Review: Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Quickie Contour Stick

DSC04360

So if you read my post last month, then you already know how excited I have been to try Benefit’s Hoola Quickie contour stick. Seriously, I am not by any means an expert at contouring. In fact, I still don’t understand how it works. I won’t lie though, I have tried it out at different events because of this very product but I’ve never really been able to master it…until I tried THIS product.

Benefit’s Hoola bronzer is a cult favourite. Anyone and everyone that knows anything about makeup has heard of that particular bronzer. When they decided to come out with a cream-stick version of it, I was beyond excited to try it. It’s a cream-to-powder formula which means that it goes on like a cream and it dries as a powder. Since it’s in a form of a stick, you just have to line the areas you’re trying to contour (hence the quickie part of the name) and blend either using your fingers, a brush or the Beauty Blender.

This soft matte bronzer has been one of my favourite products to try. I have to say when I tried this to contour my cheekbones, nose and jaw line…it worked like a charm. Never has a contour looked so natural in my life. It’s super bendable and the packaging is super cute. There’s no fragrance to it and I loved how easy it was to use. You can definitely build up the formula and layer with other products, if you’re looking to look super sculpted.

However, there is ONE slight issue. In a world where there are tons of different skin tones, I can’t see this working for my dolls that have a darker skin tone. In fact, it doesn’t really show up A LOT on my skin, unless I layer or build. But I like to use this for a natural looking contour, so it works out in my case. Although, I will mention…when I wanted to see if this can give me that Kardashian look, I found I was using a lot more product than any of my other bronzer/contour powder.

With everything being said, I do think this is a really good product Benefit has put out. Those who love the original boxed powders are going to absolutely love this because it’s easy to use, looks very natural and it’s very easy to build. Plus, it looks SO cute on your makeup counter. This product retails for $38 (CDN) at any Benefit counter!

Pros:

  • Cream stick dries to a powder
  • Doesn’t irritate skin
  • Soft Matte bronzer/contour, doesn’t look shiny
  • Buildable and blends really easy

Cons:

  • Shade might be a little to light for darker skin tones
  • You do end up using a lot of product if you have mid range skin tone

Rating: 8.5/10

Review: Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Liquid Lipstick

dsc02533

Hello Dolls! Hope you’re having an awesome day! If you haven’t checked out my previous post, make sure you do by clicking right here. And as always, follow me on all my socials listed at the top of this page. In this post, I’m finally bringing you a review (it’s been a minute) of one of my favourite liquid lipstick brands. Anastasia Beverly Hills changed the liquid lipstick game, when they released these babies. They’re practically always sold out and these are the ones I’ve been able to get my hands on. So without further adieu…

First Impressions

dsc02538

Remember when I said this was one of my favourite makeup brands ever? Well these products are one of the main reasons why. Initially, I picked these up because the Sephora worker suggested I try “Carina”, since I was in the market for finding a bright pink lipstick. As always, I fell in love with first swatch and decided to pick up 3 more shades I was dying to try. They were Dusty Rose, Catnip and Kathryn (more on the shades individually below). Not only do these swatch well but they feel great on your lips too!

Product Formula, Application, Packaging and Swatches

The formula of this product is incredibly awesome. Like I cannot even explain to you how great these feel on your lips. They keep your lips moisturized and they dry incredibly quickly on your lips. They also stay put. That means it’s food, smudge, drink, kiss, etc. proof and you know how much I love products that doesn’t require me to reapply them. I’ve had these babies on for HOURS and never had to reapply them once. And I’m not speaking just for one shade but ALL four of these shades. The product application is simple and just like your typical liquid lipstick. The applicator is generic, so nothing surprising there. The packaging is also pretty generic, so nothing too extravagant. Which is fine because I’m always more interested in what the product does versus what it looks like. Let’s break down the individual shades. They’re all matte and they look gorgeous.

  • Kathryn: I think the best way I can describe this is a brick reddish-brown.
  • Dusty Rose: Pretty much the same as its namesake. It’s a dusty rose nude.
  • Carina: Literally one of my favourite shades ever. A bright watermelon pink
  • Catnip: A mauvey plummy nude.

Each one of these shades swatch incredibly well. In fact, every swatch you see below is just one swipe of the colour. All four of these shades are my most worn lipsticks ever. Below you’ll see the picture of the shades without and with flash:

Availability, Accessibility and Price

You can pick yours up at Sephora or any Anastasia Beverly Hills retailers for $26 (CDN)!

Overall Rating

I am in love with all these shades and can’t wait to add more colours to my kit! The price is great, the swatches are super pigmented and they feel super natural on your lips. I mean what more can you ask for?

Overall Rating: 10/10

On Not Giving Up

img_4915

Hello Dolls! It’s Monday and you know what that means?! I’ve got a new Motivational Monday post for you! If you haven’t read my previous post, you can do so by clicking right here. In this post, I want to talk about not giving up when you’re faced with a dilemma (no matter what it is). Whether if it’s a task at hand, your short-term goals, long-term goals or big-ticket dreams, you should never give up on them. Yes, it’s as simple as it sounds. It seems people give up on things they believe in or stand for because it’s the easy way out or because they’re influenced to do so. But you must always believe in yourself (you already know how I feel about that). You are your biggest cheerleader and you should never have to give up or change things you believe in or stand for. If you come across something that is hard and you don’t know how to overcome it, giving up on it won’t make it go away. It’ll only make you feel worse about yourself and eliminate all the positive vibes. Instead of giving up on whatever is at hand, think of different approaches in finding a solution. Think about changing the course of the action you’re taking to achieve whatever it is you are trying to achieve instead of changing the end goal. Anyone can accomplish anything by believing and not giving up. Would life be fun at all if achieving your goals were THAT easy? And, think about how much more you will appreciate whatever it is that you’re trying to accomplish. Accomplishing positive results in tough situations is what makes you stronger and grow as a person. Always focus on YOUR vision. So, make those goals, start creating a course of action and never give up…no matter how hard it is to see your goals being accomplished in the horizon!

See you in the next post!

Making Decisions

Hello Dolls! Hope you’re having an awesome day! If you didn’t check out my previous blog post, you can do so by clicking right here. Also, make sure you follow me on all my socials (located at the top and side of this page). I know last Monday I wrote about the fashion at The Globes but I’m back to regularly scheduled Motivational Monday posts (lolz). Anyways, now that we have that out of the way…let’s get right into this week’s topic. It’s all about making decisions and sticking to them.

fullsizeoutput_12

Remember how I said that if change is scary, that means whatever you’re embarking on is worth a risk? Well, decision-making is very much the same thing. Yes, it’s always good to weigh the pros/cons of whatever it is you’re deciding on (believe me, I do this all the time) but you also want to be extremely confident in whatever decision YOU are making. It’s always going to be a learning curve in life and whatever decision you make about whatever situations are put up against you is what defines your future. Woo, that’s a lot of pressure right? But, it really comes down how you look at it. Look at it as a way of learning. Learning who you are, who you want to become and who you are becoming (all the positivity)…and I can guarantee you that you will always be happy with whatever decision you make no matter the outcome. There never is a wrong a decision in life (other than wearing an all neon outfit…srsly..don’t do it). There is most definitely a life lesson involved in every decision you make. So, don’t be afraid to take that risk and make a decision based on what will help YOU grow as a person!

Hope that’s given you some motivation for today….see you in the next post!

kisses,

S

Blake Lively

blake-lively-golden-globes-2017

…Because she’s totally worth being on the top of my best dressed list. Seriously, didn’t she like just have a baby? Love the emerald cuff with the all black gown. The hint of metallic sparkle is SO hot just like her hubby.

Emma Stone

74th Annual Golden Globe Awards, Arrivals, Los Angeles, USA - 08 Jan 2017

Her dress has stars! Like come on. That alone makes this dress stunning. I can’t find a single thing wrong with this outfit. It’s making me just LaLa all around my room (yeah, I know that’s a terrible)…but how gorgeous does she look. This is an Easy A+ outfit (kay I’ll stop).

Brie Larson

74th Annual Golden Globe Awards, Arrivals, Los Angeles, USA - 08 Jan 2017

Brie looks incredible in this gorgeous red dress. I love the embellishments woven in. My favourite part of this look is the fact that she is rocking a matching lip and breaking all kinds of beauty rules in doing so…and I love it.

Kristen Bell

fd50b7db8146c4d4a1822222e8064cc4

Kristen Bell looks absolutely gorgeous in this sparkly gown. It’s making me want to stare at my non sparkly outfits and sing let it go over and over again (lol). But seriously, the plunging neckline looks classy, not trashy, and that’s why this outfit works!

Busy Phillipps

sub-buzz-31095-1483921224-10

OMG REMEMBER HER FROM DAWSON’S CREEK? How GORG is this dress? I actually want to jump into this picture and steal this so that I can wear it everyday! I love the minimalistic embroidered flowers. AND that purse…purrrfecto!

Michelle Williams

sub-buzz-6224-1483920306-5

On keeping with the Dawson’s Creek theme, Michelle Williams hit it out of the park with this look. She basically has hit all the trendy looks in one outfit and I can’t be any happier. The minimal makeup and the sleeked pixie hair is the perfect bow to her outfit!

Priyanka Chopra

sub-buzz-3526-1483919723-7

Let us take a moment and appreciate the fact that Priyanka Chopra is a fashion icon in the making. Everything about this outfit is perfect from the hair to the makeup and she’s making EVERY single brown girl scream, ain’t nobody like a desi girl 😛

Janelle Monae

sub-buzz-1660-1483921164-5

OMG. OMG. OMG. I love this. Janelle just proves more and more why pushing the boundaries in fashion will work out and why taking risks are always worth it. I love everything here from the polka dots to the organza to the sequins. All kinds of glam.

Natalie Portman

sub-buzz-32434-1483919864-6

Jackie O would be SO proud of this elegant look Natalie is sporting. The colour, the makeup, the hair and everything else is just spectacularly chic. Also, only Natalie Portman can make maternity dressing looks this perfectly glamourous.

Lily Collins

sub-buzz-32593-1483919174-1

This is actually what a Disney Princess looks like in real life. No joke. The blush gown embellished with printed flowers is the prettiest thing I’ve seen on a red carpet. I love that she kept the princess vibe with her hair and makeup. All kinds of gorgeous right here.

See ya in the next post!

kisses,

S
