Review: MAC’s Hyper Real Glow in Flash+Awe & Get It Glowin’

fullsizeoutput_ea5

When MAC finally decided to come out with highlighter palettes, I wasn’t sure of what to expect. Individually, MAC highlighters can often be a hit or a miss for me so I was a little skeptical. I finally got my hands on both of these palettes and I’m here with a review of BOTH the palettes for you!

IMG_9119 2

What is it: MAC cosmetics put out two highlighter palettes, one in a pink shade zone and the other in a gold shade zone. Each palette comes with three shades and a mirror (score, you know how much I love my palettes to always have mirrors). Hyper Real Glow in Flash+Awe is a pinky/champagne highlighter palette. Hyper Real Glow in Get it Glowin’ is a golden highlighter palette. Both palettes claim to have formulas that will work for any skin type and tone. Although, the golden palette is geared towards darker skin dolls and the pink palette is for the lighter skin dolls. You can use these shades together or individually to get the most natural glow!

fullsizeoutput_eab

Flash+Awe Shades: Light Of The Party is a flesh toned shimmery peachy pink. Rosy Glow is a medium toned shimmer shell pink. Flash+Awe is a pale pink with silver shimmer.

fullsizeoutput_ea8

Get It Glowin’ Shades: Rosy Cheer is a rich golden bronze with fine gold shimmer. Get it Glowin’ is a peachy nude with fine gold shimmer. Gold Coasting is a champagne gold with gold shimmer.

fullsizeoutput_eaa

The Good: Okay, remember how I said I was skeptical about these palettes at the beginning of this post? Well, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have been skeptical because these highlighters are actually so good! In fact, all six shades did not disappoint! Of course, it’s up to you individually to decide which shade you want to use to highlight what…but I can safely say, each one of these shades looked radiant on my skin tone! The formula of these babies are amazing! It’s buttery soft to touch and I noticed I had zero fall out (even though MAC claims there might be some). Also, because they’re so smooth and soft, it’s incredibly easy to blend! Every time I’ve used any of these highlights, I always get asked what I’m wearing! Not only can you use this to highlight the high points of your face, you can use these as eye shadows (add fix+ and get foiled shadows!). Rosy Cheer can used to highlight your neck and legs too! Rosy Cheer is perfect to add to the centre of your lips when you’re rocking a super matte lip to add some definition. As you can see, I’m all about versatile products especially when you’re paying a pretty high price for these palettes! I love the look of these highlighters on my face. I find them to be natural and not glittery (despite having shimmer). The packaging of this product is pretty sleek! I love how I can slip it into my makeup bag if I’m traveling. All in all, both these palettes are pretty good!

(Flash+Awe Swatches)

The Bad: The price point might be a little bothersome for some. But you don’t have to get both of them, you can get one based on your skin tone!

(Get it Glowin’)

Overall Rating: 9/10 (you can get yours at MAC for $48 a pop)

Review: NYX Lid Lingerie in Dynamic, Revel and Rose Pearl

fullsizeoutput_e9d

NYX’s Lingerie line has got me all kinds of shook. So when I found out that they were releasing “eye tints” from this range, I was excited. They’ve got a matte range and a non-matte range. I picked up 2 from the matte range and 1 from their non-matte range. I’m always skeptical about liquid shadows because I find they tend to crease easily but I was excited to see how these would hold up!

fullsizeoutput_e9f

What is it: These eye tints by NYX cosmetics are the company’s foray into the liquid shadow world! It’s weightless, easy to apply and incredibly long-lasting. Their non-matte range offers an array of shades that have a pearl finish that isn’t glittery or too shimmery. They’re not meant to be super opaque but it can be built up. Similarly, the matte range offers the exact same thing but in matte shades (duh!). These shadows are meant to give you the most natural yet pretty tint to your lids! Dynamic, from the matte range, is a blush toned nude shade. Revel, another matte, is a nude almost close to my lid colour shade (lol). And finally, Rose pearl is a shimmery pinky rose! All of these retail for $10 at your local NYX retailer or store!

fullsizeoutput_e9e

The Good: OKAYYYYYYYYYYY. I won’t lie. I thought these would not be too good. Seriously. But when I used all of these, I was blown away! Even though they’re marketed as a “Sheer eye tint”, these are nowhere near sheer! I’d definitely say that they’re opaque but you can definitely wear it sheer too. I’ll go through each shade individually before I get into the formula. Rose Pearl is gorgeous. I use it as a base for any shimmery pinks I put on my lids or even when I don’t feel like doing too much on my eyes (hello work day!). Dynamic is a blush pink which looks great on my lids! I like to layer this one with some shades from the tartelette palette. I use Revel as a base on days I don’t feel like using any makeup at all! The formula of these are AMAZING. It’s not liquidy nor is it super moussey, if that even makes sense. I find that it’s a perfect balance of the two. The applicator wand is great. I use it to dot on my eye lids and then use a brush to blend. These blend incredibly well. In fact, it’s so super weightless that I forget that I have eye shadow on. Also, it blends with powders and other liquids so flawlessly! I am truly impressed. These lasted on my eyes throughout my work day and didn’t crease (I did use Too Faced’s shadow insurance as a base). So that’s always a plus. All in all, these particular shades are pretty awesome! I can’t wait to pick up some of the other shades to compare and see!

The Bad: N o t h i n g.

Review: NYX Vivid Brights in Vivid Envy & Vivid Sapphire

fullsizeoutput_bb2

I’m a sucker for coloured liquid liners. Something about the bright pop of colour just does it for me! When I was at the NYX Cosmetics store, I picked these two shades up on whim. In my head, I was thinking that it’s okay if these liners don’t work out because they were only $10 each. I mean could these really be as bright and vivid as the bottle claimed?

fullsizeoutput_bb4

What is it: As I mentioned, these are bright coloured liquid liners that are supposed to give you intense colour payoff all while remaining long wearing. I picked up the shades Vivid Envy and Vivid Sapphire. Vivid Envy is a gorgeous bright green. Vivid Sapphire is an intense bright blue. It’s not in a pen format but rather a wand (when you see the picture you’ll understand what I mean). It’s pretty simple to use, even if you’re not comfortable using liquid liners. The applicator is perfect for making thin or thick lines with ease! It retails for $10 (CDN).

fullsizeoutput_bb5

The Good: I have never been this impressed by a liquid liner. Especially one that is under $15. Let me first begin by saying how pigmented these liners are. The above picture is only one swipe of the colour. I took it before it dried so I can show you how pigmented the colours are. The formula of these are super creamy and easy to apply onto your lids. I found that it didn’t dry super fast but it wasn’t slow either. Once it was dry, the liner was matte and bright…just like its name! It was easy to use the wand to apply the liner and I was able to make my lines as thick or thin as I wanted. Another impressive quality of these liners are the fact that I was able to use it on my lower lash line and it didn’t irritate my eyes. This product is also super long wearing. My eyeliner didn’t move until I used makeup remover to remove it!

Review: MAC Cosmetics’ Basic Bitch Eyeshadow Palette

fullsizeoutput_367

I bet you’re thinking…why did MAC just name a palette Basic Bitch? Don’t worry, I thought the same thing too. As a part of MAC’s Girls line, MAC released 6 limited edition “personality” eye shadow palettes. I will be reviewing 3 of the 6 palettes and this is the most talked about one….the Basic Bitch palette.

fullsizeoutput_356

What’s in the palette: This palette is filled with 8 eye shadows, which range from shimmers to mattes, and a highlighter. This palette is filled with greys, plums and purples…perfect for a smoky eye! The highlighter in Love this bitch (lolz) is a frosted baby pink highlighter. Sly Girl & Tattle-Tale (probably two of my favourite shimmer shades by MAC) are micro-glitter shimmering shades. Hell in Heels & Gameplayer are your creamy mattes. Me, Me, Me, Ms. Personality, Big White Lie and Text Me Later are satin shades. The packaging is pretty sleek and includes a mirror.

fullsizeoutput_355

The Good: Even past the controversy, I love everything about this palette. Majority of the shades are gorgeous on my lids and the names are super fun! I’m assuming MAC believes that the average basic bitch (I feel so strange writing the B word on my very G rated blog, but you know that’s life) is one that wants to have a smoky eye all the time. The formula of these shadows and the one highlighter are super-duper silky smooth. It wasn’t powdery when I swatched them and I loved how they just glided on without any fuss. The opacity is pretty decent, although some shades require you to pack on the shadow, majority of the shades are pretty opaque.

The Bad: So you can probably tell by the swatches that the colour pay off isn’t the best for some of the shades in this palette. BUT I will say the shades which didn’t have full opacity on first swatch, were super opaque when I spritzed my shadow brush with Fix+ to foil the shadows. They looked incredibly gorgeous. But aside from that, this palette is pretty awesome! I can see the name of this palette being an issue for a few and I wish the name wasn’t SO big on the palette.

Where you can get it: Any MAC retailer or MAC store for $48 (CDN).

Rating: 8.5/10

Review: Kat Von D Everlasting Lip Liner in OG Lolita

DSC04378

When I heard that Kat Von D FINALLY decided to introduce lip liners in her coveted makeup line, I was ecstatic! I’m completely obsessed with her liquid liners and lipsticks, so picking this baby up during the Sephora spring sale was on my to do list!

DSC04381

I love wearing lip liners by themselves, especially in the summer because it’s a super simple way to give your lips a stained-lips look. I decided to pick up the shade “OG Lolita” because the lipstick version of this shade is probably one of my favourite to wear. It looked pretty online and I figured you can’t go wrong.

DSC04385

What I love about the packaging of this product is the fact that I don’t have to sharpen the lip liner to get more product, all I have to do is twist it (I’m all about the easy way out with makeup). The colour of the shade resembles the colour of the lip liner packaging, which is also pretty awesome because if you’re on the go, you don’t have to waste time reading the package for the names or shades.

DSC04387

When I first saw this in the flesh, I loved everything about it instantly. I promise I’m not being biased because this is genuinely one of the best lip liners I’ve ever tried. This product states that it’s 24 hour wear, water-resistant and super weightless when on your lips. It’s supposed to be super comfortable and not drying at all, so that you can wear it by itself or layer with other products.

DSC04388

When I swatched this product, I was floored by how smooth it felt. It glided on my lips so smoothly and it didn’t dry them out. When I layered it with the Lolita lipstick, I was astonished by how gorgeous it looked together! Hit up my Instagram for pics (shameless promo). The shade is a matte dusty rose, which is a gorgeous nude for me! What I loved about this the most is the fact that I did everything throughout my day and NOTHING moved. The shade stayed intact and I didn’t even feel the need to apply lip balm. I’m so impressed by this particular shade that I cannot wait to pick up more of her other shades, she’s got like 30 of them to choose from! The colour is SO pigmented. If you need a new lip liner, THIS IS IT! It retails for $22 (CDN), which is a pretty decent price for the quality of product you’re getting!

Pros:

  • Weightless
  • Matte, pigmented
  • Smooth, not drying at all
  • Great price
  • 24 hour wear, water-resistant
  • Long-wearing, doesn’t move from your lips until you use makeup remover

Cons:

  • NONE

Review: MAC Cosmetics’ Fluidline in Waveline

10575302_10153954928443503_2890290945866574228_o

Let it be known: my world WILL be in shambles if all forms of eyeliners were extinct (as dramatic as that sounds, it’s the truth). Now you already know that black eyeliners are literally the only thing I wear (most of the time). So why would I venture outside of that colour you ask? Well…LOOK. AT. THAT. COLOUR!! Is it not the most beautiful navy blue you’ve ever seen? Clearly, this was a complete impulse purchase on my part.

What is it?

12419287_10153954928103503_1298857937263987907_o

MAC cosmetics’ Fluidline liner in Waveline is described as a navy blue gel liner that has low levels of gold pearl infused in there (I know sounds super fancy). As you can see, it comes in a very generous pot (like most of their gel liners). Upon application, it’s supposed to feel silky smooth that gives off a soft finished look. It’s foolproof (you know that’s perfect for someone like me), long-wearing and the most important aspect of all gel liners….it’s smudge-proof! With one stroke of your brush, you are supposed to get the most opaque colour on your lids.

How long did I use it for?

Since August 2015 + counting.

First Impressions and thoughts?

12440719_10153954928008503_8279045466574419148_o

As I mentioned before, the colour itself was predominantly the reason why I bought this. Once I dipped my angle brush into the pot to get some product on, I already knew that I was going to love this. It glided on smoothly on my lids and didn’t feel dry at all. So for me, that was already a huge plus point. The colour was also so opaque that I literally contemplated wearing this every day. It was easy to apply and it didn’t smudge!

My Verdict?

If you’re going to purchase any gel liner, I highly recommend that you try this one out. This particular shade is wearable and gorgeous (& this is coming from a black eyeliner enthusiast). Every single claim is true about this product. I love the size and generosity of this product. Also, I need to mention the fact that I’ve had this for months and the gel liner has not dried out at all (A HUGE BONUS). It’s pro-longwear and I found that it literally did not budge/smudge until I used makeup remover to remove it. It was silky smooth and it glided effortlessly on to my lids. The formula was not drying on my lids at all! Another thing I really like about this product is that without any primers/shadows under it, you still get a pretty opaque line, which is completely budge proof (the swatches are done with no primer/shadow on the lids).

Price & Where can you buy it?

$20 (CDN) at MAC Cosmetics stores & retailers

Would I repurchase it?

THOUSAND PERCENT (also, I’m definitely picking up some other shades in the line in the next few weeks!)

Pros:

  • Smudge, budge proof
  • Opaque colour
  • Glides perfectly on the lids
  • Doesn’t dry out
  • Feels silky+smooth on your lids

Cons:

  • Nothing, Nada, Zilch!

Overall Rating: 10/10 (I cannot find a single thing wrong with this gel liner! If you’re on the lookout for a navy blue liner, then this is it!)
