Review: Fenty Beauty Match Stix Trio in Tan (Truffle, Caramel & Rum)

fullsizeoutput_82e

I, along with the world, am slowly falling in love with practically every product that’s in Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty line. When I saw that Fenty Beauty had a curated “contour” kit, I just couldn’t resist and had to see what it was all about!

fullsizeoutput_82f

What is it: This cream-to-powder contour kit includes everything you need for the perfect contour. Fenty Beauty came out with 4 curated skin tone shade kits and I picked up the shade Tan because it seemed like it would work for my skin tone. The kit includes a Matte contour match stix in Truffle, a matte Concealer match stix in Caramel and a Shimmer highlight stix in Rum. All three of the “stix” are full-sized and are retractable. In addition to all that, they’re also magnetic, which makes it perfect for traveling!

fullsizeoutput_830

The Good: OKAY. THE FORMULA OF THIS PRODUCT IS EPIC. Yes, I needed to write all of that in caps to get my point across. No, seriously, the formula is amazing. It’s creamy enough to blend extremely well on to your skin but hard enough for it to not break off (hmm KKW needs to learn a thing or two from this range). Not only does this blend extremely well, it’s also buildable…which makes contouring super easy for newbies. The highlighting shade is SO pretty and you can definitely wear it as an eyeshadow too (bonus points for versatility). The longevity of these products are great! It definitely stayed on my face without any movement until I used makeup remover to take it off. It wasn’t cakey and I love how all three shades go so well with one another. And can we talk about the packaging? The fact that it’s magnetic is what sold it for me because I tend to lose products when I travel and *hopefully* I won’t now that they’re all stuck together (lol). Also, these stix are SO pigmented. You only need one swipe of this to do the work for you!

fullsizeoutput_831

The Bad: One of the only things I had a teeny issue with is the shade Caramel. Now, for me, it’s pretty much the same skin tone…so if you’re looking to have a brighter under eye look, then this is not going to do it. But needless to say, as a concealer to cover up acne or scars, this was great!

Overall Rating: 10/10 ($67 CDN at Sephora….the price is totally worth it)

Review: Lush Lip Scrub In Honey

fullsizeoutput_610

Whenever I walk into a Lush store, I’m overwhelmed with excitement! Although, I will be the first one to admit that I didn’t know much about Lush until a friend urged me to go and check out their soaps. Once I went inside, I was intrigued with everything these natural/handmade/organic products had to offer. This particular product had been on my list to try out and boy am I glad I did.

fullsizeoutput_60f

What is it: This is a handmade lip scrub. I picked up the Honey flavour because it smelled oh so yummy. This pot is filled with castor sugar crystals mixed in with honey, white chocolate (yes you read that right), vanilla and jojoba oil as well as tingly mint. It’s  meant to flake all the dead & dry skin off your lips while leaving them super soft and smooth.

How it works: This isn’t just your average lip scrub. Nope. Not at all. It’s edible. Seriously. I mean you can’t eat it in spoonfuls but you can def lick the excess off your lips (it says so on the bottle, I’m not making this up). This is probably because all the products used in this are natural. With a Q-tip (you can use your fingers too), I take a pea size amount and apply it to my lips. Depending on the severity of my lips (winter is brutal), I either use the Q tip or my lips to spread the sugar crystals around to “flake” off the dead skin. The best thing about this product is there’s no need to rinse…you just lick your lips off (LOL)….or you can apply lip balm after…whatever floats your boat.

fullsizeoutput_60e

The Good: I love the size of this product. You get so much in a tiny pot and you don’t even need to use a lot of the product. The texture of this product is pretty good. The sugar crystals don’t melt upon touch and stays in tact on your lips until you begin to “scrub”. It’s super gentle, which is a HUGE plus point especially for sensitive lips. It’s really easy to work with and there’s no fallout. Although the product is edible, I haven’t tried to eat it nor have I licked it despite it smelling oh so good! The scrub did what it said it would do, which is good!

The Bad: With everything being said…unfortunately, this wasn’t like a life changing product for my lips. It’s nice, don’t get me wrong, but I felt like it was pretty average. After I took off the lip scrub, my lips weren’t over the top moisturized and I definitely had to apply lip balm…but that was literally the only downside to it. Nonetheless, this isn’t a horrible product at all. The price of this is $10.95(CDN) and you can pick it up at any Lush store or online.

Review: NYX Lip Lingerie in Embellishment (02), Ruffle Trim (04), & Exotic (12)

fullsizeoutput_606 (From Top to Bottom: Exotic, Embellishment, Ruffle Trim)

NYX is slowly starting to become my go-to brand for my everyday makeup looks. Not only is the brand ridiculously affordable, it also offers a diverse range of products, colours and finishes (which is a plus point for every makeup junkie). When I went into the store and swatched some of the colours from the NYX Lip Lingerie line I was stunned at the quality of product for its price! To me, this range of lippies are all nude shades that can suit any and every skintone (woohoo!).

What is it: NYX’s Lip Lingerie line are a range of matte liquid lipsticks that have incredible colour pay off while moisturizing your lips. It’s long-lasting and the shades range from super light nudes to super dark nudes. I picked up three shades called Exotic, Embellishment and Ruffle Trim. Although, I wanted to pick up more…I realized that these three shades were super unique compared to what I had already owned. Exotic is a pretty flesh-tone pink nude. Embellishment is a purpley mauve and Ruffle Trim is a light dusty rose (so pretty). The packaging is cute and pretty average as well as the applicator is a flatter blush.

(From Top to Bottom: Ruffle Trip, Embellishment, Exotic)

The Good: OH. EM. G. I am in love. And I know if you’re an avid reader of this blog (thank you!), you know that liquid lipsticks are literally my domain. I’ve tried most of them out there and every time I’m either extremely impressed or extremely disappointed. And this particular range extremely impressed me. These shades are probably my most used liquid lipsticks to right now. This is mainly because not only can you rock these during your dolled up days but you can also rock these on its own on a no makeup day and still look great while remaining sublte! The formula of these liquid lippies are amazing. It feels creamy/moussey when you first apply but it dries super quick to a matte finish. It’s moisturizing and doesn’t leave your lips looking flakey at all. The colour pay off is incredible. You can wear these alone or pair them with other lipsticks to create unique to you shades (bonus!). It’s not greasy despite being creamy and I love how nice it looked on my lips. The longevity of this product is good. During a full work day, I had to reapply it only once…which is not bad at all! The highlight of this product is its incredibly affordable price. At $9(CDN), you are getting MORE than your money’s worth and I’m totally happy with that!

The Bad: Nothing. Nothing at all.

Review: Chanel Rouge Double Intensité Ultra Wear Lip Colour In Soft Rose (48)

fullsizeoutput_388

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, then you already know my obsession with Chanel’s beauty products. Even though it’s super expensive (goodbye early retirement), Chanel’s beauty line is probably one of the nicest luxury beauty lines out there. When I heard that they were releasing a lip duo, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it!

fullsizeoutput_389

What is it: This long-wearing doubled ended lip product has a liquid lipstick on one end and a lip gloss on the other. They can be used individually or together, depending on what lip look you are going for. The shade I picked up is called Soft Rose, which is a dusty rose/mauve with a hint of shimmer. It’s a satin finish when worn alone. The packaging is really pretty. The black pot holds the gloss and the coloured part holds the liquid lipstick (duh lolz). The applicator’s base is gold. The liquid lip applicator is your typical liquid lipstick applicator and the gloss applicator is a brush (which I love!).

fullsizeoutput_38b

The Good: UHM. When Chanel says they’re giving you a long wearing lipstick/gloss duo, they definitely mean it times a million. My lip look did not budge or smudge or do anything other than stay on perfectly well. I tried using the liquid lipstick alone and even on its own, the lipstick did not fade at all. I also wore the gloss on its own and the same thing. NOTHING MOVED. I loved how easy it was to wear and can we take a moment and appreciate the smell of this product? I’m assuming if Chanel ever decided to sell chocolates, this is what it would smell like. The opacity of the liquid lipstick was really good. You can build up the intensity or you can wear it as a stain alone. The lip gloss is not sticky and just perfect. The lip shades look great on its own or with the gloss. Like I mentioned, this lip product stayed on for a lot longer than I thought and because I was super curious to see if it would last all night long…I ended up going to bed with this product on and there was no transfer on my bedding or pillow. Also, did I mention this DOES NOT MOVE OR BUDGE? I had to use warm water and makeup remover to remove it!

The Bad: I will say that the price point might be the biggest drawback. If you’re looking to invest in a GOOD lip product, then this is definitely it. You truly are going to get your money’s worth with this one. Remember, you’re getting a liquid lipstick and a gloss in one! So totes worth it!

Where you can get it: I picked up mine from the Chanel counter at The Hudson’s Bay (hello points!) for $45 (CDN).

Review: Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Quickie Contour Stick

DSC04360

So if you read my post last month, then you already know how excited I have been to try Benefit’s Hoola Quickie contour stick. Seriously, I am not by any means an expert at contouring. In fact, I still don’t understand how it works. I won’t lie though, I have tried it out at different events because of this very product but I’ve never really been able to master it…until I tried THIS product.

DSC04369

Benefit’s Hoola bronzer is a cult favourite. Anyone and everyone that knows anything about makeup has heard of that particular bronzer. When they decided to come out with a cream-stick version of it, I was beyond excited to try it. It’s a cream-to-powder formula which means that it goes on like a cream and it dries as a powder. Since it’s in a form of a stick, you just have to line the areas you’re trying to contour (hence the quickie part of the name) and blend either using your fingers, a brush or the Beauty Blender.

DSC04371

This soft matte bronzer has been one of my favourite products to try. I have to say when I tried this to contour my cheekbones, nose and jaw line…it worked like a charm. Never has a contour looked so natural in my life. It’s super bendable and the packaging is super cute. There’s no fragrance to it and I loved how easy it was to use. You can definitely build up the formula and layer with other products, if you’re looking to look super sculpted.

DSC04373

However, there is ONE slight issue. In a world where there are tons of different skin tones, I can’t see this working for my dolls that have a darker skin tone. In fact, it doesn’t really show up A LOT on my skin, unless I layer or build. But I like to use this for a natural looking contour, so it works out in my case. Although, I will mention…when I wanted to see if this can give me that Kardashian look, I found I was using a lot more product than any of my other bronzer/contour powder.

With everything being said, I do think this is a really good product Benefit has put out. Those who love the original boxed powders are going to absolutely love this because it’s easy to use, looks very natural and it’s very easy to build. Plus, it looks SO cute on your makeup counter. This product retails for $38 (CDN) at any Benefit counter!

Pros:

  • Cream stick dries to a powder
  • Doesn’t irritate skin
  • Soft Matte bronzer/contour, doesn’t look shiny
  • Buildable and blends really easy

Cons:

  • Shade might be a little to light for darker skin tones
  • You do end up using a lot of product if you have mid range skin tone

Rating: 8.5/10

Review: Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Liquid Lipstick

dsc02533

Hello Dolls! Hope you’re having an awesome day! If you haven’t checked out my previous post, make sure you do by clicking right here. And as always, follow me on all my socials listed at the top of this page. In this post, I’m finally bringing you a review (it’s been a minute) of one of my favourite liquid lipstick brands. Anastasia Beverly Hills changed the liquid lipstick game, when they released these babies. They’re practically always sold out and these are the ones I’ve been able to get my hands on. So without further adieu…

First Impressions

dsc02538

Remember when I said this was one of my favourite makeup brands ever? Well these products are one of the main reasons why. Initially, I picked these up because the Sephora worker suggested I try “Carina”, since I was in the market for finding a bright pink lipstick. As always, I fell in love with first swatch and decided to pick up 3 more shades I was dying to try. They were Dusty Rose, Catnip and Kathryn (more on the shades individually below). Not only do these swatch well but they feel great on your lips too!

Product Formula, Application, Packaging and Swatches

The formula of this product is incredibly awesome. Like I cannot even explain to you how great these feel on your lips. They keep your lips moisturized and they dry incredibly quickly on your lips. They also stay put. That means it’s food, smudge, drink, kiss, etc. proof and you know how much I love products that doesn’t require me to reapply them. I’ve had these babies on for HOURS and never had to reapply them once. And I’m not speaking just for one shade but ALL four of these shades. The product application is simple and just like your typical liquid lipstick. The applicator is generic, so nothing surprising there. The packaging is also pretty generic, so nothing too extravagant. Which is fine because I’m always more interested in what the product does versus what it looks like. Let’s break down the individual shades. They’re all matte and they look gorgeous.

  • Kathryn: I think the best way I can describe this is a brick reddish-brown.
  • Dusty Rose: Pretty much the same as its namesake. It’s a dusty rose nude.
  • Carina: Literally one of my favourite shades ever. A bright watermelon pink
  • Catnip: A mauvey plummy nude.

Each one of these shades swatch incredibly well. In fact, every swatch you see below is just one swipe of the colour. All four of these shades are my most worn lipsticks ever. Below you’ll see the picture of the shades without and with flash:

Availability, Accessibility and Price

You can pick yours up at Sephora or any Anastasia Beverly Hills retailers for $26 (CDN)!

Overall Rating

I am in love with all these shades and can’t wait to add more colours to my kit! The price is great, the swatches are super pigmented and they feel super natural on your lips. I mean what more can you ask for?

Overall Rating: 10/10

See you in the next post!

kisses,
