Review: MAC Cosmetics’ Fashion Fanatic Eyeshadow Palette

fullsizeoutput_359

MAC is killing the makeup game with their releases lately. This summer, they released a MAC Girls line where they created limited edition eyeshadow palettes based on different personalities. I will be reviewing 3 of the 6 palettes and this one is the Fashion Fanatic palette for the fashion forward girl who loves bold and unique shades!

fullsizeoutput_35a

What’s in the palette:  Like all the palettes MAC has put out in this GIRLS line, this palette includes 8 eyeshadows in different finishes and one highlighter. This palette includes daring bold and unique shades! Must Have It is an orangey bronzey opalescent highlighter. Mad Mod & Outfitted are the shimmery glitter shade in this palette (which are OH SO GORG!). On the Hip Side, Wild Card, & Fashion Fanatic are the creamy mattes. Shop, Shop, Shop, Style & Influencer and Totally fierce are your satiny pearl shades. The package is super sleek and includes a mirror, which is one of my favourite things about any palette.

fullsizeoutput_366

The Good: OMG I love everything about this palette. The names, the shades and the packaging scream Daff Diaries (lolz). No really, this is probably my favourite MAC Girls Palette. I love how the shades, despite being bold and not from the same shade range, compliment one another. The formula of these shades are so silky smooth. The shadows and the highlighter glide on so beautifully. And when you foil some of the lighter shades, they look stunning on the lids! Style & Influence is probably my favourite shade from this palette. I love how pretty the lilac is! The shimmery shades are gorgeous too! Another thing I love about this palette is the outer packaging! It’s so chic! This palette can be used to create so many different looks using multiple shades.

The Bad:  As with all the MAC Girls palettes, there are some shades which require you to foil them to get the true colour payoff. This is not a horrible thing, it’s just time-consuming which can be an issue for some. To Foil: Spritz your shadow brush with Fix+ and then dip you brush into the lighter shades. You will get amazing colour payoff with that technique!

Where you can get it: Any MAC retailer or MAC store for $48 (CDN).

Review: MAC Cosmetics’ Prissy Princess Eyeshadow Palette

fullsizeoutput_360

Did you know MAC came out with a GIRLS line this summer and based 6 eyeshadow palettes on different personalities of women? Well fear not, that’s why you have me! I will be reviewing 3 of the 6 palettes and this one is the Prissy Princess palette filled with the prettiest fairy tale-esque shades!

fullsizeoutput_361

What’s in the palette: Like all the palettes MAC has put out in this GIRLS line, this palette includes 8 eyeshadows in different finishes and one highlighter. This palette is filled with neutral pinks, taupes, browns and greys. The colours are just so pretty!  She’s a Rainbow (what an adorable name) is a pearly rose gold opalescent highlighter. Too Good To Be True is the glittery shimmer shade in this palette (probably one of my favs in this palette). Prissy Princess, Colour Me Spoiled and Spoil Yourself are the creamy matte shades. Fabness, Sweet Tart, Eternal Optimist and Good Girl & U Know It are the satiny pearly shades. The package is super sleek and includes a mirror, which is one of my favourite things about any palette.

fullsizeoutput_363

The Good: I feel like this palette was made for me. I love the names, I love the shades…I love everything about this palette. The neutral shades are perfect for the day and you can definitely use a few of these shades for your nighttime look too! The highlighter is pretty. As you can see, this is practically your pretty…girl next door palette filled with shades you just can’t hate! The formula of these shades are so buttery smooth! They glide on to your lids without any fuss and when some of the shades are foiled, the colour pay off is so intense!

The Bad: I love the colours of the packaging BUT the name of the palette, even though it’s in huge block letters, isn’t supper prominent. I wish Prissy Princess was written in a hot pink colour but that’s the only downside (if I’m being extra critical). Again, if you’ve my review about the other palettes in this line, you already know that there are a few shades in the palette which don’t have the best colour payoff unless the shadows are foiled.

Where you can get it: Any MAC retailer or MAC store for $48 (CDN).

Makeup Diaries: My Current Beauty Obsessions

IMG_4617

Who else is excited for spring to be here? I know I am! I find that with the season changing, I tend to gravitate towards makeup products that are more versatile and easy to use. Below you will find some of my favourite products and why I think they’re perfect for spring! Also, don’t forget to follow me on Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Tumblr!

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream SPF 35: I love this product because it works like a tinted moisturizer, which is perfect for spring! It lasts all day, gives me a natural look and leaves my skin looking flawless!

IMG_4619

Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon in Blackquer: I love black eye liner, no matter the season. This one is perfect because of its amazing staying power. It literally doesn’t come off unless you use makeup remover!

MAC Eye Shadow in Shroom: I love this eye shadow for spring because it looks amazing on every skin tone. It’s a pale colour that is opaque and its got a sheeny finish, which is perfect for spring. You can wear this alone or pair it with another eye shadow for a smoky eye!

 IMG_4622

MAC Eye Shadow in Antiqued: why not re-invent your smoky eye makeup this spring? This coppery brown colour is the perfect colour to swap your black shadow for. You can wear this on its own or pair it up with Shroom for a very modern yet pretty smoky eye, which is perfect for the spring time!

L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black Waterproof Mascara: Mascara should be worn during all seasons & at all times. No ifs, ands, or buts. This one is waterproof, which I like because with the season in transition, I find that my eyes water a bit. So this will prevent racoon eyes.

IMG_4620

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz: This has become one of my favourite eyebrow products ever created! This fills in your brows perfectly and naturally. It’s also very easy to use and your brows stay in place all day (hash tag: Eyebrows on fleek)!

Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick in Hydrangea: This is one of the prettiest pinky coral colour I have ever come across. Coral lipsticks are my go to for spring. It’s a perfect pop of colour that goes with everything!

Review: Tarte’s Tartelette Palette

IMG_3771

Often, it’s a rarity to see an eyeshadow palette devoted to just matte eyeshadow colours. Many makeup brands have tried to incorporate matte eyeshadows. Some have accomplished it greatly and some haven’t but there hasn’t been one exclusive palette that offers only matte shadows…until now. Tarte’s Tartelette Palette is the first of its kind and has been put out on the market due to popular demand. When I first saw this product on Sephora’s website, I was floored. A palette that features 12 exclusive matte eyeshadows that have been designed to work with one another? Sign me up because it was just too good to be true. In fact, I was so excited that I ended up purchasing this without reading any reviews or swatching the product. The Tartelette palette’s shadows are made with Amazonian Clay (just like most of Tarte’s products). This versatile palette is formulated without mineral oil, sodium and gluten. It’s dermatologist tested and very beneficial for your eye area! The packaging of this product is sleek and it comes with a pretty big mirror on one side. It also includes a How-to-guide on getting some day and night looks. These long-wear eyeshadows can be used as a liner, lid shadow and/or crease shadow, the possibilities are endless!

My Verdict?

IMG_3800 IMG_3801

Okay are you ready for what I have to say? This product is so incredibly amazing that I have dubbed it as the best eyeshadow palette I have ever used to this date. I’ve been using this palette for weeks now and I cannot explain to you how impressed I am by each and every single eyeshadow in this palette. There isn’t a single colour that I don’t like or don’t use! First of all, the quality of these eyeshadows are amazing! They’re buttery soft to touch and they perfectly glide on your lids without making any sort of mess or being streaky. The formula is incredible. Most of the time, matte eyeshadows tend to become either powdery or dry but this isn’t the case with any of these shadows. There’s no fall out, especially if you use it with an eyeshadow primer. The texture of the shadows are smooth and the formula does not irritate my eyes nor does it make the eye area dry! Secondly, each of the 12 shadows in this palette are so incredibly pigmented that you get enough colour with one swipe! Of course, you can build the colour up to your desired intensity but you don’t really have to pack on the layers as much. Third of all, the versatility of this palette is astonishing! Each and every colour here can work harmoniously with one another or can stand alone on its own. I’ve used some of the colours as liners and they worked great! You can pair them any way you want and it’ll work, so the possibilities of your eye look are endless! Also, did I mention all the colours are MATTE? The colours are so incredibly matte that they look phenomenal when they’re on your lids! Last of all, the packaging of the product is so adorable. It’s sleek, cute and small enough to fit in your makeup bag. I love that it has a big mirror as well. Also, the names for the shadows are so cute and empowering. This palette was created to celebrate, inspire and empower women and the names of the shadows really showcase that! All in all, this product is a must have for any eyeshadow lover, anyone looking for a new eyeshadow palette or anyone that loves matte eyeshadows! At $53 (CDN), you will not be disappointed! This is worth every little bit of your money and think of it as a long-term investment. I absolutely love this palette and have been using this obsessively the past few weeks! Tarte has hit the mark with this impressive product! You can purchase this at any Tarte retailer (I got mine at Sephora)!

Makeup Diaries: The Shimmery Orange Eye Look

IMG_2166

IMG_3442IMG_3444

Here’s a quick makeup look featuring L’Oreal’s “What happens in Vegas” eye shadow quad. I love using this for nights out, when I want a subtle pop of colour along with shimmer.

IMG_2173

(Shimmery Orange, Highlight Yellow, Matte Orange, Shimmery Brown)

1. Use a white eye shadow base, so that your colour pops out more. I’m using Urban Decay’s Primer Potion in Eden.

IMG_3451

2. Take Shimmery Orange and with a flat shadow brush of your choice, apply all over the lids.

IMG_3453

3. Take Matte Orange and with a crease brush of your choice, apply into the crease (smoking it out in the outer corner).

 IMG_3456

4. Use Highlight Yellow on your brow bones to highlight with a clean shadow brush. Also, lightly apply to the inner corners of your eyes.

IMG_3457

5. With a clean crease brush, in circular motions, blend out any harsh lines created so that you have a clean gradient effect.

IMG_3462

6. Using a liner brush, dip into Shimmery Brown and line your upper/lower lash line (staying as close as you can to the lash line).

 IMG_3474IMG_3475 IMG_3477IMG_3481

7. Finish off by filling in your brows and your favourite mascara!

Review: L’Oreal’s Colour Riche Eye Shadow in What Happens In Vegas

 IMG_2166

I love colourful eye shadow palettes, especially inexpensive sleek ones! L’Oreal Paris, as a brand, has been around for a while now. They are known to make quality drugstore makeup products, especially eye shadows (for a fraction of the price of expensive brands). This particular eye shadow quad is from their Colour Riche line. The eye shadows in this line are supposed to be super silky in texture and rich in colour (hence the name). L’Oreal believes that these quads are pigment-packed shades that have been created to coordinate expertly with one another, so that you can wear all four shadows together or separately. This particular palette is from their “Brazen Bold” eyes selection. This quad comes with a detailed re-creatable look in the back and a mini shadow applicator brush. The shadows are supposed to be velvety rich in formula so that it’s easy to blend. The name of this palette, What Happens In Vegas, is in perfect harmony with the colours featured. The colour selection includes a bright shimmery orange, a shimmery yellow cream, a matte orange and a shimmery/sparkly brown.

My Verdict?

IMG_2173

This is my go-to palette whenever I’m wearing traditional Indian clothing (sarees, kameez, etc). The shadows coordinate really well with one another and you can also wear these by themselves. I find that this particular quad makes my brown eyes pop even more. The shadows are very velvety and buttery smooth in texture. They also blend really well without feeling powdery. The shimmery brown shadow is one of my favourite colours to use when I’m creating a smoky eye (especially for a South Asian inspired look). The shadows are pretty well pigmented. With that being said, there was one downside to this product as a whole. I found that if I used these eye shadows without an eye shadow primer, then there was a little fall out. But, with an eye shadow primer, I didn’t have that issue at all. The longevity was great because of the primer I was using and there was no creasing. All in all, this is a pretty good quality product and is completely worth purchasing (at less than $10 CDN). I was quite impressed with the quality of this quad and I cannot wait to add more of the other quads in my makeup stash! You can purchase this at any drugstores that sells L’Oreal products!

Happy Shopping Dolls! x

Pros:

  • Inexpensive
  • Pigmented
  • Buttery smooth, velvety soft texture
  • All four colours work well together, can also be worn alone
  • Super sleek palette, perfect for traveling, includes an applicator brush

Cons:

  • There is a little fall out for some of the shades, but if you use a good eye shadow primer you can avoid it.

Rating: 8.5/10 (A very inexpensive yet great palette! If you’re looking to try a bold brazen eye, this is the palette to purchase!)

Review: Maybelline New York’s Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24hr Cream Gel Shadow in Tenacious Teal

IMG_2185IMG_2182

This product has been on the market for a while now and has also been raved immensely by almost every person that’s used this product. So of course, I had to give it a try! Maybelline New York’s Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24hr Cream Gel Shadows are described as one of their longest-lasting shadows. Their ink technology supposedly has created one of the most super-saturated colours. According to them, this cream gel smoothes on for vibrant colour that does not fade, crease and is perfect for sensitive eyes. The colour I chose to try was Tenacious Teal, which is your basic sheeny teal colour with microfine glitter pieces. When I swatched this from the tester, I instantly fell in love because to me it was the perfect teal!

What was my verdict on this product?

I absolutely love this product! This has to be one of the best cream gel shadows I have ever tried. The formula isn’t chunky or dry, it’s the perfect consistency. When applied on the eyelids, this product does not crease or fade. With one sweep, you are getting colour that’s super opaque. You can build the colour for drama and it doesn’t look heavy or feel strange on your lids (which can happen with most cream-based products). The best part of this product has to be its longevity! Although, I haven’t tried leaving this on for 24 hours straight…I have had it on for almost half a day and it looks like I just applied it to my eyelids! This product does not budge or move at all, which is perfect for those hot summer days! It’s perfect to wear as a liner (on both top and/or bottom lash lines) and it also makes a perfect base to make other eye shadows pop! You can apply this with a dense brush or your fingers (I’ve tried both and they work just as well). At less than $8 (CDN), you are seriously getting an amazing product. This product is so good that it can actually compete and beat out some of the higher end cream gel shadows in the market. Personally, I think everyone should own this particular product because it is the perfect teal. It has no fallout at all given that it has tiny glitter pieces blended in there. The colour is vibrant and isn’t sheer at all! This is one gorgeous colour! My favourite way to use this is to line my bottom lash line to make my eye makeup pop! I also love just using this on its own on my eyelids and creating a smokey eye with it! You can purchase this at any drugstore that sells Maybelline products!

Happy Shopping Dolls! x

  • Long lasting, 24 hour wear
  • Super saturated and opaque colour
  • Gorgeous colour, perfect teal, no fall out
  • Doesn’t fade, budge, crease or move
  • Perfect for sensitive eyes
  • Price

Cons:

  • None

Rating: 10/10 (This is the perfect cream gel shadow I have ever tried and this is the perfect teal! I’m so impressed that I can’t wait to try the other colours in this range)
