Review: Lush Lip Scrub In Honey

fullsizeoutput_610

Whenever I walk into a Lush store, I’m overwhelmed with excitement! Although, I will be the first one to admit that I didn’t know much about Lush until a friend urged me to go and check out their soaps. Once I went inside, I was intrigued with everything these natural/handmade/organic products had to offer. This particular product had been on my list to try out and boy am I glad I did.

fullsizeoutput_60f

What is it: This is a handmade lip scrub. I picked up the Honey flavour because it smelled oh so yummy. This pot is filled with castor sugar crystals mixed in with honey, white chocolate (yes you read that right), vanilla and jojoba oil as well as tingly mint. It’s  meant to flake all the dead & dry skin off your lips while leaving them super soft and smooth.

How it works: This isn’t just your average lip scrub. Nope. Not at all. It’s edible. Seriously. I mean you can’t eat it in spoonfuls but you can def lick the excess off your lips (it says so on the bottle, I’m not making this up). This is probably because all the products used in this are natural. With a Q-tip (you can use your fingers too), I take a pea size amount and apply it to my lips. Depending on the severity of my lips (winter is brutal), I either use the Q tip or my lips to spread the sugar crystals around to “flake” off the dead skin. The best thing about this product is there’s no need to rinse…you just lick your lips off (LOL)….or you can apply lip balm after…whatever floats your boat.

The Good: I love the size of this product. You get so much in a tiny pot and you don’t even need to use a lot of the product. The texture of this product is pretty good. The sugar crystals don’t melt upon touch and stays in tact on your lips until you begin to “scrub”. It’s super gentle, which is a HUGE plus point especially for sensitive lips. It’s really easy to work with and there’s no fallout. Although the product is edible, I haven’t tried to eat it nor have I licked it despite it smelling oh so good! The scrub did what it said it would do, which is good!

The Bad: With everything being said…unfortunately, this wasn’t like a life changing product for my lips. It’s nice, don’t get me wrong, but I felt like it was pretty average. After I took off the lip scrub, my lips weren’t over the top moisturized and I definitely had to apply lip balm…but that was literally the only downside to it. Nonetheless, this isn’t a horrible product at all. The price of this is $10.95(CDN) and you can pick it up at any Lush store or online.

Review: Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

DSC02718

Since we are transitioning between winter and spring (although, it feels more like winter here in Toronto), I figured I should share with you one of my favourite skin care products that I’m completely obsessed with. Before coming across Laneige’s Water Sleeping Mask, I honestly was having a little bit of an issue with my skin (I know such first world problems). I have combination oily skin, so I would notice that whenever the seasons would be transitioning, my skin would start acting wonkydonky (aka dry peeling patches). I never quite was able to find a long-term solution to it, until this product. Everything else I used would temporarily fix or rather moisturize my skin.

This is a gel based water sleeping mask that is meant to rejuvenate and hydrate your skin while you sleep (huzzah for this). Initially, I hadn’t tried a sleeping mask prior to this but I can safely say that I haven’t gone back since using this.

DSC04424

What I love about this product is how simple and easy it is to use. I slather this lightly on my face before bed (once a week) and I wake up with the softest skin I have ever had! It makes my skin extremely radiant and super moisturized. I found that ever since I incorporated this into my skin care routine, I’ve NEVER had those flaky skin issues between seasons changing. In fact, my skin’s elasticity has improved even more. This is perfect for all skin types and I love that this works while you sleep. It literally is every lazy girl’s (or boys) dream come true! It’s got a tiny bit of fragrance to it, but nothing that overpowers. The texture of the formula is AMAZING! Since it is a gel based mask, the formula is super light and doesn’t feel heavy when you apply it. In fact, it feels like you’re using a normal moisturizer. I also found that using this once a week made my skin a lot smoother in the long run. It never has irritated my skin nor has it caused any breakouts, which is a huge plus. I got mine at Sephora for $30 (CDN). Honestly, I hadn’t heard of this brand until I got a sample from Sephora and like I’ve already said, this really was a game changer for my skin in the long run. The size of the product is great because you really don’t need to use a lot of it. I definitely think this is worth every little bit, especially if you’re looking for a sleeping mask that give you results!

Pros:

  • Smells great
  • Moisturizes while you sleep
  • You wake up with glowy, radiant skin
  • Keeps skin super soft

Cons:

  • None

Review: The Body Shop Vitamin E Gentle Cleansing Facial Wipes

Hello Dolls! If you haven’t checked out my previous post, you can do so by clicking right here! I’m back again with a new review (and anotha 1)!

dsc02454

First Impressions, Product Feel & Thoughts

I had never heard of this product until I stepped foot inside The Body shop. In fact, I only picked this up because the whole store was buy 3 products for $33(CDN) and I needed a third product. The reason why I picked it up was because it smelled nice and I needed quick moisturizing cleansing wipes, which I can use on lazy days (which is often tbh). I gravitated towards this because it was pink, had Vitamin E and seemed pretty simple to use. So, when I got home…I used it immediately and I was extremely surprised. To me, this product was just a generic bunch of cleansing wipes I can use when I run out of my fav but AFTER I used it, I was shocked at how much I began to love it. It removed makeup flawlessly without irritating my skin and it left my skin super moisturized, which is perfect for the winter time. The formula in these wipes are meant to smooth out your skin and it def did do that at first use. It’s perfect for all skin types and it’s super gentle. According to the packaging, it’s supposed to cleanse, tone and moisturize all at one go. Although, I didn’t really see much of a “toning” effect. It did do everything else pretty well and I’m def going to repurchase this once I’m done. The packaging is your typical makeup towelette packaging and it’s pink (!!!).

Product Formula: 10/10

Packaging: 10/10

Product Result: 9/10

Price, Availability, Accessibility

As I mentioned, I got this part of a deal in-store 3 for $33 (CDN) but it retails for $16 for 25 towelettes. You can purchase this at The Body Shop!

Final Verdict

I will be the first one to admit, I underestimated this product immensely. I didn’t think it would be up to par with my Clinique wipes, but these are as good as them. I am definitely repurchasing this product not because it does the job well but because my skin felt so soft and smooth after that I didn’t even need to use a moisturizer (especially on those lazy nights you want to jump into bed).

Overall Rating: 9.5/10 (only because it claimed to tone your skin and I didn’t really see that but other than that this product is flawless)

See you in the next post!

Review: Origins Original Skin Retexturizing Rose Clay Mask

Hello Dolls! If you haven’t read my previous blog post, then you can do so right here! As always, follow me on all my socials by searching “Daff Diaries” or click the links on the right hand side of this blog page.

Okay, face masks were and still are the IT thing. Everywhere I went, everyone would be asking me about face masks or telling me about the face masks they’ve tried. Of course, in true Daff Diaries manner, I made a trip to my local Sephora to pick up a few to see what the rage was all about…and now I’ve got a review for you!

First Impressions

IMG_4616.JPG

When the worker at Sephora pointed me towards their face masks, I knew that there was one brand that I can always trust…and that’s Origins (remember how obsessed I was with THIS). Well, of course I had to go ahead and see what Origins had to offer. They had plenty but this was the one I gravitated towards the most. I have combination oily skin that’s also sensitive; so all I really wanted my face mask to do was not strip my face of moisture but still clean everything out. Also, I wanted that oh-so-glowy-face. This particular one made claims that it could do it all, including minimizing my pores (YES!). As I opened the bottle to smell it, I was mesmerized. It smells amazing. It’s got rose clay, which is great because clay is supposed to attract the dirt out of your skin. It’s also got Canadian Willow herb (which I’m assuming smells amazing because this product smells great) along with jojoba beads to exfoliate your skin (you can read more on their website). This product’s first impression for me was great and I couldn’t wait to go and try it!

Product Application & Result

I absolutely love the texture of this face mask. Even though it’s got jojoba beads to exfoliate, the formula/texture isn’t grainy at all. In fact, it’s smooth and very simple to apply on your face. I applied a thin layer and waited the 10 minutes the product recommends for it dry. It dried really fast and I could feel my face already tightening. Washing this product off was super easy. All you need is your fingers to gently massage the face mask off and warm water. Nothing else. So easy! The results were amazing. My first application of this product left me with super smooth, glowy and radiant skin! Although my pores didn’t minimize completely at first application, by the third application (I use this once a week), I could see my pores begin to vanish. I don’t think I’ve gotten this many compliments on my skin ever! Makeup application was easy (the next day) and my face looked healthier than ever!

Product Application Rating: 10/10

Price, availability and accessibility

As mentioned, I purchased mine at Sephora for $32 (CDN) and it’s worth EVERY single penny!!

Final Verdict

This is a perfect face mask for anyone looking to try a face mask! Every claim made by this product is true! Not only was I left with the best skin of my life, it didn’t seem to irritate my super sensitive combination oily skin (SCORE)!

Overall Rating: 10/10

See you in the next post!

kisses,

Review: Benefit Cosmetics’ High Beam

IMG_2919

Benefit has slowly and steadily become one of my favourite cosmetics company to purchase products from. I find that they tend to offer quality products for a decent amount of money (you can’t go wrong there). This particular product I had tried years ago at a Sephora store and was intrigued by it. This liquid highlighter, which looks like a nail polish bottle, is a satiny pink coloured highlighter. This highlighter is meant to accent your cheek and brow bones as well as your cupid’s bow above your lips (trust me this is the best way to get the perfect pout when wearing a bold colour). This highlighter leaves a dewy, radiant glow without any sparkles and glitter for a subtle luminous glow. You can use this alone as a normal highlighter or you can mix this with your moisturizer for an all over soft natural glow (How cool is that?). Benefit markets this as a “supermodel in a bottle” which is perfect for all skin tones (and you know I had to give it a whirl when a product comes with a tag line like that).

My verdict?

I completely understand why Benefit calls this product their “supermodel in a bottle”. I am so in love with this highlighter that I often find myself using this product. Firstly, the packaging of this product is amazing. It looks like nail polish but is super simple to use. Secondly, it leaves the perfect highlight effect for my skin tone. I find that it instantly makes my face look brighter and glowy. I’ve mixed this with my daily moisturizer and the effect I got was amazing. I had an all over glow, just like this product claimed. Mostly, I use this product on top of my makeup to highlight and accent certain parts of my face. I found that when I highlighted the brow bone, I got an instant lift making my eyes looks more awake. As I mentioned earlier, this is my favourite highlighter to use on the cupid’s bow above my lip, when I use a bold lip colour. Seriously, I get the perfect doll-like pout! Also, If you swipe this down the bridge of your nose and contour with a bronzer, you will seriously get that “supermodel” look. This product also blends really well. It might go on pink but once you blend you are left with a subtle highlight perfect for all skin tones! Lastly, the price of this product in relation to the size of this product is amazing. For $32 (CDN), you really are getting a big sized bottle that will probably last you a while (I have had a sample size for a while now, which I haven’t been able finish and I use it often). All in all, this is one heck of an amazing product and it truly is a “Supermodel” in a bottle! If you’re a newbie to highlighters, this product is perfect for you. It’s easy to use and the concept is simple. Plus it doesn’t hurt that Benefit’s website is full of tips and tricks! This is one of my favourite highlighters and I cannot wait to purchase it again once I’m done. I can’t go to a night-time event without this product on! You can purchase this at any Benefit retailer (I got mine at Sephora) and/or online!

Happy Shopping Dolls! x

Pros:

  • Not glittery, shimmery
  • Sheeny Pink Satin colour, which disappears when you blend
  • Blends really well, leaves you with a fresh, dewy glowy finish!
  • Supermodel in a bottle

Cons:

  • None, but I can see the price being an issue for some…but think of it as a long-term investment!

Rating: 10/10 (One of the best highlighters I have ever used, if not the best one. I can’t imagine any major event without this product on my face!)

Review: Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel

CHECK OUT MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL FOR MORE: bit.ly/daffdiaries

IMG_1778

Yes Yes Yes! I’m reviewing another Clinique product. But I can assure you, this is probably my most favourite and most repurchased product by Clinique. Years ago, I was having issues finding the perfect moisturizer for my combination oily skin. I found that either the moisturizers would be too greasy for my skin or would leave dry patches on my skin. After trying a bunch of different moisturizers without any sort of luck, I heard about this raved about product. Various bloggers/Vloggers would always catapult this product to a cult favourite status, so I figured I had to try it. Clinique’s dramatically different moisturizing gel is described as a lightweight, oil-free hydrator for combination and oily skin. Part of the 3-step system (which you don’t have to follow), this moisturizer not only moisturizes your skin but also helps maintain optimal moisture balance. The gel texture provides a refreshing “moisture drink” for the complexion, without causing congestion. After using this product, your skin will be left smooth, soft and comfortable.

What’s my verdict on this product? Do I love it or hate it?

If this product was ever discontinued, then I think I would hide under a rock for the rest of my life (okay I wouldn’t but you catch my drift here…). This has to be one of the best moisturizers I have ever tried in my life. It’s so hard to find the perfect one for my combination oily skin, but this is it. Ever since I began using this 2.5 years ago, I haven’t switched to any other moisturizers (I also use this as part of my 3-step skincare regiment, more on that soon). Since it’s a gel-like formula, it’s perfect for anyone with combination oily/oily skin. It feels comfortable on your skin without leaving any sort of dry patches or greasy spots at all. The formula absorbs perfectly leaving my skin smooth and soft to touch. The elasticity of my skin has also improved ‘dramatically’ since I first started using this product. There really is no negative aspects of this product that I have found and now I know why this product is a cult favourite and is so often raved about by everyone! At $32(CDN), you get the best moisturizer for combination oily/oily skin. This will dramatically change your skin’s texture for the better! I cannot imagine my life without this product at all. You can purchase this at any Clinique counters or online!

Happy Shopping Dolls! x

Pros:

  • Lightweight, oil-free
  • Perfect for combination oily/oily skin
  • Leaves skin soft, smooth, comfortable
  • Dramatically changes your skin’s texture
  • Gel-like formula that hydrates skin

Cons:

  • None!

Rating: 10/10 (This is a holy grail item for me! This is a must try for anyone with oily/combination oily skin. Trust me, you will see your skin ‘dramatically’ change for the better after a weeks use!)

Review: Clinique Clarifying Lotion 3 (Combination Oily Toner)

IMG_0990

I’ll admit, I am a self-proclaimed skin care junkie. I religiously use the Clinique 3 step system and have done so for the past couple years. Before I review the whole 3-step system, I wanted to review the toner because this can be incorporated into any skin care routine. Clinique’s clarifying lotion in #3 is a toner for combination oily skin. Clinique has 4 different versions of this toner (1-4, depending on your skin type). This particular toner is gentle, oil free “exfoliating lotion” for combination and oily skin. What it’s supposed to do is make your skin smoother and clean out your pores. Literally, the first time I used it…there was so much gunk that came out of my skin (gross I know). According to Clinique, this formula whisks away pore-clogging oil and flakes to reveal a clearer complexion by controlling excess oil to minimize breakouts and keep skin feeling clean. I also found that it kind of helps with making dark spots appear lighter as well. I absolutely love this toner. I’ve used a few toners here and there, but nothing that I stuck to. This one was a game changer for me. My skin dramatically improved after 4 days of use and I have not looked back once. It didn’t dry out my skin, which is what most toners tend to do (but this also probably has a little bit to do with the cleanser I use, more about that soon!). The one thing that was evident was that my breakouts cleared quickly, initially. At $16/$27(CDN, depending on the size), this is inexpensive and totally worth all the money. This works like magic. It has changed my skin so much that I can’t even imagine my life without this. I use it twice a day after I was my face with cleanser. I take a cotton round and apply all over my face and neck. I find that it creates a perfect canvas to apply my moisturizer and it actually absorbs a lot better onto my skin! The only downside is that it smells a bit toner-like but it’s seriously a minor glitch compared to the amazing things it does for your skin! You can purchase this at any Clinique counter, Sephora, or online!

Happy Shopping Dolls! x

Pros:

  • Oil Free
  • Improves skin’s texture
  • Helps clear breakouts
  • For combination/oily skin
  • Helps control oil
  • Cleans out clogged pores
  • Doesn’t dry out your skin
  • Helps create a clearer complexion

Cons:

  • The smell (but again not a huge issue for me)

Rating: 10/10 (This has dramatically changed my skin’s texture and I can’t imagine my life without it. This is a must have for any skin care junkie, who’s looking for a toner!)
