This is prom night for celebrities and it is the most awaited day in every fashionista’s life. The infamous Met Gala is an annual fundraising gala, which raises money for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Arts. Every year there is a theme that coincides with the featured exhibit at the museum. This year the theme was China: Through the Looking Glass. This year’s gala chairs were the editor-in-chief of Vogue, Anna Wintour, Jennifer Lawrence, Gong Li, Marissa Mayer, and Wendi Murdoch. They were responsible for the benefit committee and the guest list (this is like the ultimate A list party you want to be invited to). Did you know that Anna Wintour personally approves every attendee’s outfit? Everyone tries to bring their A game to this party. Some do a great job, others fumble but below you will find my favourite looks from the Met Gala this year (in no particular order of course)!
Joshua Jackson in Alexander McQueen & Diane Kruger in Chanel
These two always look the cutest at any event they attend together. As always, Josh looked handsome, as always. I love that he went with a navy blue and black combination tux. Plus, he has such a cute bow tie on! Diane looked pretty in her ensemble. I love that red was her accent colour and the flowers in her hair compliments her flower printed trousers. Both of them looked adorable on the carpet.
Reese Witherspoon in Jason Wu
Reese looks incredibly elegant in this red strapless fitted gown. I love that she kept her ensemble in one colour, which made her gorgeous Tiffany & co. jewels stand out even more. The slit on this dress is done in a classy manner. Her shoes are gorgeous as well. Despite it being simple, Reese kept it super classy!
Gabrielle Union in Zac Posen
I love what Gabrielle wore. The deep berry purple long-sleeved gown looks amazing on her. The detailed work on the top half of the dress elevates this simple gown’s look. I love how she accessorized this whole ensemble. The purse, the rings, the hair and makeup were completely on point. Gabrielle looked great!
Candice Swanepoel in Michael Kors
This has to be one of my favourite Michael Kors dresses ever. Candice looked astonishing in this whole ensemble. The nude lace body hugging dress is beautiful. I love the embellished cuff! Everything from the accessories to the hair and makeup are pure perfection. Nothing is overdone and everything looks polished.
Dianna Agron in Tory Burch
Dianna looked gorgeous in this flowy one shouldered gown. I love the angular bird print at the bottom of her dress. The colour of the dress is also very pretty. This elegant ensemble is accessorized really well. Her emerald cocktail ring is gorgeous. I love that her hair and makeup give off a soft finish to this pretty look.
Beyonce in Givenchy
Can Queen B ever do wrong? Seriously, she was the last to arrive at the gala and she definitely made a statement with her barely there dress. Since, you can get away with pretty much anything at this particular event, Beyonce hits the mark with this whole ensemble. The embellishments are gorgeous and strategically put in the right places on this gown. The best part about this outfit has to be her sky-high ponytail. She looked incredible!
Rihanna in Guo Pei
Rihanna slayed the red carpet. This golden-yellow coat-dress was the talk of the Met gala. Everything from her head-piece to the length of the train is perfect. The detailed work on this coat is amazing and exquisitely executed. Actually, I cannot find anything wrong with this whole ensemble and for me, this was the best thing to grace the red carpet.
Zendaya in Fausto Puglisi
Zendaya is going to be the next fashionista on the block. This young starlet has been killing it at every red carpet appearance lately and this is nothing short of amazing. The red, black, gold and white combination of this costume gown is stunning! Everything is perfect about this look, from the hair to shoes (& that marvellous head-piece).
Claire Danes in Valentino
Claire looks grungy chic in this hunter green dress. The wide black belt detailing and the semi sheerness of this gown is gorgeous. I love that she went for this edgy look. The side swept hair and the dark lips are very in. The minimal accessories are also on point and Claire looks super rocker chic while looking elegant! Valentino did a great job with this dress.
Robert Pattinson in Dior Homme
How handsome does Robert look? Seriously, this old school Dior classic black and white tux looked great on him. The best part about this outfit has to be the offset untied bow tie. It’s artistic, it’s stylish and it’s very Met Gala. The swishy hair and smolder is very effortless chic!
Kate Mara in Diane Von Furstenberg
Kate Mara killed it on the red carpet in this elegant yet artistic ensemble. This white DVF gown with a Chinese collar, deep V cut and high slit looked unbelievably stylish. The black cherry blossom print is very pretty. I love that Kate went with a slicked back hair look and super minimal makeup, making this gorgeous dress the focal point of the ensemble!
Miguel in Michael Kors
Miguel looked handsome and very dapper in this siren red and black suit. MK did a great job with this ensemble. I love that Miguel took a risk wearing such a bold colour on the red carpet, which paid off. The colour blocking between red and black was beautiful. The gelled hair and smolder finish up this look.
Kate Hudson in Michael Kors
Let’s just say the Met gala belonged to Michael Kors. Almost every celebrity he dressed looked amazing (& also made this list). Kate looked amazing in this gold sequins embellished column gown. This fit her like a glove and the high neck looked great. I love her hair and makeup with this ensemble, which she kept simple yet stylish! Also, how pretty is the head piece?
Eddie Redmayne & Hannah Bagshawe in Valentino
How adorable do these two look in their matching Valentino outfits? Hannah Bagshawe is definitely a fashionista in the making. This whole year she has brought the it factor to every red carpet and event, including this one. This black and white gown with cutouts on the side looked amazing on her. I love the single printed flower in the middle, it really brings the whole dress together. Eddie, on the other hand, looked handsome as always and we all know I love anyone in a bow tie! He kept it classic and looked stylish!
