Review: MAC Cosmetics’ Fashion Fanatic Eyeshadow Palette

fullsizeoutput_359

MAC is killing the makeup game with their releases lately. This summer, they released a MAC Girls line where they created limited edition eyeshadow palettes based on different personalities. I will be reviewing 3 of the 6 palettes and this one is the Fashion Fanatic palette for the fashion forward girl who loves bold and unique shades!

fullsizeoutput_35a

What’s in the palette:  Like all the palettes MAC has put out in this GIRLS line, this palette includes 8 eyeshadows in different finishes and one highlighter. This palette includes daring bold and unique shades! Must Have It is an orangey bronzey opalescent highlighter. Mad Mod & Outfitted are the shimmery glitter shade in this palette (which are OH SO GORG!). On the Hip Side, Wild Card, & Fashion Fanatic are the creamy mattes. Shop, Shop, Shop, Style & Influencer and Totally fierce are your satiny pearl shades. The package is super sleek and includes a mirror, which is one of my favourite things about any palette.

fullsizeoutput_366

The Good: OMG I love everything about this palette. The names, the shades and the packaging scream Daff Diaries (lolz). No really, this is probably my favourite MAC Girls Palette. I love how the shades, despite being bold and not from the same shade range, compliment one another. The formula of these shades are so silky smooth. The shadows and the highlighter glide on so beautifully. And when you foil some of the lighter shades, they look stunning on the lids! Style & Influence is probably my favourite shade from this palette. I love how pretty the lilac is! The shimmery shades are gorgeous too! Another thing I love about this palette is the outer packaging! It’s so chic! This palette can be used to create so many different looks using multiple shades.

The Bad:  As with all the MAC Girls palettes, there are some shades which require you to foil them to get the true colour payoff. This is not a horrible thing, it’s just time-consuming which can be an issue for some. To Foil: Spritz your shadow brush with Fix+ and then dip you brush into the lighter shades. You will get amazing colour payoff with that technique!

Where you can get it: Any MAC retailer or MAC store for $48 (CDN).

Review: MAC Cosmetics’ Prissy Princess Eyeshadow Palette

fullsizeoutput_360

Did you know MAC came out with a GIRLS line this summer and based 6 eyeshadow palettes on different personalities of women? Well fear not, that’s why you have me! I will be reviewing 3 of the 6 palettes and this one is the Prissy Princess palette filled with the prettiest fairy tale-esque shades!

fullsizeoutput_361

What’s in the palette: Like all the palettes MAC has put out in this GIRLS line, this palette includes 8 eyeshadows in different finishes and one highlighter. This palette is filled with neutral pinks, taupes, browns and greys. The colours are just so pretty!  She’s a Rainbow (what an adorable name) is a pearly rose gold opalescent highlighter. Too Good To Be True is the glittery shimmer shade in this palette (probably one of my favs in this palette). Prissy Princess, Colour Me Spoiled and Spoil Yourself are the creamy matte shades. Fabness, Sweet Tart, Eternal Optimist and Good Girl & U Know It are the satiny pearly shades. The package is super sleek and includes a mirror, which is one of my favourite things about any palette.

fullsizeoutput_363

The Good: I feel like this palette was made for me. I love the names, I love the shades…I love everything about this palette. The neutral shades are perfect for the day and you can definitely use a few of these shades for your nighttime look too! The highlighter is pretty. As you can see, this is practically your pretty…girl next door palette filled with shades you just can’t hate! The formula of these shades are so buttery smooth! They glide on to your lids without any fuss and when some of the shades are foiled, the colour pay off is so intense!

The Bad: I love the colours of the packaging BUT the name of the palette, even though it’s in huge block letters, isn’t supper prominent. I wish Prissy Princess was written in a hot pink colour but that’s the only downside (if I’m being extra critical). Again, if you’ve my review about the other palettes in this line, you already know that there are a few shades in the palette which don’t have the best colour payoff unless the shadows are foiled.

Where you can get it: Any MAC retailer or MAC store for $48 (CDN).

Rating: 8.5/10

Review: MAC Cosmetics’ Basic Bitch Eyeshadow Palette

fullsizeoutput_367

I bet you’re thinking…why did MAC just name a palette Basic Bitch? Don’t worry, I thought the same thing too. As a part of MAC’s Girls line, MAC released 6 limited edition “personality” eye shadow palettes. I will be reviewing 3 of the 6 palettes and this is the most talked about one….the Basic Bitch palette.

fullsizeoutput_356

What’s in the palette: This palette is filled with 8 eye shadows, which range from shimmers to mattes, and a highlighter. This palette is filled with greys, plums and purples…perfect for a smoky eye! The highlighter in Love this bitch (lolz) is a frosted baby pink highlighter. Sly Girl & Tattle-Tale (probably two of my favourite shimmer shades by MAC) are micro-glitter shimmering shades. Hell in Heels & Gameplayer are your creamy mattes. Me, Me, Me, Ms. Personality, Big White Lie and Text Me Later are satin shades. The packaging is pretty sleek and includes a mirror.

fullsizeoutput_355

The Good: Even past the controversy, I love everything about this palette. Majority of the shades are gorgeous on my lids and the names are super fun! I’m assuming MAC believes that the average basic bitch (I feel so strange writing the B word on my very G rated blog, but you know that’s life) is one that wants to have a smoky eye all the time. The formula of these shadows and the one highlighter are super-duper silky smooth. It wasn’t powdery when I swatched them and I loved how they just glided on without any fuss. The opacity is pretty decent, although some shades require you to pack on the shadow, majority of the shades are pretty opaque.

The Bad: So you can probably tell by the swatches that the colour pay off isn’t the best for some of the shades in this palette. BUT I will say the shades which didn’t have full opacity on first swatch, were super opaque when I spritzed my shadow brush with Fix+ to foil the shadows. They looked incredibly gorgeous. But aside from that, this palette is pretty awesome! I can see the name of this palette being an issue for a few and I wish the name wasn’t SO big on the palette.

Where you can get it: Any MAC retailer or MAC store for $48 (CDN).

Rating: 8.5/10

Review: MAC Cosmetics’ Next To Nothing Face Colour & Powder

DSC04290

If you’ve been following me on Instagram, then you already know that I’ve been using this particular foundation (it’s not marketed as a foundation…but I’m going to call it foundation lol) for the past couple weeks. You know what this means? I’ve got a new review for you, just like old times!

What is it?

It’s an ultra glowy foundation created for a no-makeup makeup look. These babies are meant to give you a radiant glow while perfecting your skin. They include special micro-light thingamajigs, which I’m sure if you go on their website you can read about…I’m here to tell you my experience with using these two products.

The liquid version of this “Next-to-nothing” face colour line is absolutely flawless. I love the way it feels on my skin. It’s balmy and smooth. I layered it with a mattifying primer and I still got a gorgeous dewey look. I’ve used these alone and I’ve paired it with other products to see what the effect would be…and it was the same: perfect. It looks like you have a filter on your face without looking caked at all. It didn’t crease nor did it become oily throughout the day. I have combination oily skin, so I was really worried about that but it was flawless (if you want to head to my Instagram, you can see the results yourself. I used NO editing tools or filters on that picture).

The powder version of it is great too! I can definitely see myself using this throughout the summer time because neither of the two (alone or combined together) felt heavy on my face. It’s lightweight and very easy to blend. In fact, it felt like it gelled with my skin! MAC recommends that you use these with synthetic brushes and/or sponges and that’s exactly what I did and the results were amazing! My face was radiant and it works really well with other makeup too (i.e. blush or contour).

If you’re looking for a no-makeup look face product…these are it. These picture well, they look gorgeous in person, they layer really well with other products and it makes you look like you have no make up on! I will mention that the shade range is limited. I didn’t swatch these here because ultimately with foundation it comes down to what your skin can gel with. And, I can definitely say: this is a product that will work with different skin types! It smells exactly like the Fix+. But overall, I really loved the way it looked on my skin! Also, the pressed powders are definitely more pigmented than the liquid form of this product, but both are buildable (which is perfect for the summer time).

Price:

  • Liquid: $38 (CDN)
  • Powder: $32 (CDN)

Pros:

  • Lightweight, buildable, looks pretty on skin!
  • Leaves you with the perfect radiant glow!
  • Very natural looking, doesn’t crease or cake

Cons:

  • The smell can be problematic for some
  • Not a lot of shades in the range, which is a surprise for MAC

Overall Rating: 9/10

How To Get The Perfect Smoky Eye!

4750c30da960a7baf5cb5f9e6a727119

I love this classic look that Eva Longoria is rocking here. The smoky eye paired with a nude lip does wonders for her. This look is so trendy and classic that it will never go out of style. Once you’ve mastered the method, you can play around with different colours. Below you will find a series of steps to achieve this look along with some of my favourite products.

Happy recreating this make up look Dolls! x

The Smoky Eyes

  1. Prime eyes with your favourite eye primer. (I cannot live without Urban Decay’s 24/7 primer potion).
  2. Apply your favourite soft silver eye shadow all over your lids.
  3. Line upper lash line with a black liner. It doesn’t have to be perfect but make sure you apply generously. This one is my favourite for smokey eyes because it’s waterproof and comes with a smudge tip on the other end!
  4. Take a clean liner brush and start smudging the line you just created (in slow small circular motions). Once at the outer corner of the eye, make a backwards “C” into the crease line, stopping mid way on the lid.
  5. Take your favourite charcoal shadow (if you’re feeling bold go with a dark matte black), and with a crease brush apply to your outer corner of your eye (the curved part of the backwards C) stopping at the middle.
  6. Keep blending until harsh lines are gone.
  7. Take the same Black eyeliner and apply to the bottom lash line (including the water line).
  8. Take the same liner brush used before, and smudge out the bottom lash line so that the line is a lot softer; join with the top lash line you drew (the outer corner where it ends)
  9. Take a highlight colour (why not Shroom by MAC?) and apply to the brow bone.
  10. Take a clean crease brush and blend so that there are no harsh lines.
  11. Apply a volumizing mascara to finish the look (if you want you can apply false eye lashes); My favourite mascara for a smoky eye look is this one.
  12. Fill in eye brows as you would normally do.
  13. If there is fall out around the eye, take a tissue paper and wipe it off.

Face

  1. Apply your favourite foundation primer. This one is my fav!
  2. Apply a brightening under eye concealer and blend (why not the Maybelline under eye concealer?)
  3. Follow with your favourite foundation routine; use a concealer to cover any blemishes or inperfections.
  4. Apply mauvey pink blush on the apples of the cheek like Eva. My favourite one is Flush by Tarte. Tap lightly for a faded flush.

Lips

  1. For a natural nude look: use a lip stain that is the same as your lip colour only better. I love Exposed by Tarte because it is matte and has intense longevity.
  2. Apply a pinky nude gloss on top for a sheen. I love this one in either bare naked or bare pink (and it pairs perfectly with the Tarte Lip surgence!)

Finishing touches:

  1. Apply a setting powder first and then setting spray so nothing budges! I love the Urban Decay All nighter spray and Makeup forever’s HD setting powder.

Remember: You can always modify this make up look based on what works best for you. If you are still at a loss, you can invest in a smokey eye palette (what I did when I was first learning how to master this look). Urban Decay has the Naked Smoky Palette which is fantastic for beginners.

Review: MAC Cosmetics’ Fluidline in Waveline

10575302_10153954928443503_2890290945866574228_o

Let it be known: my world WILL be in shambles if all forms of eyeliners were extinct (as dramatic as that sounds, it’s the truth). Now you already know that black eyeliners are literally the only thing I wear (most of the time). So why would I venture outside of that colour you ask? Well…LOOK. AT. THAT. COLOUR!! Is it not the most beautiful navy blue you’ve ever seen? Clearly, this was a complete impulse purchase on my part.

What is it?

12419287_10153954928103503_1298857937263987907_o

MAC cosmetics’ Fluidline liner in Waveline is described as a navy blue gel liner that has low levels of gold pearl infused in there (I know sounds super fancy). As you can see, it comes in a very generous pot (like most of their gel liners). Upon application, it’s supposed to feel silky smooth that gives off a soft finished look. It’s foolproof (you know that’s perfect for someone like me), long-wearing and the most important aspect of all gel liners….it’s smudge-proof! With one stroke of your brush, you are supposed to get the most opaque colour on your lids.

How long did I use it for?

Since August 2015 + counting.

First Impressions and thoughts?

12440719_10153954928008503_8279045466574419148_o

As I mentioned before, the colour itself was predominantly the reason why I bought this. Once I dipped my angle brush into the pot to get some product on, I already knew that I was going to love this. It glided on smoothly on my lids and didn’t feel dry at all. So for me, that was already a huge plus point. The colour was also so opaque that I literally contemplated wearing this every day. It was easy to apply and it didn’t smudge!

My Verdict?

If you’re going to purchase any gel liner, I highly recommend that you try this one out. This particular shade is wearable and gorgeous (& this is coming from a black eyeliner enthusiast). Every single claim is true about this product. I love the size and generosity of this product. Also, I need to mention the fact that I’ve had this for months and the gel liner has not dried out at all (A HUGE BONUS). It’s pro-longwear and I found that it literally did not budge/smudge until I used makeup remover to remove it. It was silky smooth and it glided effortlessly on to my lids. The formula was not drying on my lids at all! Another thing I really like about this product is that without any primers/shadows under it, you still get a pretty opaque line, which is completely budge proof (the swatches are done with no primer/shadow on the lids).

Price & Where can you buy it?

$20 (CDN) at MAC Cosmetics stores & retailers

Would I repurchase it?

THOUSAND PERCENT (also, I’m definitely picking up some other shades in the line in the next few weeks!)

Pros:

  • Smudge, budge proof
  • Opaque colour
  • Glides perfectly on the lids
  • Doesn’t dry out
  • Feels silky+smooth on your lids

Cons:

  • Nothing, Nada, Zilch!

Overall Rating: 10/10 (I cannot find a single thing wrong with this gel liner! If you’re on the lookout for a navy blue liner, then this is it!)
