Review: MAC Cosmetics’ Next To Nothing Face Colour & Powder

DSC04290

If you’ve been following me on Instagram, then you already know that I’ve been using this particular foundation (it’s not marketed as a foundation…but I’m going to call it foundation lol) for the past couple weeks. You know what this means? I’ve got a new review for you, just like old times!

What is it?

It’s an ultra glowy foundation created for a no-makeup makeup look. These babies are meant to give you a radiant glow while perfecting your skin. They include special micro-light thingamajigs, which I’m sure if you go on their website you can read about…I’m here to tell you my experience with using these two products.

The liquid version of this “Next-to-nothing” face colour line is absolutely flawless. I love the way it feels on my skin. It’s balmy and smooth. I layered it with a mattifying primer and I still got a gorgeous dewey look. I’ve used these alone and I’ve paired it with other products to see what the effect would be…and it was the same: perfect. It looks like you have a filter on your face without looking caked at all. It didn’t crease nor did it become oily throughout the day. I have combination oily skin, so I was really worried about that but it was flawless (if you want to head to my Instagram, you can see the results yourself. I used NO editing tools or filters on that picture).

The powder version of it is great too! I can definitely see myself using this throughout the summer time because neither of the two (alone or combined together) felt heavy on my face. It’s lightweight and very easy to blend. In fact, it felt like it gelled with my skin! MAC recommends that you use these with synthetic brushes and/or sponges and that’s exactly what I did and the results were amazing! My face was radiant and it works really well with other makeup too (i.e. blush or contour).

If you’re looking for a no-makeup look face product…these are it. These picture well, they look gorgeous in person, they layer really well with other products and it makes you look like you have no make up on! I will mention that the shade range is limited. I didn’t swatch these here because ultimately with foundation it comes down to what your skin can gel with. And, I can definitely say: this is a product that will work with different skin types! It smells exactly like the Fix+. But overall, I really loved the way it looked on my skin! Also, the pressed powders are definitely more pigmented than the liquid form of this product, but both are buildable (which is perfect for the summer time).

Price:

  • Liquid: $38 (CDN)
  • Powder: $32 (CDN)

Pros:

  • Lightweight, buildable, looks pretty on skin!
  • Leaves you with the perfect radiant glow!
  • Very natural looking, doesn’t crease or cake

Cons:

  • The smell can be problematic for some
  • Not a lot of shades in the range, which is a surprise for MAC

Overall Rating: 9/10

Review: Benefit Cosmetics’ Browzings in Dark

IMG_7007

IMG_7008

Benefit has been my favourite brand of cosmetics for a while now. I’ve never really been disappointed by any of the products that I have tried from them. So when I picked this up, I knew I wasn’t going to be disappointed. Benefit Cosmetics’ Browzings is an eyebrow shaping kit, that includes a mini tweezer, a blending brush, an angled brush, pigmented wax and setting powder. I picked up the shade dark, since my eyebrows are dark (duh). My first impression of this product was pretty good. The size of the product is great for travel and it comes with a compact mirror, so you can’t really go wrong!

My verdict?

IMG_7009

I’ve been using this product for a couple of years now and I can safely say that this has to be one of the most useful makeup products that I own. First of all, I absolutely love the size and packaging of this product. It’s perfect for travel as well as it’s discreet enough to toss into your makeup bag (no matter the size). Secondly, this kit has everything you need. The tweezers are perfect for little stray hairs that appear in between me getting my eyebrows threaded. Also, the blending brush & the angled brush are perfect for the powder and the wax in this kit. Third of all, the powder and the wax are amazing! The pigmented wax defines and shapes my brows perfectly, while keeping them in place. The setting powder is great to fill in sparse areas. On top of that, the powder has a soft finish. Honestly, I use this for every occasion and I find that this kit does everything you want it to do for your brows. All in all, this is a phenomenal brow kit! At $42 (CDN), it really is worth every single dime. It will last you a long time and you really are getting a lot of product for the money. I picked mine up at a local Sephora, but you can get yours anywhere that sells Benefit products!

  • Setting Powder has a soft finish
  • Kit includes everything that you need
  • Compact packaging with a mirror; simple & easy to use

Cons:

  • None!

Rating: 10/10 (This is one eyebrow product I know I cannot live without! This is definitely worth a try for anyone looking for an eyebrow kit)

Review: Nars Bronzing Powder in Laguna

IMG_3791

Ah I’ve figured out the best way to cure the winter blues, just wear a little bit of bronzer and I guarantee that you will instantly feel like summer is just around the corner. Nars, as everyone knows, is one of the top leading high-end makeup brand out there. Everyone from celebrities to the average everyday person has heard or used this particular brand. It’s one of my favourites because I have rarely ever been disappointed by the quality of their products. So when I was reading about the Nars bronzer in Laguna, I had to see for myself what everyone was raving about! This bronzer in Laguna is a true brown-based bronzer with subtle gold shimmer so that you are left with healthy, glowing, tanned skin without making a trip to the tanning salon or the islands! Laguna is described as a diffused brown powder with golden shimmer. It’s meant to create an all-over warmth or contour for the face. It’s finely milled powders fills in lines and pores for smother, more even looking complexion. This shade is natural looking and perfect for all skin tones.

My Verdict?

IMG_3793

I’ve been using this bronzer for a couple of years now and I can say that I am very impressed with what this bronzer has to offer. Now this product does say that it can be used as a contour, but for me that wasn’t the case because the colour is fairly light for my skin tone. But as a bronzer, I love this product! Every claim it makes is true. Firstly, the colour pay off as a bronzer is great! It’s got a slight golden kissed shimmer, which is perfect for a bronzer. After applying this on my cheeks and temples, my face really did have that perfect natural/healthy sun-kissed glow without really being sun-kissed (ha! The art of makeup). Secondly, the formula and texture of this product is incredible. It’s smooth to touch and not powdery at all. It glides perfectly on to your skin without drying it out. The finish of the product is a sheeny/satiny finish. Lastly, longevity wise, this product lasted on my skin and didn’t budge until I used a makeup remover to remove it. So all in all, this is a really good  quality bronzer for those who want a natural subtle glow. With that being said there are a few negatives. The price is incredibly high. At a whopping $62 (CDN), it really will be an investment for some. For me, it wasn’t a huge deal because of the size of the product. You really are getting a huge amount (I’ve used this a lot and barely hit the pan). Also, the packaging is good, you get a pretty big mirror attached to the bronzer! The other issue is that this particular bronzer might be too light for darker skin tones, which is why I wasn’t able to use it as a contour. But again, if it’s only a bronzer you want, then this is a phenomenal product. But I do believe that fairer skin tones will benefit more from this shade and will be able to use it as a contour. You can purchase this at any Nars counters (I got mine at Sephora).

Pros:

  • Gives you a natural, healthy, sun-kissed glow
  • Not glittery, but slightly shimmery without going overboard
  • Colour pay off is decent
  • Smooth and soft texture/formula
  • Quality bronzer
  • Packaging includes a mirror

Cons:

  • Price
  • Not a versatile product for darker skin tones
  • Can’t be used as a contour for darker skin tones

Rating: 8/10 (This really is a great product for anyone who wants that “I just came back from the Bahamas” look. I had to deduct two points for the price as well as because I wasn’t able to use this as a contour)
