Review: Huda Beauty Textured Shadows Palette, Rose Gold Edition

Huda Beauty’s first ever eye shadow palette has been one of the most coveted beauty items ever seen on Instagram. Trust me. It’s sold out almost every time it’s restocked and in this blog post, I’m going to tell you why. I own a bevy of eye shadow palettes and I don’t think I’ve ever come across something like this in a long time. I’m not going to tell you all the amazing things the creator of this palette has done, you can wikipedia that…what I will tell you is why this palette needs to be in your life.

This eye shadow palette contains 6 3D metal shades, 2 chromatic pressed pearl shadows, and 10 matte shadows…which brings you to a total of 18 shadows. 3D metal shades are basically glitter cream shadows. They’re extremely pigmented because of the glitter and are best applied with your fingers. The chromatic shades are micro glitter shadows with a pearly/sheeny finish, also super pigmented. The matte shadows are probably one of my favourites I’ve ever come across. The shades are just too beautiful and are SO pigmented.

The formula of the shadows are incredible. They’re buildable, they go smoothly on your lids and I didn’t notice a whole lot of fall out (especially the glitters). The colour pay off is amazing. They’re just so gorgeous. One of my favourite things about this palette is the names for each of these shades. The versatility of this palette is great. You can use it during the day or night. The packaging of this product is interesting and reminds me of Stila’s packaging. It has no mirror but just a magnetic clear flap covering it. It’s sleek and super easy to put into your makeup kit.

There is probably one MAJOR downside to this palette and that’s the luxurious price of $85 (CDN). I can understand that this is and will be a huge factor for a lot of people who are contemplating purchasing this palette but what you need to think about when purchasing this is the following: How often will I use this in comparison to my other palettes? I find a lot of the time this is what helps me decide if I really need an eye shadow palette in my kit. With all of that being said, I do think it is worth the money and the hype. You get a range of shadows that do multiple things and that alone sold it for me. You can pick this up online at Sephora for $85 (CDN)!

  • Buildable
  • Amazing colour pay off
  • Range of shades is amazing
  • No major fall out, especially from the glitters

  • Price
  • No mirror

Review: Urban Decay’s Naked Basics Palette

By now, I think everyone knows that Urban Decay has to be one of my favourite makeup brands (just search the tags on my blog and you’ll know why). So it’s only right that I give you another Urban Decay product review! This particular product I had purchased during my VIB Sephora Haul and I was excited to try this out because I had heard so much about it. I’m a huge sucker for eye shadow palettes so this was pretty intriguing to me. This is an all-matte eye shadow palette that features six neutral shadows that can be worn during the day and night. They aren’t all exclusive shades (you can purchase them on its own or in other palettes but there are 4 in there that are “never before seen”). The shadows are supposed to be versatile, wearable, neutral and have amazing pigmentation. According to Urban Decay, all six of these shadows have a new pigment infusion system, which gives every shade its velvety texture, rich colour, serious staying power and blendability.

The Colours

  1. Venus: Soft, off white demi matte (This is the only shade that’s a little bit more sheeny than the others, making this perfect for a highlight colour)
  2. Foxy: Light yellow cream (I use this as a highlight colour as well as on my inner corner of the eyelids)
  3. Walk Of Shame: Light peach (I use this as a base for all over my lids)
  4. Naked 2: Milk chocolate-brown (I use this with WOS for a daytime eye look for work)
  5. Faint: Chocolate brown (I use this on my crease and outer corner of the lids, depending on the eye look)
  6. Crave: Jet Black brownish black (I use this as a liner, for a smoky eye and everything in between!)

My Verdict?

You know what? I feel like whenever I really like an eye shadow palette and I’m reviewing it for my blog, I always say it is “the best” and what not (and trust me, it is my honest opinion). But, after using this eye shadow palette for four months now…I can seriously say this has to be one of the best matte eye shadow palettes I have ever used. It really doesn’t compare to all my other favourites and I find I reach for this one the most! First of all, the quality of these eye shadows are impeccable. Which is completely understandable since it is made by Urban Decay. Their eye shadows have never disappointed me. The texture is great for a matte eye shadow. The formula isn’t drying and with a good eye shadow primer, this doesn’t move at all and there’s no fall out. Second of all, I love the colour range for this palette. It has everything from a light highlight shade to a dark black shadow (perfect for a smoky eye). I find myself using all the shades and no specific one has been left out. The colours are also really pigmented and because of its velvety texture the colours blend really well with one another. Thirdly, the packaging of this palette is great for travel and your makeup bag. It’s sleek, slim and very compact. It comes with a mirror, which is always a plus point for me with any eye shadow palette. Lastly, I love this palette mainly because it’s so versatile. It’s perfect for your workplace and it’s perfect for a night out. The shadows in this palette can be used to transition your day-to-night eye look (which is also another thing I look for in an eye palette). All in all, this seriously is one eye shadow palette I think everyone should own because the colours are neutral and perfect for any skin tone (perfect gift alert). Also, this is a great palette for someone who is just dabbling into the world of eye shadow. Everything about this palette is great! You can purchase this at any Urban Decay retailer. I got mine at Sephora for $34 (CDN).

  • Versatile, perfect for all skin tones
  • Highly pigmented colours
  • Blends well, rich velvety texture
  • All matte palette
  • Cute packaging, comes with a mirror

  • Nothing at all (trust me I tried to find something wrong with this)

Rating: 10/10 (I’m pretty sure if I could rate this higher I probably would. Everyone should own this neutral palette because it really is perfect!)

Review: Urban Decay’s Naked 2 Palette

Everyone that’s a makeup addict already knows about the infamous “Naked” line of products from Urban Decay. After becoming a cult hit, Urban Decay decided to put out a second edition of the Naked palette, calling it the Naked 2 Palette. The first edition of the naked palette had 12 eye shadows that were bronze based and warmer in tone. The Naked 2 palette also offers 12 eye shadows that are taupe and grey-beige based neutrals and are a bit cooler in tone. This palette comes with a double ended “Good Karma” shadow and crease brush as well as sample packets of Eye Shadow Primer Potions. All of the colours in this palette can be used either for a day time look or a night time look, the possibilities are endless. These shadows range from matte, satin to shimmery. After swatching the palette at Sephora, I was so impressed that I had to give it a whirl!

My Verdict?

I am a die-hard Naked Palette user, so this particular palette for me came with high expectations. Urban Decay did not disappoint me at all. Although, initially I was unsure if I would love this palette as much as the original Naked palette but I have fallen in love with this palette as well. In fact, I sometimes have a hard time deciding which palette to use because I love them both equally and there have been times when both the original Naked palette and the Naked 2 palette have travelled with me wherever I went. Everything about the Naked 2 palette is great. Firstly, the pigmentation and opacity of the shadows are incredible. With one swipe, you get a lot of colour. They’re buttery, soft and smooth. They glide on your eyelids. Secondly, the formula of the shadows is amazing! There’s absolutely no fall-out from any of the shadows (including the shimmery ones). There’s no creasing either. Thirdly, the longevity of this product on your lids is incredibly awesome! Nothing moved or smudged throughout the duration of the product on my lids. In fact, I had to use makeup remover to remove it. Another thing I love about this product is the versatility of the eye shadows. It’s perfect to wear during the day or night and all the shadows can work harmoniously together with one another or they can be used alone. Lastly, the packaging of this product is better than the original Naked Palette’s casing. It’s a metal shut case, which is perfect for when you are travelling. Also, the brush is fantastic. I use the dual ended brush not only with this palette but also with all my other eye shadows. All in all, this is one phenomenal eye shadow palette. It really is different from the original Naked palette. This is perfect for anyone who wants to own both palettes. At $64(CDN), this is worth every little bit of your money. Also, the price is exactly the same as the original Naked Palette. So if you are going to invest in any taupey/beige based neutral palette, then this has to be it! You can purchase this at Sephora (that’s where I got mine) or any other Urban Decay retailers. I highly recommend this products to anyone who is in the market for a great neutral palette!

The Colours

  1. Foxy: This matte cream colour is perfect as a highlight colour.
  2. Half Baked: This colour is also featured in the Naked Palette and is a shimmery golden-bronze colour, perfect as a base for a smoky eye.
  3. Booty Call: This shimmery pale pink colour is perfect as a highlight as well.
  4. Chopper: This shimmery shadow with silver microglitter is a beautiful shadow!
  5. Tease: A matte pale brown, which I use mainly to define my crease.
  6. Snakebite: This dark shimmery metallic bronze is a gorgeous colour!
  7. Suspect: This is a pale golden shimmery beige colour, perfect for a base shadow colour!
  8. Pistol: This shimmery light gray/brown shadow is perfect for a smoldering eye look.
  9. Verve: This is a shimmery white shadow perfect on its own or in the inner corners of your eyes.
  10. YDK: This shimmery/metallic bronze colour is beautiful on its own.
  11. Busted: A shimmery deep brown, perfect for your outer corner!
  12. Blackout: This has to be one of the blackest matte shadows I have seen in a palette!

My favourite shades are YDK, Foxy, Chopper, Tease and Snakebite

Rating: 10/10 (This is an amazing sequel to a great original. If you love Urban Decay’s shadows, then this palette is a must have!)

Review: L’Oreal’s Colour Riche Eye Shadow in What Happens In Vegas

I love colourful eye shadow palettes, especially inexpensive sleek ones! L’Oreal Paris, as a brand, has been around for a while now. They are known to make quality drugstore makeup products, especially eye shadows (for a fraction of the price of expensive brands). This particular eye shadow quad is from their Colour Riche line. The eye shadows in this line are supposed to be super silky in texture and rich in colour (hence the name). L’Oreal believes that these quads are pigment-packed shades that have been created to coordinate expertly with one another, so that you can wear all four shadows together or separately. This particular palette is from their “Brazen Bold” eyes selection. This quad comes with a detailed re-creatable look in the back and a mini shadow applicator brush. The shadows are supposed to be velvety rich in formula so that it’s easy to blend. The name of this palette, What Happens In Vegas, is in perfect harmony with the colours featured. The colour selection includes a bright shimmery orange, a shimmery yellow cream, a matte orange and a shimmery/sparkly brown.

My Verdict?

This is my go-to palette whenever I’m wearing traditional Indian clothing (sarees, kameez, etc). The shadows coordinate really well with one another and you can also wear these by themselves. I find that this particular quad makes my brown eyes pop even more. The shadows are very velvety and buttery smooth in texture. They also blend really well without feeling powdery. The shimmery brown shadow is one of my favourite colours to use when I’m creating a smoky eye (especially for a South Asian inspired look). The shadows are pretty well pigmented. With that being said, there was one downside to this product as a whole. I found that if I used these eye shadows without an eye shadow primer, then there was a little fall out. But, with an eye shadow primer, I didn’t have that issue at all. The longevity was great because of the primer I was using and there was no creasing. All in all, this is a pretty good quality product and is completely worth purchasing (at less than $10 CDN). I was quite impressed with the quality of this quad and I cannot wait to add more of the other quads in my makeup stash! You can purchase this at any drugstores that sells L’Oreal products!

Happy Shopping Dolls! x

  • Inexpensive
  • Pigmented
  • Buttery smooth, velvety soft texture
  • All four colours work well together, can also be worn alone
  • Super sleek palette, perfect for traveling, includes an applicator brush

  • There is a little fall out for some of the shades, but if you use a good eye shadow primer you can avoid it.

Rating: 8.5/10 (A very inexpensive yet great palette! If you’re looking to try a bold brazen eye, this is the palette to purchase!)

Review: Urban Decay’s Naked Palette

The infamous “Naked” line from Urban Decay has been raved about immensely. This particular product was the first product to be launched in the “Naked” line. It’s been around the makeup circuit for a while now as everyone keeps raving about this particular palette. Urban Decay’s “Naked” line of products are created to universally flatter every skin tone. This particular palette consists of 12 universally flattering neutral eye shadows. This was probably the first product of its kind to be in the makeup market. The 12 shadows’ finishes range from shimmery, matte to satin. These colours are perfect to wear during the day (at work or while running errands) and the night. Urban Decay’s most versatile palette includes a mirror, dual ended shadow brush & 4 sample size eyeshadow primers (one of the best out there). When I purchased this, it only came with the one-sided shadow brush and a deluxe size eyeshadow potion primer (as you can see I’ve had it for a while now!)

My Verdict?

Urban Decay has created one of the best neutral makeup palettes of all time (as Kanye West would say if he was into makeup). This is my most trusted and most used palette. This has travelled with me everywhere and has become my go to palette. Everything about this is phenomenal. First of all, I love how versatile this palette is. The colour range is incredible. There isn’t a single colour here I don’t love. You can also create numerous looks just from this one palette. It can be a simple look or a dramatic smoky eye, this palette has all the shades you need! Secondly, the pigmentation of these eye shadows are fantastic. There’s no fallout, no creasing and the longevity is great on my oily eye lids (although I always make sure to use a primer). The opacity of these colours are great. The shadows are buttery smooth in texture and glide/blend perfectly on your lids. Thirdly, the casing and the brush that is included is awesome! This particular brush has become my daily use brush for any eyeshadow now. Lastly, there isn’t a single horrible thing about this palette. I tried really hard to find something wrong, but to this day I haven’t and I’m glad I have this in my makeup drawer. At $64 (CDN), this palette is worth every single penny. If you are going to invest in any neutral makeup palette, this has to be it! You can purchase this at Sephora (that’s where I got mine) or any other Urban Decay retailers. I highly recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a great makeup palette! Seriously, BEST. PRODUCT. EVER.

The Colours

  1. Virgin: I use this nude satin colour as a highlight for my brow bone.
  2. Sin: I use this champagne shimmer as a base for a shimmery smoky eye.

  4. Sidecar: This beige sparkle is perfect as a base colour or on its own.

  12. Gunmetal: I use this dark grey metallic colour on its own to create a smouldering eye look!

Buck, Half Baked, Toasted & Hustle are my most used colours!

Sephora VIB Haul

The annual Sephora VIB Sale took place this past weekend and anyone who knows me, knows that this is the one day I wait for every year (next to my birthday & Boxing Day of course). If you want to know more about the Sephora Beauty Insider Program & how to score an invite to this sale, click here. Usually, I go in with a long list of items that I want to stock up on. This time around, I made a list of things I had either tried in sample size & loved or was dying to try. I made two trips to Sephora to purchase my goodies and I can’t wait to try all of them out in the next few weeks & months! Below is a list of the things I purchased and why I purchased them:

  1. Bumble & Bumble’s Non Stop Softness Set: I purchased this because the invisible hair oil has had rave reviews ever since its debut. It also won the coveted Allure’s best awards 2014, so of course I had to pick this set up. You get the full size hair oil with the corresponding deluxe size shampoo and conditioner (all for the price of the full-sized hair oil).
  2. Marc Jacobs’ The Sky-Liner Set: As everyone is already aware, I have quite an unhealthy obsession with anything Marc Jacobs. I absolutely love the MJ Beauty line and have been dying to try these gel eye liners out for a while now. These liners are supposedly amazing because of its incredible staying power. I swatched this set and fell in love with the range of colours, which are perfect for this holiday season!
  3. Urban Decay’s Vice 3 Palette: I own the first two Vice Palettes and I loved them, so it was only right for me to purchase the 3rd one! These colours are gorgeous and Urban Decay’s quality of shadows have never disappointed me. I love that this time around you get a cute make up bag which fits the Palette perfectly with it!
  4. Tarte’s Pin Up Girl Blush Palette (currently sold out at Sephora & it’s limited edition so not sure if it’ll be back): This blush palette has to be one of the best buys of the Holiday season. I had purchased the one last year and fell in love with the colours. So this year when I went in and saw a whole set of new colours, I had to get this one too! This palette is so cute, it’s like a mini clutch and it has two adorable hair clips that come with it (& you know you can’t go with that).
  5. Bumble & Bumble’s Make it Big Set: This was one thing that was on my list to get! I had tried the thickening hairspray earlier and I fell in love with it. This boxed set is great because you get the full size hairspray with the corresponding shampoo/conditioner (which I have never tried!) all for the price of the full-sized hairspray. I’m very impressed with B&B’s holiday lineup this year!
  6. Sephora Favourites Give Me More Lip Set: I instantly fell in love with this set when I saw it. It’s got a nice serving of your nudes, berries, reds and pinks all in one box! You get a few full sized products along with deluxe sized products (which is find with me because I get to try different brands before I commit to them).
  7. Urban Decay’s Little Perversions Set: This is probably my favourite purchase. Urban Decay’s perversion liners are the blackest liners I have ever tried. This set contains different versions of the liner as well as the mascara/mascara primer. I had to pick this up because everyone knows you can’t have enough black liners!
  8. Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Bachelorette: This is one of the best liquid lipsticks I have ever tried and initially I went in looking for the shade Lolita (which is supposedly sold out everywhere) but picked up Bachelorette instead. The staying power of these lipsticks are insanely amazing. It is food, drink and kiss proof.
  9. Urban Decay’s Naked Basics 1: This purchase was made on a whim. I have been battling with whether or not I should get this. The reviews are great but I still was unsure because I already own all 3 of the naked palettes. The fact that the shadows are matte all in one palette is what swayed me to get this!
