Review: Anastasia Beverly Hills Matte Lipstick in Buff & Rosewood

fullsizeoutput_990 (Buff on the left & Rosewood on the right)
When I heard that Anastasia Beverly Hills was going to launch a line of matte lipsticks (which aren’t liquid), I was beyond excited. If you know me, you already know that ABH’s liquid lipsticks are probably one of my favourite liquid lippies of all time! The bar was definitely set SUPER high for these lipsticks and I can’t wait to tell you if these exceeded my expectations or not!
What is it: As mentioned before, these are a line of matte lipstick made for people who aren’t into liquid lipstick but want the same long-lasting power as them. It’s super matte, full-pigmented and long-lasting on your lips. They retail for $23 (CDN) at Sephora (that’s where I got mine). I chose the shades Rosewood and Buff. Rosewood is described as a muted cherrywood and Buff is described as a nude salmon pink.
fullsizeoutput_991 (Buff on the top & Rosewood on the bottom)
The Good: So you’re probably thinking, if these lipsticks exceeded my expectations? YES. These lipsticks are fantastic. Specifically, Buff has become my go to nude shade for work. In fact, I’ve had numerous people ask me what I’m wearing on my lips whenever I have either of these two shades on! Buff is also great for days you don’t want to wear makeup but want something on your lips to add a little bit of glam in your life. Rosewood is equally gorgeous too! The formula of these lipsticks are INCREDIBLE. It’s pretty comfortable for a matte lipstick. It doesn’t dry out your lips at all. In fact, it feels like the lipstick is hugging your lips in the most gorgeous way (LOL yes I just wrote that). It’s smooth on application, which is not a surprise for ABH at all. Now these aren’t the most long-lasting lipsticks out there…especially when you compare them to the liquid lipstick line from ABH…BUT because the formula is so great, it’s not a huge downfall (for me). In a 12 hour period, I reapplied the lipstick twice, which isn’t TOO bad. The pigmentation of these lipsticks are wonderful. All the swatch pictures you’re seeing on here are only one swipe of the lipstick! The packaging is super simple and classic, which is cute! I love that ABH let the formula of the lipsticks do the talking and didn’t really make the packaging extra (lol). The price is also pretty decent. You really are getting your money’s worth with these babies. I can’t wait to pick up more shades from this line!

The Bad: NOTHING!

Review: Too Faced Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick in Suck it & Sell Out

fullsizeoutput_143

Liquid lipsticks are literally the IT thing right now and I’m completely loving it. My obsession with liquid lipsticks began when I reviewed this product and it hasn’t stopped. These particular ones in this blog post are from Too Faced’s Melted Matte line. I picked up the shade “Sell out” because I was so impressed by the sample size I got in this box and I picked up “Suck it” because I loved how gorgeous the shade swatched on my arms.

fullsizeoutput_144

Okay let this be clear: I absolutely LOVE this product. These liquid lipsticks have to be one of my favourite ones at the moment. I love how smooth the applicator glided on to my lips. It’s extremely pigmented and I found that one swatch of the shade gives you enough product for your lips. The staying power of these shades are incredible. I ate, I drank, I did it all and nothing budged until I used makeup remover to remove it. The formula of this product is amazing. My lips were moisturized despite this being matte and liquid. I found that it made my lips smoother and felt incredibly comfortable on my lips. Also, I must add that these lipsticks dried very quickly when applied and I didn’t find that it would bleed out of my lips (I hope that made sense lol). The look of these bottles are super cute to, FYI. And AND AND I love the names for these shades! It’s so in your face gorgeous! 😛

fullsizeoutput_145

“Sell out”, which is the shade on the top, is described as a matte soft pinky brown. “Suck it”, the shade at the bottom, is described as a matte rosewood. I use “Sell out” at work all the time. It’s a pretty nude pink and it goes with practically any makeup look, which is perfect for when you want to upgrade your day look to a night look! “Suck it” is honestly one of my favourite plumy shades I’ve ever worn. I can’t wait to rock this every day in the fall time!

Overall, these liquid lipsticks are really good for their price ($25 CDN). I love the way these products look and feel. I cannot wait to try some of the other shades in the range! If you’re looking to add these babies in your makeup collection, you can purchase them at any Too Faced retailers (I got mine at Sephora).

Pros:

  • Super pigmented
  • Opaque
  • Comfortable on the lips, they don’t dry them out
  • Cute bottle
  • Incredible formula

Cons:

  • None!

Rating: 10/10

Review: Smashbox’s Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick in Bawse

dscf4798

What up it’s your girl, Daff! (Okay, I totally ripped that off from Superwoman aka Lilly Singh, who’s the creator of this shade of lipstick…but you know…I had to). I’m back with a review today of this wonderful shade of lipstick created by YouTube creator Lilly Singh in partnership with Smashbox. Enjoy this review and let me know your thoughts! Don’t forget to follow me on all my socials listed on the right hand side of this page!

What Is It?

dscf4800 dscf4802 dscf4803

Smashbox FINALLY came out with a matte liquid lipstick range and I, for one, am super excited about these. This particular one is in the shade Bawse. Initially, I bought this shade for two reasons: It’s created by a YouTuber AND because it’s called Bawse (obvio). But to sum things up, it’s a liquid lipstick that’s supposed to stay on your lips for at least 8 hours while feeling super comfy on your lips! It’s infused with lip-smoothing Smashbox Primer Oil complex that’s supposed to give you suede-soft highly pigmented lip colour. This shade is described as a deep red that will look good on all skin tones!

How Long Did I Use It For?

Okay, I know I have a rule where I won’t review anything until I’ve used it for at least a month…but I mean I’ve used it for almost 3 weeks (that counts as a month right?). Let me tell you, if I’m already reviewing it this early, then you already know that this is a must have item!

First Impressions And Thoughts?

dscf4809

I fell in love at first swipe. No, really. With one swipe, I got everything I’ve ever wanted from a matte liquid lipstick formula. It’s super pigmented and you don’t need anything more than one swipe. It’s light on your lips, so much so that you sometimes forget you even have liquid lipstick on. It didn’t budge, didn’t smudge, practically didn’t move until I used makeup remover to remove it. Since all of it seemed like it was too good to be true, I actually timed the lippie on my lips before it started to slightly fade: literally 8 hours later it faded a tiny bit (and I ate, drank, took selfies all through out). It didn’t dry out my lips or even flake! So clearly, the formula is epicly awesome! Now for this shade of red. I love it. It really does look good on every skin tone…so shout outs to Smashbox and Lilly for really doing a great job with selecting this shade!

My Verdict?

dscf4811

Not only do I feel like a Bawse when I wear this lippie, I literally forget that I have lipstick on…that alone makes me want to go get more shades from this range. Smashbox, you are doing an amazing job with this range!

Where To Buy?

I got mine at Sephora, but you can get yours at any Smashbox retailer for $28 (CDN).

Worth A Repurchase?

Yes times 10 million (a nod to Lilly’s subscriber count).

Pros:

  • Lightweight
  • Glides on smoothly and easily, no mess
  • Super pigmented colour
  • Not drying, keeps lips moisturized, doesn’t flake
  • Cute packaging
  • Instantly gives you confidence (also, does that mean I can be a Unicorn now?)

Cons

  • None at all!

Overall Rating: 10/10 (Dear Lilly & Smashbox, you guys seriously hit this one out of the ball park and Smashbox, I can’t wait to try other shades in this range!)

Review: Kat Von D’s Studded Kiss Lipstick in Tijuana

IMG_1050

Woah! Look at me back with my first review of this year (okay, I’m clearly way too excited on this gloomy Monday). If you’ve been following this blog since day 1, then you already know that Kat Von D’s makeup line has quickly become one of my favourite brands. I’ve obsessed over her studded lipstick collection ever since it’s been out. This particular one was a new shade that I hadn’t seen in her collection line before, so of course I had to go ahead and pick it up to try it out.

What is it?

1780115_10153931280368503_9047348821911953528_o

Kat Von D’s Studded Kiss Lipstick in Tijuana is described as a vibrant Spanish red. It’s matte, it’s bold and it’s supposed to be long-lasting on your lips without drying them out. Like all of Kat Von D’s Studded lippies, this one is a hybrid lipstick formulated with Colour Cushion Technology (Say what? Basically, long-lasting wear+one swipe payoff+velvet touch comfort). It also has a light Crème Brule fragrance to it. It’s formulated without parabens, sulfates, & phthalates (if that’s something that’s uber important for you). Along with all that jazz, it’s formula is infused with vitamins A, C, & E. Not to mention that the casing of this lipstick is actually “studded”.

How long did I use it for?

Roughly two months and counting.

First Impressions & thoughts?

12525571_10153931280708503_4668757816435595928_o

As I mentioned earlier, when I saw the colour, I fell in love. I really hadn’t seen this kind of red being offered from Kat Von D before so I HAD to try it out. It’s not an orange-red but a bright vibrant red (does that description even make sense? Just look at the swatches and you’ll know what I’m saying). The first swipe on my lips was incredible. I got opaque colour without any fuss. Also, the colour seemed to light up my face! It also lasted pretty much the entire night until I took it off with my makeup eraser (shameless review plug).

My verdict?

First of all, the lipsticks in Kat Von D’s lipstick line are incredible. Tijuana did not disappoint me at all. Every single claim made (which you can read in the ‘What is it?’ heading) is completely true except for the part where it says “it won’t dry your lips out”. I tried it without lip balm and found that my lips felt like they were drying a tincy wincy bit (which was never the case with the previous shade I reviewed). BUT…when I layered it with a lip balm, it was the perfect red and formula for me. My lips were hydrated and the lipstick itself stayed on my lips all night long. I can see this being an issue for a few people but for me it was something minor, which kind of took a backseat because I was in love with the colour and how it looked on me. Also, can I mention that it smells delish?

Price & Where can you buy it?

$26 (CDN) at Sephora.

Would I repurchase it?

Most probably. Just because of the colour!

Pros:

  • Incredible colour payoff
  • Smells like vanilla
  • Gorgeous matte colour

Cons:

  • I recommend wearing a lip balm under it, just so your lips are a little hydrated.

Overall Rating: 8.5/10 (This really is a great lipstick! The reason why I deducted a point and a half was purely because you have to layer it with a lip balm for it to not dry out your lips. Otherwise, the colour pay off of this lippie is incredible!)

Review: Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar (Matte) in Strumpet

IMG_3916

Summer is almost here (although, in my neck of the woods spring has barely sprung)! One of my favourite things to rock during the spring and summer seasons is a bright bold lip! I find that this is the easiest way to dress up a casual ensemble. I’m always on the hunt to find great lip products, especially matte lip products. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (OCC) is very much raved about, so I was excited to try this out. As you can see, OCC’s lipsticks are called “Lip Tar” and they come in a tube with a mini brush, so that you can apply it with ease. These Lip Tars are described as having a high-opacity lipstick concentrate. It’s matte, bold, and bright. The shade Strumpet is described as a seedless grape red (but seriously it’s a bright magenta berry colour). The formula includes essential oils (hemp and peppermint) that condition the lips to soothe and soften them for a comfortable finish. It’s supposed to moisturize your lips while providing you long-lasting colour. The pigment is rich and opaque. Also, this formula is 100 % vegan and doesn’t contain any petroleum or silicone. It’s a matte lipstick that feels like a lipgloss.

My Verdict?

IMG_3926

The colour pay off on this lip product is insanely incredible! I don’t think I’ve come across such an opaque bold lip colour in a while. You definitely don’t need to use a lot of product to get the colour on your lips. Besides that, the formula of this lip tar is super long-lasting. I found that you needed makeup remover to remove the product off your lips. This does not dry out your lips out but rather keeps them moisturized (due to the hemp and peppermint oil). It doesn’t feel heavy on your lips at all. It says that this is a matte lipstick but to me it had a little sheen on your lips.

With that being said, there are a few cons to this product. Even though this product stays on your lips forever (it seems), it does feather. You will definitely need to wear some sort of lip liner with this product. Since the colour is so intensely pigmented, I wear a clear lip liner with this (this one is my fav). Other than that, I find that the packaging makes no sense to me, but because the lipstick is so great I can look past it. If you’re on the go or are super nonchalant about your lipstick application, then this probably won’t be your go to lipstick all the time. The application of this lipstick does take a little time but it’s definitely worth it just for the colour. All in all, this is an incredible lip product. I’m glad that each one of these tubes comes with its own mini lip brush, which is great for its price point ($22 CDN). Another great point about this product is the fact that it’s 100% vegan and cruelty free. Get this if you love bold, bright and long-lasting lip colour! You can purchase this at Sephora.

Happy Shopping Dolls! x

Pros:

  • Bright, Opaque, Bold colour
  • Incredibly long-lasting
  • Fantastic formula for a semi-matte lipstick
  • 100% vegan, cruelty, parabens, silicone free
  • Includes hemp and peppermint oils to soothe lips.

Cons:

  • It feathers, so you definitely need to wear it with a lip liner
  • Application takes time, not quick as I wanted (perhaps practice will make perfect)

Rating: 9/10 (This really is a great lip product OCC has put out, I just wish it didn’t feather)

Beauty Diaries: My Favourite MAC Products

 IMG_4724

So if you don’t know this already, now you will: I am a certified MAC cosmetics addict! This was one of the first beauty brands I had ever used, when I got into makeup and I’ve continued to use their products until now. Although, they have their hits and misses, there are a few staple products from this brand that I cannot live without. Here’s a list of the products that are absolute must-haves:

IMG_4723MAC Penultimate Eye Liner Rapidblack

This is one of the best liquid eye liners I have ever used! The colour is opaque and the best thing about this product is the fact that it’s simple and easy to use. It’s designed like a marker with a felt tip that’s super easy to control. It takes me less than 20 seconds to line my eyes with this liner and I use it everyday!

IMG_4720IMG_4721  MAC Studio Fix Foundation (NC43)

I know that a lot of people have a love/hate relationship with this product. I’ve had nothing but good experiences with this powder foundation. Since I have combination oily skin, this product keeps my shine at bay while giving me great coverage. This is one foundation I always end up using because it works great with my skin!

IMG_4715MAC Lipstick in Bombshell

This has to be one of the most unique pink coloured lipstick I have ever used or owned. It has a very nice gold sheen to it, which is what I think makes this product unique. The formula, as always, is great on my lips and I find that I reach for this particular lipstick whenever I am in doubt about what lip colour to use. I find it goes with any makeup look!

IMG_4713IMG_4714

MAC Mineralize SkinFinish Natural (Medium Deep)

If you must only purchase one product from MAC, then this has to be it! This is one of the best light coverage foundations I have ever used. I use this to set my liquid foundations as well as I wear this on top of BB creams. Since it’s light coverage, it’s not cakey and it sets everything perfectly. Plus, as the name says, it looks super natural and just blends with your skin!

IMG_4718MAC Eyeshadow in Shroom

I love this eyeshadow because it’s super versatile and the shade is absolutely gorgeous! The texture and formula of this shadow is awesome. You can use this as a highlight colour for your brow bones, cheek bones and your cupid’s arrow. As you can see, this is one of my most used eye shadows because it looks very natural on my skin and it looks pretty on my lids!

IMG_4705MAC Lipstick in Relentlessly Red

I bought this coraly pinky red matte lipstick colour on a whim and I’m so glad because I’m in love with this bold lip colour! The colour is pretty unique and it’s a matte lipstick, which is slowly becoming one of my favourite formulas I gravitate towards now. Everything about this lipstick is perfect, from the colour to the longevity on my lips!

IMG_4709MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in High Energy

Wearing lip liners on its own is slowly starting to become one of my favourite things to do. This particular lip liner is one of the creamiest liners I have ever used. Since it’s matte and pro longwear, I was surprised to see that my lips didn’t dry out at all. I love the colour. It’s a beautiful orangey bright poppy red, which is a perfect colour for a bold lip look!

IMG_4716MAC Nail Polish in Spice

I have been obsessed with this nail polish for a while now. This has to be the perfect blush/nude coloured nail polish I have ever come across. It looks amazing with my skin tone and it literally goes with anything. The formula is creamy and opaque. You will most likely find this shade on my nails anytime you see me, since it’s my most used!

IMG_4710MAC Mineralize Concealer (NW 35)

I’ve tried my fair share of concealers and this has to be my favourite! I use it for my undereye circles, any discoloration and blemishes. The coverage of this formula is incredible and it’s not drying at all! I love the brush tip that comes with this liquid concealer but I use a concealer brush to blend out the formula. It’s not cakey and literally binds to your skin!

IMG_4719MAC Lip Liner in Spice

Best. Lip. Liner. Ever! Seriously, I cannot even stress how much I love this lip liner. I wear this alone, I pair it with other lipsticks and it looks great! Everything from the longevity of this product on your lips to the colour is perfect! If you are looking for the perfect nude lip liner, then this is definitely it!

IMG_4712MAC Lipstick in Ruby Woo

I’m pretty sure everyone knows of this cult favourite lipstick! Ruby Woo has to be one of the best red matte lipsticks out there. I find that this shade works with pretty much every skin tone and it looks amazing on everyone! The formula of this product isn’t drying and the colour is incredibly opaque, which is why this is one of my favourite red lippies!

IMG_4704MAC Lip Glass in Pink Lemonade

I’m not a huge lip gloss girl, although I used to wear them a lot when I was younger; but this particular lip gloss is one gloss I reach for because it looks so pretty on my lips! It’s a coraly orange colour with shimmer so it’s perfect to wear on its own or layer on top of other lipsticks (which looks pretty great). I find that this is one lipgloss I use the most from my stash.

IMG_4708MAC Powder Blush in Blunt

This product is a new edition to my makeup drawer and all I can say is that it is quickly becoming one of my most used products! This powder blush is mainly used as a contouring powder. The reason why I love this is because you can control the colour to contour your face really well. One swipe of this shade gives you a natural looking contour, but you can also build it up for special occasions!

Review: Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Bachelorette

IMG_4259IMG_4252

I think everyone by now is aware of my growing obsession with bold coloured lipsticks. I picked up this Kat Von D lipstick last year during a VIB Sephora Haul on a whim because I loved how the colour looked on my skin when I had swatched it. I didn’t bother trying it on my lips because I was running low on time. This lipstick is a matte lipstick from her Studded Kiss Lipstick line. It’s called Bachelorette and it’s a matte reddish fuchsia colour (which is slowly becoming one of my weaknesses). According to its makers, this creme brule scented lipstick is one of its kind. It’s supposed to stay on your lips for 10 hours while giving you the most luxurious bold colour ever with just one swipe. The formula is creamy despite being a matte lipstick and it’s meant to leave your lips soft and supple. Infused with vitamins A, C, and E, this lipstick should improve the look and feel of your lips with every use. After reading about all these claims, I was extremely excited to try this lipstick out.

My Verdict?

IMG_4254IMG_4266

This has become one of my go-to favourite lipsticks I have ever used! I’ve tried my fair share of lip products in the past and often, I don’t like the products I buy on a whim; but this particular one really blew me away. I’m not surprised because Kat Von D’s lip products are always raved about. I’ve tried the liquid lipsticks and I’ve loved them, so my expectations were high for this product and I can safely say that it has exceeded my expectations. First of all, this lipstick’s staying power on your lips is incredible! It says that it stays on your lips for 10 hours, but for me, it definitely stayed on for more than 10 hours! I’ve worn this to events and I didn’t even need to reapply my lipstick. It survived eating, drinking, dancing and everything in between! Secondly, the formula is amazing for a matte lipstick. It doesn’t dry out your lips nor does it really budge from your lips. I found that my lips stayed hydrated (although I did use a lip balm as a base). I also didn’t need to apply lip liner as the colour didn’t feather. The formula is creamy but not overly creamy. Thirdly, this is a beautiful and unique colour that I’ve come across. It looks great on my skin tone and it’s a perfect pop of colour on your lips. Also, you get intense opaque colour with just one swipe of this lipstick which is phenomenal for a product like this. Lastly, I love the gothic packaging of this product! It’s unique and pretty simple to use. All in all, this is one amazing lip product because of its unique colour and formula. I highly recommend this product to anyone who’s looking for a matte pop of colour for their lips! I loved this particular product so much, that I ended up going back and purchasing more shades! At $26 (CDN), it is worth every little bit of your money! You can purchase this at Sephora.
