First Impressions: Glossier

fullsizeoutput_f99

OKAY. I’ve been waiting a LONG time to get my hands on anything by Glossier and the day has finally come! After months and months of contemplating whether or not to order online, I did it.

I first heard about Glossier from a little blurb on Allure about their Milk Jelly Cleanser. It won an award and I was intrigued about this brand. More research led me to find out that Glossier is the makeup brand by the infamous beauty/lifestyle blog ‘Into The Gloss’ and….drum roll….the founder of the both the blog and Glossier is none other than Emily Weiss. I’m sure you’re like who is that? UHM. Remember The Hills on MTV? Remember when Lauren and Whitney were interns at Teen Vogue? Remember Intern Emily? The one that got to go to THE dinner? THIS IS THE SAME EMILY (mindblown). I’m not lying, I pretty much sat and stared at my laptop for what seemed like a whole day. Now that that’s out of the way, What is Glossier, you ask?

Glossier is a skincare/makeup brand that has only one focus in mind: Skin first, Makeup second. I’ve realized that the older I’m getting, the more I’m realizing that the focus shouldn’t be on having airbrushed makeup but rather healthy skin! That was one of the main reasons why I gravitated towards trying products out from this brand. Of course, I live in Canada and despite what everyone believes…not all brands are easily accessible. Glossier at one point did have a pop-up shop in Toronto, but alas I was not able to make it. So, when I saw that they shipped to Canada (minus Quebec, sorry), I was ecstatic!

fullsizeoutput_f90

The Online Order Process: Glossier’s website is one of the easiest websites I’ve ever used. I love the fact that there aren’t an overwhelming amount of products or choices, which is why Glossier as a brand works well. Placing the online order was simple and sweet. Another thing I love is that the prices are stated in CAD, which is amazing because who wants to sit and convert the dollar? After inputing your credit card info, you were asked to pick a sample to put in your package (woohoo). And then, voila! You’re done. See? So simple. Once your package has been shipped, you’ll receive an email.

fullsizeoutput_f92

The Shipping Process: This process was probably the most surprising for me. When I saw that if you spend $40 CAD, then you qualify for free shipping…I was ecstatic! There was a down side though. Free shipping means it will take 7-10 business days to ship to your destination, which initially was kind of a bummer. After I got an email updating me that the products had been shipped, I decided to go about my life because the expected arrival date for my items was exactly in 10 business days. SO WHEN THE PACKAGE ARRIVED A WHOPPING 5 DAYS LATER I WAS JUMPING WITH JOY! Honestly, it was a surprise because this was pretty quick! Again, super simple.

fullsizeoutput_f93

The Package: This is probably the most instagrammable package I have ever received from any makeup/skincare brand! As you can see, it came in a cardboard box which was sealed with a Glossier embosses tape.  All the products were neatly tucked inside the infamous Glossier pink pouch. And it came with a sheet of stickers, which was super cool! Each of the products came in their own packaging. It was sleek, to the point and wasn’t busy looking. It was simple and sweet, which is exactly what this brand preaches.

The Products:

  1. Super Glow Serum ($35): I was on the hunt for a vitamin C+magnesium serum!
  2. Balm Dotcom in Mint ($15): I love me some lip balm! They had a selection of a few tinted and clear, I went with the clear in the Mint flavour.
  3. Boy Brow in Brown ($20): Again, this is a cult favourite so I had to give it a try!
  4. Cloud Paint Duo in Puff and Storm ($36): The whole concept of applying blush with your fingers seems super cool. Storm is one of their newest shades, so that was a plus point!
  5. Generation G Sheer Matte Lipstick in Crush ($20): I added this on a whim and I am definitely in love!

fullsizeoutput_f9a

First Impressions: As soon as I finished taking pictures of all the products and packaging, I began to swipe the Generation G sheer matte lipstick in crush on my lips. I didn’t know how I’d feel about a “sheer-matte” lipstick…because I didn’t understand what a sheer matte was. Upon first swipe, I fell in love and I can’t wait to order some of the other shades. All the products from the Cloud Paints to the serum were phenomenal upon first use. I was not disappointed at all. If you want more in-depth reviews, let me know!

fullsizeoutput_f98

Overall Impressions of Glossier: Can I be a Glossier girl? Like seriously? Honestly, I have never been so impressed by a brand in my life. I’m usually not into the whole au natural look, but this brand is changing it for me. I won’t lie, the prices are a little steep, BUT I do believe it’s worth it. I think the more I’ll use the products, the more I’ll see. But as of now, I do like everything I’ve ordered. I am super impressed by this brand! I love how fuss free these products are!

fullsizeoutput_f9b

Will I Order Again? YES. YES. YES. I can’t wait to try more of their makeup and skincare products!

Review: Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick in Spanked, S1ngle & Candy Venom

fullsizeoutput_9d7

Okay, I know if you read this blog on the reg…then you’re already aware that Fenty Beauty has very quickly become my favourite beauty brand of all time. Every product I try, I am instantly impressed. From their face primer to their countour sticks and everything in between, RiRi knows whats good.

fullsizeoutput_9d8.jpeg

What is it: A super slim matte lipstick that is super comfortable on the lips, long wearing, super pigmented and super weightless. I picked up the shades Spanked, S1ngle & Candy Venom. Candy Venom is a bright magenta pink (SO gorg). Spanked is a nude dusty rose colour and S1ngle is descried as a blushing nude. Can I also say, the names of these lipsticks are too good!

fullsizeoutput_9da.jpeg

The Good: Y’all my lips have never been so blessed (LOL). Seriously, I don’t think I’ve felt this way about a lipstick release in a LONG time. The formula of these lipsticks are incredible. When you apply it, it almost feels as though the lipstick is hugging your lips. It’s soft and not heavy at all. In fact, there have been times when I’ve had any of these 3 shades on and I’ve forgotten I’m wearing lipstick. The colour pay off is fantastic. One swipe and you get the colour without any fuss. For a matte lipstick, these are SUPER creamy. It’s really moisturizing and I’m all about this. The packaging is also one of my favourites, especially for travel. It’s super skinny and will fit literally anywhere without feeling bulky. Spanked is perfect for a night out with the girls or date night. S1ngle is great for work or on those days you just want something on your lips without any hassle. Candy Venom is perfect for nights out when you want to make your presence known without trying hard! These products are pretty long wearing on the lips. I’ll be honest, I don’t think it compares to Stunna Lip paint BUT these do stay on your lips for a while. You will need to reapply it but not more than maybe once (that’s all I needed to get through a whole day at work). I also want to point out the design of the lipstick itself. It’s designed to be easy to apply on your lips without needing to use a lip liner. How you ask?  Apply normally to the bottom lip and then turn the lipstick with the short end up to apply to your upper lip. Trust me it works. Lastly, the price of these lipsticks are great. $23 (CDN) is a steal for beauty brand that’s doing incredibly well!

The Bad: N-O-T-H-I-N-G!

Overall Rating: 10/10 (I can’t WAIT to grab more shades! You can pick yours up at your local Sephora)

Review: Anastasia Beverly Hills Matte Lipstick in Buff & Rosewood

fullsizeoutput_990 (Buff on the left & Rosewood on the right)
When I heard that Anastasia Beverly Hills was going to launch a line of matte lipsticks (which aren’t liquid), I was beyond excited. If you know me, you already know that ABH’s liquid lipsticks are probably one of my favourite liquid lippies of all time! The bar was definitely set SUPER high for these lipsticks and I can’t wait to tell you if these exceeded my expectations or not!
What is it: As mentioned before, these are a line of matte lipstick made for people who aren’t into liquid lipstick but want the same long-lasting power as them. It’s super matte, full-pigmented and long-lasting on your lips. They retail for $23 (CDN) at Sephora (that’s where I got mine). I chose the shades Rosewood and Buff. Rosewood is described as a muted cherrywood and Buff is described as a nude salmon pink.
fullsizeoutput_991 (Buff on the top & Rosewood on the bottom)
The Good: So you’re probably thinking, if these lipsticks exceeded my expectations? YES. These lipsticks are fantastic. Specifically, Buff has become my go to nude shade for work. In fact, I’ve had numerous people ask me what I’m wearing on my lips whenever I have either of these two shades on! Buff is also great for days you don’t want to wear makeup but want something on your lips to add a little bit of glam in your life. Rosewood is equally gorgeous too! The formula of these lipsticks are INCREDIBLE. It’s pretty comfortable for a matte lipstick. It doesn’t dry out your lips at all. In fact, it feels like the lipstick is hugging your lips in the most gorgeous way (LOL yes I just wrote that). It’s smooth on application, which is not a surprise for ABH at all. Now these aren’t the most long-lasting lipsticks out there…especially when you compare them to the liquid lipstick line from ABH…BUT because the formula is so great, it’s not a huge downfall (for me). In a 12 hour period, I reapplied the lipstick twice, which isn’t TOO bad. The pigmentation of these lipsticks are wonderful. All the swatch pictures you’re seeing on here are only one swipe of the lipstick! The packaging is super simple and classic, which is cute! I love that ABH let the formula of the lipsticks do the talking and didn’t really make the packaging extra (lol). The price is also pretty decent. You really are getting your money’s worth with these babies. I can’t wait to pick up more shades from this line!

The Bad: NOTHING!

Review: Fenty Beauty by Rihanna’s Stunna Lip Paint in Uncensored

fullsizeoutput_8be

Y’all, I cannot even. This is my THIRD Fenty Beauty product review and I can’t even explain to you how much I’m falling in love. Fenty Beauty might be the first brand in a long time that’s won me over completely. With every new product I try, I fall in love even more.

IMG_4280

What is it: When Riri says she’s going to give you a universal red lipstick which works with every skin tone, she seriously delivers! This baby is a bright red liquid lipstick that flatters every single skin tone. No kidding at all. It’s weightless and long wearing with a soft matte finish. I’m really glad that Rihanna decided to release this shade first from her Stunna lip paint line…because it truly is a stunner (okay, that was even too cheesy for me to say I must admit). But seriously, the packaging is very similar to Christian Louboutin’s nail polish bottles and I love every single thing about it.

IMG_4281

The Good: Oh my goodness gracious. CAN WE TAKE A MOMENT. I bought this without swatching the shade because I figured if Rihanna is telling me that this shade will work for me, then it completely will (also, let’s not forget she was the OG ambassador for Rubywoo, which is MAC’s version of the universal red). The moment I tried it on, I was mesmerized…not by the colour but by how smoothly the applicator glided on my lips. Not to mention how opaque the colour was on one swipe. In fact, this picture here (PS why aren’t you following me on IG yet?) is prime example of what one swatch of Rihanna’s stunna lip paint looks like after I’ve eaten, drank and had it on for probably around 4-5 hours. The formula is exactly like lip paint. It’s weightless gliding on and when it’s on your lips, which is always a huge plus point with liquid lipsticks. Another thing I noticed was how it didn’t dry my lips out at all. When applied, the shade did take a minute to dry on my lips but that’s expected with all liquid lipsticks! As I mentioned, you only really need one swipe of this product to get its true colour. The bright red shade is gorgeous and great for this holiday season! The applicator is an interesting design and it definitely works! I’m looking forward to Riri bringing out more shades to this line!

IMG_4282

The Bad: There wasn’t anything majorly wrong with this product…but I will let you know: With all liquid lipsticks, these products can’t be applied super quickly. In fact, the application process requires a teeny bit of time but by no means does it overshadow the amazingness of this product!

Overall Rating: 10/10 (pick it up at Sephora or Fentybeauty.com for $30 CDN)

Review: NYX Lip Lingerie in Embellishment (02), Ruffle Trim (04), & Exotic (12)

fullsizeoutput_606 (From Top to Bottom: Exotic, Embellishment, Ruffle Trim)

NYX is slowly starting to become my go-to brand for my everyday makeup looks. Not only is the brand ridiculously affordable, it also offers a diverse range of products, colours and finishes (which is a plus point for every makeup junkie). When I went into the store and swatched some of the colours from the NYX Lip Lingerie line I was stunned at the quality of product for its price! To me, this range of lippies are all nude shades that can suit any and every skintone (woohoo!).

What is it: NYX’s Lip Lingerie line are a range of matte liquid lipsticks that have incredible colour pay off while moisturizing your lips. It’s long-lasting and the shades range from super light nudes to super dark nudes. I picked up three shades called Exotic, Embellishment and Ruffle Trim. Although, I wanted to pick up more…I realized that these three shades were super unique compared to what I had already owned. Exotic is a pretty flesh-tone pink nude. Embellishment is a purpley mauve and Ruffle Trim is a light dusty rose (so pretty). The packaging is cute and pretty average as well as the applicator is a flatter blush.

(From Top to Bottom: Ruffle Trip, Embellishment, Exotic)

The Good: OH. EM. G. I am in love. And I know if you’re an avid reader of this blog (thank you!), you know that liquid lipsticks are literally my domain. I’ve tried most of them out there and every time I’m either extremely impressed or extremely disappointed. And this particular range extremely impressed me. These shades are probably my most used liquid lipsticks to right now. This is mainly because not only can you rock these during your dolled up days but you can also rock these on its own on a no makeup day and still look great while remaining sublte! The formula of these liquid lippies are amazing. It feels creamy/moussey when you first apply but it dries super quick to a matte finish. It’s moisturizing and doesn’t leave your lips looking flakey at all. The colour pay off is incredible. You can wear these alone or pair them with other lipsticks to create unique to you shades (bonus!). It’s not greasy despite being creamy and I love how nice it looked on my lips. The longevity of this product is good. During a full work day, I had to reapply it only once…which is not bad at all! The highlight of this product is its incredibly affordable price. At $9(CDN), you are getting MORE than your money’s worth and I’m totally happy with that!

The Bad: Nothing. Nothing at all.

Review: Chanel Rouge Double Intensité Ultra Wear Lip Colour In Soft Rose (48)

fullsizeoutput_388

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, then you already know my obsession with Chanel’s beauty products. Even though it’s super expensive (goodbye early retirement), Chanel’s beauty line is probably one of the nicest luxury beauty lines out there. When I heard that they were releasing a lip duo, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it!

fullsizeoutput_389

What is it: This long-wearing doubled ended lip product has a liquid lipstick on one end and a lip gloss on the other. They can be used individually or together, depending on what lip look you are going for. The shade I picked up is called Soft Rose, which is a dusty rose/mauve with a hint of shimmer. It’s a satin finish when worn alone. The packaging is really pretty. The black pot holds the gloss and the coloured part holds the liquid lipstick (duh lolz). The applicator’s base is gold. The liquid lip applicator is your typical liquid lipstick applicator and the gloss applicator is a brush (which I love!).

fullsizeoutput_38b

The Good: UHM. When Chanel says they’re giving you a long wearing lipstick/gloss duo, they definitely mean it times a million. My lip look did not budge or smudge or do anything other than stay on perfectly well. I tried using the liquid lipstick alone and even on its own, the lipstick did not fade at all. I also wore the gloss on its own and the same thing. NOTHING MOVED. I loved how easy it was to wear and can we take a moment and appreciate the smell of this product? I’m assuming if Chanel ever decided to sell chocolates, this is what it would smell like. The opacity of the liquid lipstick was really good. You can build up the intensity or you can wear it as a stain alone. The lip gloss is not sticky and just perfect. The lip shades look great on its own or with the gloss. Like I mentioned, this lip product stayed on for a lot longer than I thought and because I was super curious to see if it would last all night long…I ended up going to bed with this product on and there was no transfer on my bedding or pillow. Also, did I mention this DOES NOT MOVE OR BUDGE? I had to use warm water and makeup remover to remove it!

The Bad: I will say that the price point might be the biggest drawback. If you’re looking to invest in a GOOD lip product, then this is definitely it. You truly are going to get your money’s worth with this one. Remember, you’re getting a liquid lipstick and a gloss in one! So totes worth it!

Where you can get it: I picked up mine from the Chanel counter at The Hudson’s Bay (hello points!) for $45 (CDN).

Review: Huda Beauty’s Liquid Matte Lipstick

Hi Dolls! If you haven’t read my last post, then you can do so by clicking right here! Also, make sure to follow me on all my socials by simply searching ‘DaffDiaries’ (or you can click on the links on the right hand side of this page).

15491560_10154728561563503_551547247_o

Okay, y’all been waiting for this one I know. I FINALLY got my hands on these liquid matte lipsticks by Huda Beauty! If you don’t know who she is or her brand, then you can just google it and find out how much of a mogul she has become (seriously that girl has built an epic brand…slay!). These matte liquid lipsticks were one of the products launched and I must say, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on these.

First Impressions

15555444_10154728561718503_1898257358_o

Can we please talk about how pretty the boxes are? Unlike other liquid lipsticks, these come in a slide out box (hope that makes sense). As you can see, the shade of the lipstick is labelled on the side with the colour name. On top of the box, you see lips with that exact lip shade on; biting on to the lipstick (talk about a beautiful illusion…so cool).  Not only that, the box has all her social media accounts listed (I mean she did become famous because of that). The lipstick bottle is frosted and has the logo on it. The brush applicator is just like any other liquid lipstick applicator.

Rating of packaging: 10/10

Product Formula

15491613_10154728561678503_906739578_o

I’ve tried many liquid lipsticks and let me tell you how impressed I am by these babies. Seriously, the consistency of these liquid lippies aren’t super thick yet when you apply them to your lips, it’s super pigmented. You do have to wait about 30-45 seconds for it to dry on your lips, which is not an issue because once it’s dry, there’s literally no transfer of colour anywhere. I wore each of the shades I’m going to mention for more than a few hours and believe me, I purposely did everything possible to see if these lipsticks would budge. I was astonished. Nothing came off. Nothing faded. It literally felt like magic on my lips. I ate an entire buffet meal, drank tons of coffee and bit my lip a few times…and NOTHING CAME OFF!!!!!! I love the vanilla-ish scent (very reminiscent of MAC) but that’s just an added bonus. So the main question you’re probably dying to ask me as you read this is: Did it dry out your lips? No BUT I did layer it on lip balm…so I’m not sure if that made a difference. It felt really comfortable on my lips and I didn’t need to reapply lip balm or even the lipstick.

Rating of formula: 10/1o

Product Application

Applying it was super easy. It’s exactly like how you would apply any other liquid lipstick. I do have one tip though, I tend to quickly apply my lipsticks (no matter the product) and with this one I felt like I needed to take an extra minute or two to make sure I filled my lips properly (mind you, I didn’t use a lip liner). I will say this though, you do not need more than ONE coat of this on your lips to get the true lipstick colour. One issue I encountered was the fact that after I applied this for the FIRST time, I didn’t wait the 30-45 seconds and found traces of the lipstick on my teeth (ew, no one likes that…I do have a hack for this…which I’ll share soon).

Rating: 9/10

Swatches

I made this nifty video to show you the swatches but I also included the pics here. I’m going to breakdown each shade and give a rating based on the pigmentation only. Also, can I point out the fact that these liquid lipsticks (er rather every Huda Beauty product out there) have such adorable names! Also, as the name suggests, all of these liquid lipsticks are matte. Even though when you swatch them on your lips, it looks a bit satiny…it dries to a matte finish.

Heartbreaker: It’s a bright red. I absolutely love this one the most. Online, it looked like your typical red but it’s a bright red and this looks really nice on my skin tone.             Rating: 10/10

Bombshell: This is your typical pinkish nude. I’d say this one is the same shade of my lips but a tad bit lighter, which makes this perfect for the workplace. With this particular one, I found that it faded a TINY bit after the 10 hour mark. Rating: 9.5/10

Famous: This one’s a dark plummy red. I’d say if you’re looking for the perfect dark pout, then this is it. With one swipe, I got the perfect dark pout I’ve always wanted.            Rating: 10/10

Trophy Wife: It’s a perfect dusty rosey mauve (woah loads of descriptions). I just love everything about this shade and I find that this looks amazing on any skin tone.       Rating: 10/10

Cheerleader: I think the best way to describe this as a blood-red. It’s beautiful and just your gorgeous everyday red! Rating: 10/10

15515668_10154728561568503_1395336089_o(Top to Bottom: Bombhshell, Trophy Wife, Cheerleader, Famous, Heartbreaker)

Price, Availability & Accessibility

These are only available online on Sephora or her own website for a cool $26 a pop (CDN). These are easily accessible through Sephora (I had them 4 days after I ordered them). I think the price is absolutely worth it for these shades. I can’t wait to order more in the future.

Final Verdict

15556274_10154728561578503_1789844956_o

LOVE LOVE LOVE (I mean if you’ve made it this far in my review, then you already know I love these). If you’re looking for a gift for your friends or even yourself, then these are it! Also, this is a great addition to any lipstick lovers lipstick closet!

Overall rating: 10/10
