The Oscars were on last night (just in case you didn’t know) and anyone who’s obsessed with fashion and movies were glued to their TVs watching! Neil Patrick Harris was the host and he was alright. The opening monologue was probably the highlight of his hosting duties but everything after that was kind of okay. There were two incredible musical performances that stood out last night. Lady Gaga’s The Sound of Music tribute proves why she is talented; and John Legend and Common hit it out of the park with their performance of their Oscar-winning song, Glory. The winners were all as expected with a few surprises (hello Birdman). My favourite part of the night? Meryl Streep’s reaction to Patricia Arquette’s comment about pay equality for women (duh, she is the queen of Hollywood). With that being said, let’s talk about the fashion! Everyone was dressed to impress, with a few misses (as always). There were 4 major fashion trends last night: Pale Colours, Red, Statement Necklaces and Visible lip colour! Below is a list of my best dressed along with my worst dressed:
Anna Kendrick in Thakoon
Anna looked incredible in this peach flowy gown. The embellished neck detail and the cut out on this dress is beautiful. Her hair and makeup were also flawless making this one of her best dressed ensembles ever!
Jennifer Hudson in Romona Keviza
JHud makes wearing yellow look easy. This strapless body-hugging column dress fits her like a glove. The detailed belt on her waistline is pretty. Dangly earrings, swept back hair and gorgeous makeup finished the look.
America Ferrera in Jenny Packham
This beautiful slate bluey grey flowy gown looks incredible on America. The matchy jewelry is not tacky. The belt on her waistline is nice. She finished the look with wavy hair, simple makeup, and a pop of colour clutch!
Margot Robbie in Saint Laurent
Margot Robbie is the ultimate glamourista. This black tailored gown looks exquisite. From the sheer sleeves to the low-cut front, everything about this is amazing. The gorgeous zipper statement necklace is what elevates the style quotient here.
Rosamund Pike in Givenchy
Red is Rosamund’s colour. She looks gorgeous in this gown. I love the front slit and the scalloped neckline. This look is just so pretty with the simple hair, makeup and matchy shoes! Rosamund really hit it out of the park!
Lupita Nyong’o in Custom Calvin Kline
All hail Lupita! She knows how to take a fashion risk. This embellished pearl gown is gorgeous! Lupita looks incredible. This look is styled so well that everything else is neutral leaving the dress to be the main attraction!
Emma Stone in Elie Saab
How pretty does Emma look in this gold embellished gown? The cut of this dress and the long sleeves are perfect for the Oscars. Her hair and makeup are also flawless, which enhances this whole ensemble to another level!
Naomi Watts in Armani Prive
Everything about this is perfection. The embellished brick print on the dress is perfection. The peaking sparkly black tube top is perfection. Her wavy hair and makeup are perfection. This whole ensemble is pure perfection!
Jennifer Aniston in Versace
Jen has really brought her A game this awards season. The pale embellished gown looks ravishing! The detailed work on this dress is gorgeous. Jen sticks to her signature hair & makeup, which allows her dress to be the focal point.
Reese Witherspoon in Tom Ford
Reese looks gorgeous in this unique icy blue column dress. I love the black material used for the off the shoulder sleeves and to accentuate her waistline. She keeps it simple with the accessories, makeup and hair.
Scarlett Johansson in Versace
Is it hard to believe that she just had a baby a few months ago? She looks gorgeous in this emerald-green gown. The neckpiece on this dress is amazing! The hair, the makeup, the minimal accessories works harmoniously together.
Dakota Johnson in Saint Laurent
Dakota’s red gown looks beautiful on her! The detailed work on the one sleeve elevates the style quotient of this dress. This is tailored perfectly. The accessories and makeup are on point but I love that she went with a ponytail!
Felicity Jones in Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen
She may have not won an Oscar this year, but she definitely won every fashionista’s approval with this ensemble! The pale metallic grey dress is marvellous. The detail on the bodice and the neck is beautiful! The hair pulled up and the makeup was flawlessly done.
Jennifer Lopez in Elie Saab
Is she REALLY in her 40s? This nudey blush princess ball gown looks amazing on Jen! The embellished work on the dress is exquisite. I love that she went with a pony tail and pink makeup. Seriously, JLo looks amazing!
Anna Faris in Zuhair Murad
Anna Faris looks so adorably pretty in this icy white embellished strapless flowy gown. She is someone who is starting to make an impact on the red carpet. The belt and the clutch match perfectly with her dress. She keeps it simple with the hair and makeup.
Cate Blanchett in John Galliano
And this is how you wear a simple black gown to the Oscars! The sleeveless column dress with a tiny train is gorgeous but what elevates this outfit? The blue layered statement necklace. The hair and the makeup was super simple, which is perfect for this kind of ensemble!
Julianne Moore in Custom Chanel
This was her year. Every award show she went to, she was dressed to impress. Chanel did a great job on this artistic gown for Julianne! The colour, the cut, the exquisite detailed work and the tiny train is all perfectly done. The bold lip and the hair pulled back finishes this amazing look.
My Worst Dressed of the night?
Nicole Kidman
All I really have to say about this dress is…Why? The red belt is out-of-place and reminds me of duct tape. The colour of this gown is too disco ball like and her clutch doesn’t go with it at all. Better luck next time, Nicole!
