Review: Esqido Gel Eyeliner in Black & Brown

fullsizeoutput_1217

When Esqido sent me these babies to try out, I was so excited! If you have been long time readers of this blog, then you already know how obsessed I am with eyeliners! Seriously. I cannot go anywhere without some sort of eyeliner on my lids or waterline!

fullsizeoutput_1218

What is it: These eyeliners are gel eyeliners that come in two shades: Black and Brown. It is pigmented, silky smooth and comes in the form of a retractable and sharpenable pen! One of my favourite things about these liners are the fact they come with an air-tight silicon ring closure around the top of the pencil. This helps the liner not dry out and last long! The pencils also come with a built-in sharpener attached at the bottom of the pencil! You can buy these online on Esqido’s website for $16 a pop (be sure to visit their website soon because they’re having a promo for these liners where you can get them both for the price of one!).

IMG_1679

The Pros: Let’s talk about how gel liners are literally the best thing ever created on this planet. Gel liners are perfect for everyday use because they glide on smooth and are extremely easy to use. Although, the down side to gel liners are that they tend to dry out a lot sooner than most eyeliners. This is NOT the case with Esqido’s liners. I have never been SO impressed with a gel liner! Even though these were sent to me, I can definitely tell you that I will hundred percent purchase these once I’m done using the two colours. The formula of these are incredible! It’s smooth, soft and super pigmented! One of the main reasons why I love these so much is because they lasted all day and all night on my eyes without smudging at all! I used them on my waterline and it stayed put! One swipe is all you need for these because they are incredibly pigmented. Also, I love that it’s retractable, making it easy to use when you’re traveling! If you want a precise tip all the time, you can use the sharpener attached at the bottom of the pencil (it’s SOO easy to use). These also pair well with ANY make up looks and false lashes! Another thing I loved about this was that it blended super well when I was doing a smoky eye look. This didn’t irritate my eyes nor did it dry out! Seriously, if you’re in the market to try a good gel liner this is it! They’re also matte. It definitely was waterproof because I wore these to a wedding last weekend and it did NOT smudge through the tears.

The Cons: GIVE ME MORE COLOURS! Currently, it is only available in Brown and Black but I can’t wait for bold colours, Esqido make this happen!!

Review: NYX Lid Lingerie in Dynamic, Revel and Rose Pearl

fullsizeoutput_e9d

NYX’s Lingerie line has got me all kinds of shook. So when I found out that they were releasing “eye tints” from this range, I was excited. They’ve got a matte range and a non-matte range. I picked up 2 from the matte range and 1 from their non-matte range. I’m always skeptical about liquid shadows because I find they tend to crease easily but I was excited to see how these would hold up!

fullsizeoutput_e9f

What is it: These eye tints by NYX cosmetics are the company’s foray into the liquid shadow world! It’s weightless, easy to apply and incredibly long-lasting. Their non-matte range offers an array of shades that have a pearl finish that isn’t glittery or too shimmery. They’re not meant to be super opaque but it can be built up. Similarly, the matte range offers the exact same thing but in matte shades (duh!). These shadows are meant to give you the most natural yet pretty tint to your lids! Dynamic, from the matte range, is a blush toned nude shade. Revel, another matte, is a nude almost close to my lid colour shade (lol). And finally, Rose pearl is a shimmery pinky rose! All of these retail for $10 at your local NYX retailer or store!

fullsizeoutput_e9e

The Good: OKAYYYYYYYYYYY. I won’t lie. I thought these would not be too good. Seriously. But when I used all of these, I was blown away! Even though they’re marketed as a “Sheer eye tint”, these are nowhere near sheer! I’d definitely say that they’re opaque but you can definitely wear it sheer too. I’ll go through each shade individually before I get into the formula. Rose Pearl is gorgeous. I use it as a base for any shimmery pinks I put on my lids or even when I don’t feel like doing too much on my eyes (hello work day!). Dynamic is a blush pink which looks great on my lids! I like to layer this one with some shades from the tartelette palette. I use Revel as a base on days I don’t feel like using any makeup at all! The formula of these are AMAZING. It’s not liquidy nor is it super moussey, if that even makes sense. I find that it’s a perfect balance of the two. The applicator wand is great. I use it to dot on my eye lids and then use a brush to blend. These blend incredibly well. In fact, it’s so super weightless that I forget that I have eye shadow on. Also, it blends with powders and other liquids so flawlessly! I am truly impressed. These lasted on my eyes throughout my work day and didn’t crease (I did use Too Faced’s shadow insurance as a base). So that’s always a plus. All in all, these particular shades are pretty awesome! I can’t wait to pick up some of the other shades to compare and see!

The Bad: N o t h i n g.

Review: Esqido Unisyn Lashes in Smoke & Fire & Companion Eyelash Glue

fullsizeoutput_dd4

I’ll be honest. I have NEVER worn false eyelashes before this particular review…and I’m not even sure why. I wonder if it’s the fear of having glue on my eyes or if it’s because I predominantly wear glasses. But that’s a whole different conversation! When I first laid my eyes on these lashes by Esqido, I was in love!

fullsizeoutput_dd6

What is it: The lashes I picked are called Smoke & Fire. They’re from Esqido’s Unisyn lashes line. According to Esqido, Unisyn is the world’s first true premium synthetic false eyelashes that are made with a blend of ultra-fine synthetic fibres for an ultra-natural look. AND if you know me, then you know I love my lashes to look natural but in the most dramatic way and that’s why I went with these lashes! I also got their Companion lash glue. The lash glue is clear, latex-free and strong enough to last all day! One of my favourite things about this brand is how easy it was to choose lashes for my particular need. On their website, they have a questionnaire designed to help you find your perfect lashes!

fullsizeoutput_dd8fullsizeoutput_dd9

The Good: Oh My Goodness. I am SO glad I found these lashes in my life. I mean look at how gorgeous it looks! It was so easy to use these! They were soft yet sturdy enough to apply. Once I applied them to my eyes, they didn’t budge, didn’t irritate my eyes and felt super natural. Also, I want to mention that I wore these with AND without glasses and let me tell you: despite being super long and voluminous, they didn’t interfere with my glasses or my vision at all…SCORE! Because of that very reason, I can’t wait to continue to incorporate falsies in my life more. Also, how adorable is the packaging of this product? I love the faux marble print background! The lashes itself are super easy to store in there and are also incredibly soft! I’m also in LOVE with the lash glue! The applicator is one of my favourites and I just love how easy it was to use, especially given this was my first time using lashes! No ifs, ands or buts here at all with this glue. It dried clear, it kept my lashes on and I was able to remove it easily too! The Smoke and Fire lashes have now become my go-to lashes for a night out! I’m being insanely honest when I say this: I genuinely like wearing false lashes because of this product! I just love how it transformed my makeup look.

fullsizeoutput_dd7

The Bad: N-O-T-H-I-N-G!

Before/After:

Review: Smashbox Cover Shot Eye Palette in Smoky

Hello Dolls! Hope you’re all doing great! I’ve got a few things for you in this post. Obviously, this is a review…duh! BUT I’ve also got a corresponding swatch video for you as well (you can click here, if that’s all you want to see). So without further adieu, let’s get in!

First Impressions

DSC02704

When I heard that Shay Mitchell was teaming up with Smashbox to be the face of their new cover shot eyeshadow palette line, I was excited! Although, I’m sad that all these colours aren’t in ONE big palette, I’m still glad they’ve released them based on different eye trends out there. I obviously wanted to purchase the Smoky palette because I have an unhealthy obsession with jewel toned shadows. I know I say this about most things I love but I genuinely fell in love at first swatch! These babies were smooth and pigmented so I couldn’t say no!

Product Application and Formula

DSC02880

If I could describe this palette in one word then it would definitely be PIGMENTED. I can’t explain to you, actually I can…when you look at the swatches, how gorgeous these shades come off! The formula is buttery smooth and it blends into one another flawlessly. I love that it has two matte basic shades in this palette. It’s not super powdery and it’s just perfect. The quality of these shadows are impeccable! The smoky palette includes everything you need to create the perfect smoky eye. I also LOVE that it has some shimmery shades, given glitter is the IT thing right now. With an amazing eye shadow primer, these shades stayed on my eyes the whole night and came off only when I used makeup remover. I will say that there was a tiny bit of fall out BUT I’m willing to let it slide because the shades are so perfectly curated and they complement each other so well.

Rating: 9.5/10

Swatches and Packaging

I think this video speaks for itself don’t you think? BUT if you insist, I’ve also included photo swatches and a little bit about each shade here.

DSC02892DSC02893

  • The two big matte shades in this palette are Feature (matte milk chocolate) and Instinct (matte cream). These can be used as bases, highlights for your brows and even as a crease blending shade
  • Headline is a shimmery maroon. Hell Ya is a metallic brown and Rock Me is a metallic silver.
  • STFU is a shimmery green and probably one of my favourite shades smashbox has put out. Slayer is s matte slate grey colour and Big Night is a black with shimmery glitter.
  • The packaging is literally one of my favourites because it’s sleek, easy to carry and has a big mirror. Also, the holographic cover is literally one of the coolest covers I’ve seen!

Rating: 10/10

Price: $35 (CDN) and you can purchase it at any Smashbox retailer, I got mine at Sephora.

Final Verdict

Do I think you need this palette in your life? YES. Do I think you can achieve the easiest most gorgeous smoky eye with this palette? YES YES. Is the price incredibly reasonable? YES YES YES! Honestly, this is easily one of my favourite launches from Smashbox! If you want these gorgeous shades, I suggest you head on over and purchase this palette ASAP!

Review: Urban Decay’s Full Spectrum Palette

Happy New Year Dolls! If you didn’t check out my previous blog post, then you can do that by clicking here! Since this is officially the first blog post of 2017, I wanted to start it off with a review because this was one of the main reasons why I had started blogging altogether. As always, you can follow me on all my social media accounts by simply searching Daff Diaries or clicking the links on the right hand side of this page!

dsc02385

If you’ve been an avid reader of this blog, then you already know how much I love Urban Decay as a brand. They have some of the best eye shadows out there and you will never be disappointed by any of their product launches. So when this palette first came out, like most people, I read the reviews. Now, some reviews were great and some not so much…so I figured why not give this palette a shot!

First Impressions

DSC02388.jpg

I’m what you call a true Urban Decay junkie, mainly because I own practically every palette this company puts out (so loyal UD, you should send me some stuff for the promo :P). Anyways, when I saw this palette at the Urban Decay store, I picked it up merely because it was on sale. I didn’t swatch all the colours. In fact, the only colour I swatched in-store was Calavera (the bright yellow) and it was super pigmented! That alone sold it for me. So when I first swatched everything, I will say there were a few shades that were powdery but by no means was it not pigmented. Yes, UD has had better palettes but this one isn’t AS bad as some people made it seem. I will say that you can’t wear these colours daily (unless you work somewhere that requires you to). But all in all, I was satisfied with what this product was going to offer me. It has a bevy of colours that goes absolutely well with all those South Asian events I attend and I don’t really own a similar palette like this.

Product Application & Swatches

As I mentioned, there were some shades which are a little powdery, but they’re not bad. You have to make sure you use an eyeshadow base with this palette so that you avoid fall out from the powder/glitter. Other than that, you can check out the video posted here to make up your mind about the swatches. I will say this though, you can use these shadows wet and boy, are they extremely pigmented when wet. Like all Urban Decay palettes, the shadows are buttery smooth and glide on to your lids without any sort of issue (with the exception of a few powdery shades). My favourite shades in the palette have to be Blindsided, Metamorphosis and Iced. The other thing I love about this product is the fact that there are 21 eye shadow shades which work on its own or with one another. With 2017 here, I already can sense that one of the biggest trends of this year is going to be the coloured smoky eye and this palette is perfect for that!  The packaging is your typical Urban Decay packaging. It’s got a hefty size mirror and it comes with their dual sided brush (one of my favs). Majority of these shadows are extremely pigmented and I love that the most unconventional colours are one of the best ones in the palette.

Swatch Rating: 8/10

Product Application Rating: 8/10

Packaging Rating: 10/10

Price & Availability

I bought mine at the Urban Decay store located inside Square One in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. But you can purchase this at Sephora or at any UD retailer for a cool $57 (CDN). I think it’s a steal because it is on sale right now and it’s limited edition!

Final Verdict

Do I think this is a must-have product for every single person out there? No. But do I think this is a great palette for those who love bright colours? Yes, a thousand and 1 percent. I don’t think this palette is bad at all despite having a few powdery shades. The swatches of some of the bright colours are amazing and when used wet, this is one killer palette! If you love colour, you better pick this up ASAP because it is ON SALE right now!

Overall Rating: 8/10

See you in the next post!

Review: MAC Cosmetics’ Fluidline in Waveline

10575302_10153954928443503_2890290945866574228_o

Let it be known: my world WILL be in shambles if all forms of eyeliners were extinct (as dramatic as that sounds, it’s the truth). Now you already know that black eyeliners are literally the only thing I wear (most of the time). So why would I venture outside of that colour you ask? Well…LOOK. AT. THAT. COLOUR!! Is it not the most beautiful navy blue you’ve ever seen? Clearly, this was a complete impulse purchase on my part.

What is it?

12419287_10153954928103503_1298857937263987907_o

MAC cosmetics’ Fluidline liner in Waveline is described as a navy blue gel liner that has low levels of gold pearl infused in there (I know sounds super fancy). As you can see, it comes in a very generous pot (like most of their gel liners). Upon application, it’s supposed to feel silky smooth that gives off a soft finished look. It’s foolproof (you know that’s perfect for someone like me), long-wearing and the most important aspect of all gel liners….it’s smudge-proof! With one stroke of your brush, you are supposed to get the most opaque colour on your lids.

How long did I use it for?

Since August 2015 + counting.

First Impressions and thoughts?

12440719_10153954928008503_8279045466574419148_o

As I mentioned before, the colour itself was predominantly the reason why I bought this. Once I dipped my angle brush into the pot to get some product on, I already knew that I was going to love this. It glided on smoothly on my lids and didn’t feel dry at all. So for me, that was already a huge plus point. The colour was also so opaque that I literally contemplated wearing this every day. It was easy to apply and it didn’t smudge!

My Verdict?

If you’re going to purchase any gel liner, I highly recommend that you try this one out. This particular shade is wearable and gorgeous (& this is coming from a black eyeliner enthusiast). Every single claim is true about this product. I love the size and generosity of this product. Also, I need to mention the fact that I’ve had this for months and the gel liner has not dried out at all (A HUGE BONUS). It’s pro-longwear and I found that it literally did not budge/smudge until I used makeup remover to remove it. It was silky smooth and it glided effortlessly on to my lids. The formula was not drying on my lids at all! Another thing I really like about this product is that without any primers/shadows under it, you still get a pretty opaque line, which is completely budge proof (the swatches are done with no primer/shadow on the lids).

Price & Where can you buy it?

$20 (CDN) at MAC Cosmetics stores & retailers

Would I repurchase it?

THOUSAND PERCENT (also, I’m definitely picking up some other shades in the line in the next few weeks!)

Pros:

  • Smudge, budge proof
  • Opaque colour
  • Glides perfectly on the lids
  • Doesn’t dry out
  • Feels silky+smooth on your lids

Cons:

  • Nothing, Nada, Zilch!

Overall Rating: 10/10 (I cannot find a single thing wrong with this gel liner! If you’re on the lookout for a navy blue liner, then this is it!)

Makeup Diaries: The Naked Battle

IMG_6205

Before the release of the new Naked Smoky Palette from Urban Decay, I’ve decided to do a little compare and contrast between all the Naked Palettes that I own. Each one of these palettes are unique yet similar to one another. Below, I’ll share a link to my review (click on the title/picture) and who will benefit the most from each one of these palettes. As always, if you’re not following me on my various social media accounts (seriously, why aren’t you yet?!), then give me a follow on these sites: Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest & Tumblr. 🙂

IMG_2886The Naked Palette

What: This is the original Naked palette, which created quite the frenzy when it first released. I still remember having to return to Sephora a few times before the palette was back in stock. At the time of this palette’s release, there was nothing like this on the market and being Urban Decay, I knew that the shadows would not disappoint.

Who will benefit the most: It’s a warm toned palette but I’ve seen almost every skin tone use this. Each one of these colours are gorgeous on practically anyone. Personally, this being the original Naked palette, I’m sentimental about this one.

How often do I use it: Quite often. If I’m not using just the palette for an eye look, then I’m usually picking out the colours I want to use for a certain eye look.

What I use it for the most: A golden/bronze smoky eye. I find that this palette is really perfect for any sort of smoky eye, whether it’s for a shimmery one or a matte one. Click here for an eye look created using this palette.

Why this should be the palette you purchase: …because this is THE original Naked Palette and honestly, if you have to pick out of all the Naked Palettes, then this really should be the one. It’s the most versatile and the most flattering on any skin tone.

 IMG_3799The Naked 2 Palette

What: This was the much-anticipated second installment of the Naked line of products from Urban Decay. This palette was specifically created to showcase cool toned shadows, which weren’t included in the original palette. Although, there’s a few shadows that were re-included in this palette from the original, it’s still a pretty unique palette. Again, Urban Decay hit it out of the park with this, which features some gorgeous metallics and shimmers.

Who will benefit from this the most: As much as I want to say this palette is made for all skin tones (it is, I mean I use it on my lids and haven’t had an issue), this palette looks the best on lighter skin tones. These shades don’t wash lighter skin tones out and it really does a great job at looking neutral. This doesn’t mean that if you have a darker skin tone, then you should miss out on this. The darker colours, shimmers and metallics will work wonderfully with any skin tone. But as a whole, this one is best for lighter skin toned dolls!

How often do I use it: If I’m being completely honest, not as much as my other Naked Palettes. This is probably because this palette (for my skin tone) isn’t perfect for daily wear. But I do use it for nights out, time to time.

What I use it for the most: Shimmery and metallic eye looks. Also, I have used the shade YDK alone on my lids a lot of times and it looks amazing! Here’s a look I did using this palette.

Why this should be the palette you purchase: …because the quality of the shadows are incredible. If you love cool toned shadows and/or metallic/shimmery shades, then this is the palette for you.

IMG_5199 The Naked 3

What: This had to be the palette I was waiting for the most. I’m a huge fan of anything that is rose hued or rose-gold. So, it was a given that I would be purchasing this no matter what the outcome. Again, UD (being the game changers they are) killed it with the third installment of the Naked palette. This palette includes rose hued shadows with a mixture of mattes, shimmers and satins (like the other palettes).

Who will benefit from this the most: Anyone. Honestly, I’ve spoken to anyone and everyone that have used this palette and the verdict is the same: It’s amazing. Although, it’s probably the priciest from the lot, but it really truly is a unique palette that flatters every single skin tone.

How often I use it: A lot. This palette is usually at the top of my bunch. I find that whenever I’m in doubt of what eye look to do, this is the palette I gravitate towards first. This also makes my brown eyes really pop out, so most of the time this is the palette I use for nights out.

What I use it for the most: Everything from a smokey eye to a shimmery eye to even using some of these shadows individually. The shade Nooner is used for almost all my eye looks I wear, as a crease/transition shadow.

Why this should be the palette you purchase:…because have you not seen how pretty the colours are? This palette is super versatile and even with the hefty price, it’s totally worth it. You can transition this palette from day-to-night very easily.

IMG_3882The Naked Basics

What: After releasing three installments of the Naked palettes, Urban Decay did something everyone was waiting for (including me). They decided to release a smaller, more compact version of the Naked palette featuring only “basic” matte eye shadows!

Who will benefit from this the most: Anyone who’s obsessed with matte shadows and anyone who needs something subtle for work. This palette works with any skin tone, despite being a more warm toned palette (which is why UD released a cooler and darker toned version of this palette, which I don’t own). Each one of these shades can be used with one another or by itself, which is perfect for the workplace environment.

How often I use it: Every day I am at work. Out of all the Naked palettes, this is the one I use everyday because the colours are not shimmery, they look great on my eyes and they’re matte as well as you can transition your eye look from work-day to party-night!

What I use it for the most: Everything from a subtle smoky eye to a basic brown eye. Sometimes, I just use Venus to highlight my brow area and that’s it. Here’s a look I did using this palette.

Why this should be the palette you purchase: …because it’s an all matte palette that’s super versatile and the size of this palette is perfect for travel!

There you go dolls, hope this guide helps you decide which Naked palette to go purchase! Have a great Sunday Dolls! x
