Review: Stila Cosmetics Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow in Kitten Karma and Rose Gold Retro

fullsizeoutput_9d3

I honestly believe that whenever you’re making an entrance, glitter bombs should go off (I can dream right?). Anyways, enough about my glitter dreams…this post is all about Stila Cosmetics’ Glitter & Glow liquid shadows. Read on to find out!

IMG_5482

What is it: The best way to describe this is this: This is liquid glitter in a bottle. I picked up the shades Kitten Karma and Rose Gold Retro. Kitten Karma is filled with champagne, copper and silver glitter. Rose Gold Retro is a mixture between rose gold (duh!) and silver glitter specks. These babies are meant to sparkle your eyelids without being troublesome. Stila describes it as a perfect blend of pearl and glitter to leach your lids with incredible luster and shimmer. It doesn’t promise NO fallout, but it does say that you can expect minimal fallout.

fullsizeoutput_9d5

The Good: My glitter dreams are coming true. If you want the PERFECT halo eye, this is THE only product for you. Kitten Karma is officially my favourite shade of glitter (yes I know I just called glitter a shade). I have never seen such a perfect champagne colour in my life! Rose Gold Retro is beautiful too. In fact, even though I love Kitten Karma, I’ve used Rose Gold Retro more and I’m incredibly impressed. The formula of these are fantastic. I find that with a lot of glitter eyeshadows tend to be chunky…but not these! The formula is so smooth! It’s super lightweight on your eyes, there isn’t a grainy texture. When I apply it, it glides on. It doesn’t dry instantly BUT when it does, blending other shadows around it is a breeze! Nothing moves! I’ll get into the fallout in the next part of this post (keep reading). These retail for $31 CDN and I am not going to lie, I can’t wait to pick up some of the more bold and bright colours! These eyeshadows are SO pigmented and no matter how much you build on the colour, it doesn’t feel heavy nor chunky! The applicator is super soft and very easy to maneuver.

The bad: Okay, this is not the worst thing but this product does have fallout. It’s not a lot compared to others but there is a little bit. I find that the best way to avoid any fallout from these is to apply an eye mask while you do your eyes (or you can tape half of a cotton round). But other than that, nothing was wrong with these. In fact, this doesn’t affect my overall rating of these products!

The swatches are below in normal light, flash and direct daylight. The top shade is Rose Gold Retro & the bottom is Kitten Karma. Scroll down below to see my overall rating!

Review: Anastasia Beverly Hills Matte Lipstick in Buff & Rosewood

fullsizeoutput_990 (Buff on the left & Rosewood on the right)
When I heard that Anastasia Beverly Hills was going to launch a line of matte lipsticks (which aren’t liquid), I was beyond excited. If you know me, you already know that ABH’s liquid lipsticks are probably one of my favourite liquid lippies of all time! The bar was definitely set SUPER high for these lipsticks and I can’t wait to tell you if these exceeded my expectations or not!
What is it: As mentioned before, these are a line of matte lipstick made for people who aren’t into liquid lipstick but want the same long-lasting power as them. It’s super matte, full-pigmented and long-lasting on your lips. They retail for $23 (CDN) at Sephora (that’s where I got mine). I chose the shades Rosewood and Buff. Rosewood is described as a muted cherrywood and Buff is described as a nude salmon pink.
fullsizeoutput_991 (Buff on the top & Rosewood on the bottom)
The Good: So you’re probably thinking, if these lipsticks exceeded my expectations? YES. These lipsticks are fantastic. Specifically, Buff has become my go to nude shade for work. In fact, I’ve had numerous people ask me what I’m wearing on my lips whenever I have either of these two shades on! Buff is also great for days you don’t want to wear makeup but want something on your lips to add a little bit of glam in your life. Rosewood is equally gorgeous too! The formula of these lipsticks are INCREDIBLE. It’s pretty comfortable for a matte lipstick. It doesn’t dry out your lips at all. In fact, it feels like the lipstick is hugging your lips in the most gorgeous way (LOL yes I just wrote that). It’s smooth on application, which is not a surprise for ABH at all. Now these aren’t the most long-lasting lipsticks out there…especially when you compare them to the liquid lipstick line from ABH…BUT because the formula is so great, it’s not a huge downfall (for me). In a 12 hour period, I reapplied the lipstick twice, which isn’t TOO bad. The pigmentation of these lipsticks are wonderful. All the swatch pictures you’re seeing on here are only one swipe of the lipstick! The packaging is super simple and classic, which is cute! I love that ABH let the formula of the lipsticks do the talking and didn’t really make the packaging extra (lol). The price is also pretty decent. You really are getting your money’s worth with these babies. I can’t wait to pick up more shades from this line!

The Bad: NOTHING!

Review: Tarte Cosmetics’ Tight & Bright Clay Multi-Mask

fullsizeoutput_8ed

When I saw that Tarte was adding a face mask to their line, I didn’t know exactly what to expect but I was definitely excited. I’m still a newbie when it comes to face masks because it is so time-consuming. But what I learned with this particular face mask duo was that anything that is time-consuming for your face will have results…and I’m all for it.

IMG_4479

What is it: Tarte’s Tight & Bright clay mask comes with two clay masks (score!). It’s got a purple/lavender side and a gold side in the pot. I won’t lie it’s really pretty to look at! The lavender mask is a detoxifying and purifying mask that is targeted towards your T-zone to combat excess oil and tighten pores (hence the ‘Tight’ part of its name). It’s the detoxifying part of this multi-mask duo. The gold side is a firming gel mask targeted towards any dry parts of your face as well as any delicate parts (like under your eyes) that need an instant boost of brightness! Both these masks have Amazonian clay in them. The gold gel has hyaluronic acid that helps restore your skin’s natural moisture balance for a supple, soft, and energized look! You can use these two on its own or together to get the perfect at-home facial. You need to leave this mask on for 10-20 min for best results.

fullsizeoutput_8ee

The Good: My favourite part of this duo is the fact that I can use one product to target all my skin concerns all at once. This alone should be the reason why everyone should own this, if not at least try it out once. I promise, you will not be disappointed. I used them together and by themselves…but I won’t lie…I find that they work best when you use them together. I put the gold gel on my cheeks and under eye. I put the lavender on my T-zone and chin. The formula of both these masks are incredible. The gold gel is so smooth and easy to apply on your skin. It also feels really nice. The lavender mask has microbeads in them, which I find is a great way to exfoliate dead skin when I rinse it off. When I use them together, I leave it on for about 15-18 minutes. Remember how I said anything time-consuming for your face is always going to get you results? Well, let me tell you the results of this mask were incredible. My face was soft to touch and it felt super hydrated, despite using a clay mask! The brightening part brightened and the tightening part tightened (LOL) and I can’t say I was disappointed at all! My face had this gorgeous glow and I can’t see myself not incorporating this into my skincare routine going forward. Also, the packaging is super cute! I love that it’s in a pot!

IMG_4477

The Bad: The only downside is the price. But look at it as an investment! Also, I wish it came with a spatula or brush to apply this mask.

Overall Rating: 9/10 (You can pick yours up at any Tarte retailer, I got mine from Sephora for $52 CDN)

My Skincare Routine

fullsizeoutput_694

Morning Skincare

  1. Clinique 3 Step: Cleanser, Toner & Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel in that order.
  2. Tarte’s Tarteguard: I’m like on my third bottle now and I can’t stress enough how important it is to use sunscreen for your face everyday…no matter the season!
  3. Origins’ Ginzing Eye Cream: Coffee for your under eyes. No joke.
  4. Dior Addict Lip Sugar Scrub: This is such an interesting lip balm. It’s got sugar bits that literally melt on your lips keeping them soft! Perfect base for using liquid lipsticks (which are my go to for the work week).
  5. If I have a pimple or some sort of breakout, I’ll use the Clean and Clear Advantage spot treatment.
  6. Clinque Pep Start: I love using this before I apply makeup or even on its own because it legit blurs all the pores on my face!

Night Time Skincare

  1. Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser: I swear by this cleanser at night because it really cleans out my skin without damaging or drying it out.
  2. Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel: I’ve been using this for years and I can’t seem to stop.
  3. Currently I’m alternating between Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Serum and Caudalie’s Vinoperfect Radiance Serum. Both are great, both do different things for my skin…so it really comes down to how I feel on the night of. If I want a radiance boost or my skin is super dull looking, then I’ll go with the radiance serum otherwise I’m always using the Estee Lauder.
  4. Estee Lauder Advanced Repair Eye Cream: This makes my under eye area feel super awesome the next morning!
  5. Clinique Moisture Surge Gel: If my skin is feeling extra dry or I’ve used like every makeup product I own on my face, then I’ll use this. It adds hydration to my skin instantly!
  6. One a week, I’ll use Laneige’s Water Sleeping Mask to add back any hydration I’ve lost during the week!
  7. Lush’s Honey Lip Scrub: Again, because I use liquid lipstick so much…I feel like I need to use a lip scrub once every 3 days.
  8. Dior’s Creme De Rose: I apply this to my lips right before I go to sleep!

Review: Bumble and Bumble’s BB. Thickening Hairspray

fullsizeoutput_617

What is it: When I came across this product, I wasn’t sure what to expect. A setting spray that adds volume to your hair instantly? Count me in! This hairspray, for all hair types, lifts and holds your hairstyle. According to its makers, it can be used for blow-drying, setting, protecting from heat, adding volume, controlling, and finishing any style! You can use it on its own or you can pair it up with different hair products.

How I use it: After I get out of the shower, I leave my hair in a towel for about 20 minutes…to dry off any excess water. Then I use spray this evenly throughout my hair (while damp) making sure I get it on my roots more because obviously that’s where I want my hair to lift (lol). Once I’ve done that, I use a round brush and blow dry my hair. Once I’m done, I lightly spray this to set everything.

The Good: OKAY. DO YOU WANT MANAGEABLE THICK HAIR? THEN THIS IS IT. Honestly, my hair gets thicker whenever I use this product. The volume I get with this product is insane! This is my go-to for whenever I need extra volume for big-ticket events in my life. This has NEVER failed me. I can literally feel my hair expanding (if that’s even a thing) when I’m blow drying it. I love that this mist is light and can be paired up with any other hair product. It doesn’t feel heavy and the fragrance isn’t over powering. You can pick this up at Sephora for $33 (CDN) and I guarantee you it’s worth it. Every single claim this makes is true. It’s not sticky and doesn’t make your hair crunchy. Your hair remains soft to touch. Seriously, I can’t imagine doing my hair without using this product.

The Bad: N-O-T-H-I-N-G.

Review: Lush Lip Scrub In Honey

fullsizeoutput_610

Whenever I walk into a Lush store, I’m overwhelmed with excitement! Although, I will be the first one to admit that I didn’t know much about Lush until a friend urged me to go and check out their soaps. Once I went inside, I was intrigued with everything these natural/handmade/organic products had to offer. This particular product had been on my list to try out and boy am I glad I did.

fullsizeoutput_60f

What is it: This is a handmade lip scrub. I picked up the Honey flavour because it smelled oh so yummy. This pot is filled with castor sugar crystals mixed in with honey, white chocolate (yes you read that right), vanilla and jojoba oil as well as tingly mint. It’s  meant to flake all the dead & dry skin off your lips while leaving them super soft and smooth.

How it works: This isn’t just your average lip scrub. Nope. Not at all. It’s edible. Seriously. I mean you can’t eat it in spoonfuls but you can def lick the excess off your lips (it says so on the bottle, I’m not making this up). This is probably because all the products used in this are natural. With a Q-tip (you can use your fingers too), I take a pea size amount and apply it to my lips. Depending on the severity of my lips (winter is brutal), I either use the Q tip or my lips to spread the sugar crystals around to “flake” off the dead skin. The best thing about this product is there’s no need to rinse…you just lick your lips off (LOL)….or you can apply lip balm after…whatever floats your boat.

fullsizeoutput_60e

The Good: I love the size of this product. You get so much in a tiny pot and you don’t even need to use a lot of the product. The texture of this product is pretty good. The sugar crystals don’t melt upon touch and stays in tact on your lips until you begin to “scrub”. It’s super gentle, which is a HUGE plus point especially for sensitive lips. It’s really easy to work with and there’s no fallout. Although the product is edible, I haven’t tried to eat it nor have I licked it despite it smelling oh so good! The scrub did what it said it would do, which is good!

The Bad: With everything being said…unfortunately, this wasn’t like a life changing product for my lips. It’s nice, don’t get me wrong, but I felt like it was pretty average. After I took off the lip scrub, my lips weren’t over the top moisturized and I definitely had to apply lip balm…but that was literally the only downside to it. Nonetheless, this isn’t a horrible product at all. The price of this is $10.95(CDN) and you can pick it up at any Lush store or online.
