_367

I bet you’re thinking…why did MAC just name a palette Basic Bitch? Don’t worry, I thought the same thing too. As a part of MAC’s Girls line, MAC released 6 limited edition “personality” eye shadow palettes. I will be reviewing 3 of the 6 palettes and this is the most talked about one….the Basic Bitch palette.

fullsizeoutput_356

What’s in the palette: This palette is filled with 8 eye shadows, which range from shimmers to mattes, and a highlighter. This palette is filled with greys, plums and purples…perfect for a smoky eye! The highlighter in Love this bitch (lolz) is a frosted baby pink highlighter. Sly Girl & Tattle-Tale (probably two of my favourite shimmer shades by MAC) are micro-glitter shimmering shades. Hell in Heels & Gameplayer are your creamy mattes. Me, Me, Me, Ms. Personality, Big White Lie and Text Me Later are satin shades. The packaging is pretty sleek and includes a mirror.

fullsizeoutput_355

The Good: Even past the controversy, I love everything about this palette. Majority of the shades are gorgeous on my lids and the names are super fun! I’m assuming MAC believes that the average basic bitch (I feel so strange writing the B word on my very G rated blog, but you know that’s life) is one that wants to have a smoky eye all the time. The formula of these shadows and the one highlighter are super-duper silky smooth. It wasn’t powdery when I swatched them and I loved how they just glided on without any fuss. The opacity is pretty decent, although some shades require you to pack on the shadow, majority of the shades are pretty opaque.

The Bad: So you can probably tell by the swatches that the colour pay off isn’t the best for some of the shades in this palette. BUT I will say the shades which didn’t have full opacity on first swatch, were super opaque when I spritzed my shadow brush with Fix+ to foil the shadows. They looked incredibly gorgeous. But aside from that, this palette is pretty awesome! I can see the name of this palette being an issue for a few and I wish the name wasn’t SO big on the palette.

Where you can get it: Any MAC retailer or MAC store for $48 (CDN).

Review: Tom Ford Beauty’s Cheek Colour Blush In Wicked

dsc02459

Hi Dolls! Hope you’re having an awesome day! If you haven’t checked out my previous post then you can do so by clicking right here. Today, I’ve got a review of a blush for you. This is not an ordinary blush though, this particular gem is made by the coveted Tom Ford Beauty line. And if you know me personally, you already know that Tom Ford has to be one of my favourite designers out there, specifically for men’s clothing (seriously he enhances the handsomeness of every man who wears his designs). So when he came out with a beauty line, you know I fangirled hard!

First Impressions

dsc02456dsc02463

When I first saw this at the Holt Renfrew counter, I was mesmerized. Even though it’s got a hefty price tag, I fell in love at first swatch. Literally. I’m not even kidding. I tried it on my cheeks in the store and it brightened up my complexion so much that I just had to have it. I opted for the shade called Wicked. The shade is your typical reddish pink and the formula on first touch felt smooth! What I instantly loved about this is the fact that it’s neither sheer nor super opaque (you know clown looking) and that’s the perfect formula for a blush. It’s a powder that is supposed to feel like cream on your cheeks.

Product Formula & Packaging

dsc02460

The formula of this blush is incredible. It’s smooth and it blends into your cheeks SO well. Since it’s a powder that’s meant to feel like a cream on your cheeks, it isn’t powdery at all. In fact, I didn’t have any sort of fall out even when I had it on my brush. It’s SUPER buildable. If you want a sheer glow added to your cheeks, then all you have to do is tap it on your cheek bones and blend. If you want bold pop of colour, then you can layer to build intensity without looking like a clown. It felt like velvet on my cheeks and it didn’t bother my skin or my foundation at all. Also, it stayed put until I used makeup wipes to remove it! I think the best way I can describe this blush’s feel is that it’s super luxurious….and I like. The packaging is adorable, sleek and very Tom Ford. It comes in a velour pouch, perfect for travel. It also has a ginormous mirror as well as the size of the blush is pretty big.

Packaging Rating: 10/10

Product Formula: 10/10

Swatches

dsc02465dsc02470

As I mentioned, the shade I went with is called Wicked. It’s a pink with hints of red. All I have to say is that this has to be one of my favourite blushes to go to just based on colour and opacity. You can build the colour, you can have it sheer…YOU are the one in control and that’s the best part! The colour payoff is magnificently great!

Swatch: 10/10

Price, Availability, & Accessibility

So, it does have a hefty luxurious price tag attached to it. You can have this for a cool $71 (CDN) and it can be found online or at any Tom Ford Beauty retailer. I got mine at Holt Renfrew.

Final Verdict

Despite the price, I absolutely love this blush. It’s luxurious. The colour payoff is incredible and the best part is that YOU have control over how much you want on your cheeks because it’s so blendable. If you’ve got extra cash around, this is for you!

7 Times Sonam Kapoor Slayed Her Style Game

Hello Dolls! Hope you guys are doing great! As always, I’m back with a blog post for ya today and since my previous Bollywood style post was such a hit (thank you x), I’ve decided to bring you another style icon from Bollywood. But before you go ahead and read that, make sure you’ve checked out my last blog post. Also, don’t forget to follow me on Instagram for daily updates (also, my other socials are listed on the top of the page).

As I mentioned, this post is going to be about one of Bollywood’s most stylish actresses ever. Actually, she might be one of the most stylish actors to grace the world (there I said it). I’m talking about none other than Sonam Kapoor! If you want to know more about her, you can check out her wiki page. If we were to find a definition of what “#StyleGoals” was, it would be Sonam. Not only does this fashionista dress well, I also love how her hair and makeup are always on fleek. Below, you will find 7 of my favourite outfits Sonam has rocked (and let me make it clear, it was VERY hard to pick these because I practically love EVERYTHING she wears).

8b5fdf01593dbcc3fcb2bd94275cbd20

A plain red lehenga on paper sounds bland, but only Sonam can make this outfit look super fashion forward. Also, the matching red lips is perfect.

15e4ebeaa52124172381cbb6e4ba2f83 So, I have a soft spot for anything blush toned but this outfit is literally what I would call the perfect blush dress. Also, the heels and her hair are to die for.

315db5247566b2c66924e63f867d075cThis is something I like to wear pretty much every other day and in different colours. This one’s my fav because Sonam makes even the simplest outfit looks SO chic. Me likey.

a63ec2fcf2d9ff52568e250758df4121This has been one of my favourite gowns I have ever seen on ANY red carpet. Everything about this is perfect and I want this so I can wear it every single day (don’t judge me).

d02473e33e4229faf3be989750abcc0aThe flared pant suit can be tricky for some to pull off but this fashion icon does it effortlessly. Everything from the cut to the hair to the pointy shoes is flawless!

ec353541936f1fec7ecf1d98d30b039eAHH. GIVE ME THIS OUTFIT. RIGHT. NOW. Seriously, I’m speechless at the level of perfection here.

c5fea0ad011f521ced7ca1743b7ca497I’m a sucker for classy cutouts in a dress and THIS look here is nothing short of elegant and classy. Sonam, how do you do it!? Can we swap style brains?

See you in the next post!

7 Times Katrina Kaif Slayed Her Style Game

Hello Dolls! Hope you’re having a lovely day! If you haven’t checked out my previous post then you can do so by clicking right here! Okay, so I just realized that I haven’t made a Bollywood post in years (OMG, I’m slacking). So I figured with 2017 in full swing, I’ll start off my first Bollywood post of this year by talking about how obsessed I am with Katrina Kaif’s style. If you don’t know who she is, then you can check out her wiki page. She’s one of the most talked about celebrity in Bollywood because of the different movie roles she chooses and her impeccable style sense. Below you will find 7 of my favourite looks Kat’s been rocking (which you can re-create too).

9d1cbaef54c7d96cdd28d6f83564418b

Seriously, only Kat can make an all black basic outfit look mysteriously gorgeous. This is exactly how one rocks casual chic.

41de1a5c2cfdc96417c51c4aac0af431

I added this look here mainly because I have rocked something similar (you can check that out here). I really love the boho chicness of this outfit.

74f37237d889dfde42710c67e7cebf94

Jeans, Louis V and a coloured leather jacket together can only create the most stylish outfit. Seriously, this is what travel style is all about.

82a8f0626351ffe33f52388dbac10851

I love the watercolour printed mini dress Katrina is rocking here. The red strappy heels really enhances this look and I want to insert all the heart emojis here.

260a0404ee310ecde17acaeb61accbdc

Something about the dressiness and the casualness of this outfit makes my heart skip a beat. I love the colour combos!

10826583dae7792dfe772faa1355b3e3

Blush toned dresses are my weaknesses. Seriously, every single person needs to own at least one piece of blush toned outfit. Also, peep the flat sandals. So simple and elegant.

ab03299c4b14dd9dff3d2f118c57ef6d

Kat looks gorgeous here. The colour combination of her shoes and dress are perfect. Also, that hair….so pretty!

Review: Kat Von D’s Shade+Light Contour Palette

Hello Dolls! If you haven’t checked out my previous post, then you can do so by clicking right here. As always, make sure to follow me on all my socials by simply searching Daff Diaries or clicking the links on the right hand side of this page! So without further adieu, I give you my review on this raved about palette!

dsc02440

First Impressions

If you’ve been an avid reader of this blog, then you’re already aware of the fact that Kat Von D makes some seriously amazing beauty products (hello, this one’s my all time fav). So, it was only natural that I would want to try this beauty line’s contour palette…especially, given that contouring is and always will be a beauty trend no matter what (thank you Kardashians). When I first saw this palette and swatched it, I fell in love with the fact that both the “shades” and “lights” were matte. The “shades” are the equivalent to the darker contour shades and the “lights” are the matte highlight shades (ain’t that cute?). Also, I love that she includes a How-to-guide in this packaging for newbies like me (bonus). Overall, I was very very VERY impressed when I first saw and tried this product. The names of these shades are pretty Kat Von D like (if you’re familiar with her products). One of my favourite things I noticed was the fact that all the colours in here were natural looking.

Product Application & Formula

fullsizeoutput_1b

The formula has to be one of the best I have ever used, especially for a powder. Seriously, it feels smooth and it’s super easy to blend. You can use a Beauty Blender or a brush and this looks flawless on your skin. One of the biggest pros of this product is the fact that it’s universally flattering for all skin tones. In fact, all the colours included in this palette will work with any skin tone because they’re natural looking shades (depending when the light hits you where). It’s easy to use and I found that I could combine the shades together without it looking cakey on my skin (woohoo). Theyre super buildable and it doesn’t irritate your skin! The best part about this product is that you don’t need a lot of it and it swatches incredibly well (scroll below). Every single shade is extremely opaque and gorgeous!  Along with being the perfect formula, the packaging is also nice. It’s got a ginormous mirror and the size is not super big, so you can travel with it.

Final Verdict

This has to be one of my most used contour palettes ever. It’s easy to use. It looks extremely natural and never cakey. It’s worth every single dime and I’m convinced that I will be repurchasing this product once I hit pan! The palette isn’t intimidating at all for newbies. You can use and combine these shades to get the perfect contour!

Review: Huda Beauty’s Liquid Matte Lipstick

Hi Dolls! If you haven’t read my last post, then you can do so by clicking right here! Also, make sure to follow me on all my socials by simply searching ‘DaffDiaries’ (or you can click on the links on the right hand side of this page).

15491560_10154728561563503_551547247_o

Okay, y’all been waiting for this one I know. I FINALLY got my hands on these liquid matte lipsticks by Huda Beauty! If you don’t know who she is or her brand, then you can just google it and find out how much of a mogul she has become (seriously that girl has built an epic brand…slay!). These matte liquid lipsticks were one of the products launched and I must say, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on these.

First Impressions

15555444_10154728561718503_1898257358_o

Can we please talk about how pretty the boxes are? Unlike other liquid lipsticks, these come in a slide out box (hope that makes sense). As you can see, the shade of the lipstick is labelled on the side with the colour name. On top of the box, you see lips with that exact lip shade on; biting on to the lipstick (talk about a beautiful illusion…so cool).  Not only that, the box has all her social media accounts listed (I mean she did become famous because of that). The lipstick bottle is frosted and has the logo on it. The brush applicator is just like any other liquid lipstick applicator.

Rating of packaging: 10/10

Product Formula

15491613_10154728561678503_906739578_o

I’ve tried many liquid lipsticks and let me tell you how impressed I am by these babies. Seriously, the consistency of these liquid lippies aren’t super thick yet when you apply them to your lips, it’s super pigmented. You do have to wait about 30-45 seconds for it to dry on your lips, which is not an issue because once it’s dry, there’s literally no transfer of colour anywhere. I wore each of the shades I’m going to mention for more than a few hours and believe me, I purposely did everything possible to see if these lipsticks would budge. I was astonished. Nothing came off. Nothing faded. It literally felt like magic on my lips. I ate an entire buffet meal, drank tons of coffee and bit my lip a few times…and NOTHING CAME OFF!!!!!! I love the vanilla-ish scent (very reminiscent of MAC) but that’s just an added bonus. So the main question you’re probably dying to ask me as you read this is: Did it dry out your lips? No BUT I did layer it on lip balm…so I’m not sure if that made a difference. It felt really comfortable on my lips and I didn’t need to reapply lip balm or even the lipstick.

Rating of formula: 10/1o

Product Application

Applying it was super easy. It’s exactly like how you would apply any other liquid lipstick. I do have one tip though, I tend to quickly apply my lipsticks (no matter the product) and with this one I felt like I needed to take an extra minute or two to make sure I filled my lips properly (mind you, I didn’t use a lip liner). I will say this though, you do not need more than ONE coat of this on your lips to get the true lipstick colour. One issue I encountered was the fact that after I applied this for the FIRST time, I didn’t wait the 30-45 seconds and found traces of the lipstick on my teeth (ew, no one likes that…I do have a hack for this…which I’ll share soon).

Rating: 9/10

Swatches

I made this nifty video to show you the swatches but I also included the pics here. I’m going to breakdown each shade and give a rating based on the pigmentation only. Also, can I point out the fact that these liquid lipsticks (er rather every Huda Beauty product out there) have such adorable names! Also, as the name suggests, all of these liquid lipsticks are matte. Even though when you swatch them on your lips, it looks a bit satiny…it dries to a matte finish.

Heartbreaker: It’s a bright red. I absolutely love this one the most. Online, it looked like your typical red but it’s a bright red and this looks really nice on my skin tone.             Rating: 10/10

Bombshell: This is your typical pinkish nude. I’d say this one is the same shade of my lips but a tad bit lighter, which makes this perfect for the workplace. With this particular one, I found that it faded a TINY bit after the 10 hour mark. Rating: 9.5/10

Famous: This one’s a dark plummy red. I’d say if you’re looking for the perfect dark pout, then this is it. With one swipe, I got the perfect dark pout I’ve always wanted.            Rating: 10/10

Trophy Wife: It’s a perfect dusty rosey mauve (woah loads of descriptions). I just love everything about this shade and I find that this looks amazing on any skin tone.       Rating: 10/10

Cheerleader: I think the best way to describe this as a blood-red. It’s beautiful and just your gorgeous everyday red! Rating: 10/10

15515668_10154728561568503_1395336089_o(Top to Bottom: Bombhshell, Trophy Wife, Cheerleader, Famous, Heartbreaker)

Price, Availability & Accessibility

These are only available online on Sephora or her own website for a cool $26 a pop (CDN). These are easily accessible through Sephora (I had them 4 days after I ordered them). I think the price is absolutely worth it for these shades. I can’t wait to order more in the future.

Final Verdict

15556274_10154728561578503_1789844956_o

LOVE LOVE LOVE (I mean if you’ve made it this far in my review, then you already know I love these). If you’re looking for a gift for your friends or even yourself, then these are it! Also, this is a great addition to any lipstick lovers lipstick closet!
