How To Shop At Sephora

giphy33So you want to know how to shop at Sephora? Here are a few things I’ve learned since I practically live there (lolz):

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A LIST because if you go in without one you will..(I’m being thousand percent real here)…end up purchasing things you do not need solely because it swatches gorgeously on your hands!

If you’re going in without a list…I got you. Make sure you connect to the WIFI at Sephora (it’s legit free at all their locations) so that you can quickly google reviews…or go to your favourite bookmarked blog to see …*ahem*

Navigating through Sephora is literally like a fun maze. There are multiple brands and products everywhere…SO…

ASK FOR HELP. The Sephora beauty experts that work there are geniuses (shout out to Sephora Square One for ALWAYS holding it down for me). You can ask them anything and they will always have immense knowledge of the items. Like seriously, what is non-touring? Why do I need to strobe!?

Being at a Sephora is an emotional roller coaster (one that I enjoy tbh). For example (this really happened): I went to a Sephora to purchase Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Liquid Lipstick in Heathers. I swatched it and fell in love…only to be told it was sold out in store…and then I realized it’s okay, I can order it online on their website.

Take advantage of their Skin IQ tester thingamabob (I’m sure there’s some scientific name). It literally matches to the closest shade in any foundation at Sephora. This makes it easier for the clerks and you to find the perfect foundation/concealer match!

Sign up for their Beauty Insiders program! Bruh, what you waiting for? It’s free and you get access to products and sales and freebies….AND A BIRTHDAY GIFT!

Be prepared to stand in line for….a while. (You can always order online)

Sephora is notorious for giving out samples for free so ASK! If you’re a commitment phobe about certain products, then this is the perfect alternative for you!

Don’t forget to check out their sale section, whether in store or online. I’ve gotten nail polish for like $3 before..which normally retails for $12. Score.

HAVE FUN! I know it can be overwhelming but if you’re a beauty junkie like me…this place is better than Disneyland.

Review: Origins Original Skin Retexturizing Rose Clay Mask

Hello Dolls! If you haven’t read my previous blog post, then you can do so right here! As always, follow me on all my socials by searching “Daff Diaries” or click the links on the right hand side of this blog page.

Okay, face masks were and still are the IT thing. Everywhere I went, everyone would be asking me about face masks or telling me about the face masks they’ve tried. Of course, in true Daff Diaries manner, I made a trip to my local Sephora to pick up a few to see what the rage was all about…and now I’ve got a review for you!

First Impressions

When the worker at Sephora pointed me towards their face masks, I knew that there was one brand that I can always trust…and that’s Origins (remember how obsessed I was with THIS). Well, of course I had to go ahead and see what Origins had to offer. They had plenty but this was the one I gravitated towards the most. I have combination oily skin that’s also sensitive; so all I really wanted my face mask to do was not strip my face of moisture but still clean everything out. Also, I wanted that oh-so-glowy-face. This particular one made claims that it could do it all, including minimizing my pores (YES!). As I opened the bottle to smell it, I was mesmerized. It smells amazing. It’s got rose clay, which is great because clay is supposed to attract the dirt out of your skin. It’s also got Canadian Willow herb (which I’m assuming smells amazing because this product smells great) along with jojoba beads to exfoliate your skin (you can read more on their website). This product’s first impression for me was great and I couldn’t wait to go and try it!

Product Application & Result

I absolutely love the texture of this face mask. Even though it’s got jojoba beads to exfoliate, the formula/texture isn’t grainy at all. In fact, it’s smooth and very simple to apply on your face. I applied a thin layer and waited the 10 minutes the product recommends for it dry. It dried really fast and I could feel my face already tightening. Washing this product off was super easy. All you need is your fingers to gently massage the face mask off and warm water. Nothing else. So easy! The results were amazing. My first application of this product left me with super smooth, glowy and radiant skin! Although my pores didn’t minimize completely at first application, by the third application (I use this once a week), I could see my pores begin to vanish. I don’t think I’ve gotten this many compliments on my skin ever! Makeup application was easy (the next day) and my face looked healthier than ever!

Product Application Rating: 10/10

Price, availability and accessibility

As mentioned, I purchased mine at Sephora for $32 (CDN) and it’s worth EVERY single penny!!

Final Verdict

This is a perfect face mask for anyone looking to try a face mask! Every claim made by this product is true! Not only was I left with the best skin of my life, it didn’t seem to irritate my super sensitive combination oily skin (SCORE)!

Overall Rating: 10/10

Shopping Diaries: Sephora Haul

It was the annual Spring VIB sale again and you know what that means in my world? I’m back with another Sephora Haul! (If you want to check out some of the previous Sephora hauls I blogged about, then type “sephora haul” in the search bar on my blog!)

Below you will find the list of things I bought & why I bought them. As always, follow me on everything and anything (look at the right side of this blog page? Please & thank you):

  1. Origins Original Skin Retexturizing mask with Rose Clay: I’ve been on the hunt to try out new and different types of face masks. I figured that since a lot of people have said good things about this, I should give it a whirl!
  2. NARS Larger than life eye liner in Via Veneto: I’m a huge fan of the these liners. I tried a deluxe sample size of this black liner and fell in love so of course I had to purchase this (you know me and black eye liners…).
  3. Tarte’s Tarteguard 30 moisturizing sunscreen lotion: I repurchased this item because it really is one of the best facial sunscreens I have ever used and also because I scooped up every little bit from my previous bottle…
  4. NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint in Annapurna: I have never used a tinted moisturizer…can you believe that? So I decided to try this one out!
  5. Sephora Pro Flawless airbrush brush: A sephora makeup artist used this on me and I cannot explain to you how flawless my skin looked. I’m usually not a sucker for brushes because I rely on my Beauty Blender, but this brush was as good as that!
  6. Tarte’s Tartelette in Bloom Palette (I bought this before the sale but decided to add it in here): I loved the original palette and I figured I couldn’t go wrong with a part 2 of this line!

Skin Care Diaries: The Clinique 3-step

A few years ago, I was struggling to find the perfect skin care regiment. I had been switching back and forth between different skin care products without any sort of positive effect on my skin. It seemed like I had tried everything and anything yet I wasn’t completely happy with it. Products were either too greasy on my skin or not moisturizing enough, which resulted in dry flaky bits. So after a lot of research and countless googling, I decided to give the Clinique 3-step skin care regiment a try. I have been using this for the past few years and here are my thoughts about it!

What is it?

The Clinique 3-step skin care system is a skin care regiment that consists of cleansing, exfoliation and moisturizing. According to Clinique, these 3 basic steps work hand in hand together to help you achieve the best skin possible. So when I went to the Clinique counter, they asked me a series of questions to determine what type of skin I had. This is mainly because Clinique offers different products for different types of skin (types 1-4). After going through the questionnaire process, it was determined that I had combination oily skin. This meant that in Clinique’s dictionary of skin types, I was a number 3. I needed enough moisture in my skin without overdoing it. That is probably the reason why generic skin care products I was trying earlier weren’t really giving me any positive effects. You use the 3-step process once in the morning and once at night.

The 3-step process

Step 1: Cleansing

Since I have extremely sensitive skin, I decided to go with the milder version of the facial soap. Usually, with the type 3 skin type, they advise you to use the cleanser for oily skin but I opted for the milder version. Here’s my review on it. This is your basic cleansing step, where you use water and a cleanser to remove any dirt, oil, or makeup. This creates a clean surface for the next step!

Step 2: Exfoliating

This step is where you use the toner to tone and remove any excess oil/imperfections from your skin as well as to prep your skin for the next step, so that your moisturizer seeps deep into your skin. Here’s my review on the Type 3 exfoliating toner. This particular toner has been created for combination oily skin types.

Step 3: Moisturizer

This is a self-explanatory step. Since I have combination oily skin, I use the gel version of this moisturizer. This keeps my skin moisturized all day long without making it greasy. You can read my review here. This moisturizer is lightweight and perfect for using under makeup.

My Verdict?

As I’ve said, I’ve used this for a couple of years now and I absolutely love it! This 3 step process changed my skin’s life for the better. My skin was softer, smoother, and just more alive after using this 3 step. I have tried other skin care products in between but nothing compares to this. If you haven’t tried this 3-step skin care regiment, I highly recommend you do so! Go into your Clinique counter and speak to the person there and they will walk you through it perfectly! I love that Clinique’s line offers products that are clinically tested, hypoallergenic and fragrance free! It’s also oil free which is a plus point for someone with my skin type. I barely get any dry or oily spots on my skin now, which I think is because I’ve been using this consistently for a while. Also, this regiment is perfect for using under any type of makeup. It’s the perfect skin care primer before makeup! If you’re out looking for a new skin care regiment, THIS IS IT!

Review: Fresh’s Sugar Lip Polish

IMG_4445 IMG_4443

I think that whenever we focus on skin care, we tend to forget about the lips! Especially in the wintertime, it’s so important to take good care of your lips. I’m a huge lip balm junkie, so I make sure to always carry a lip balm with me all the time, no matter the season. A couple of years ago, I was watching some YouTube videos and I came across a product recommendation video for this particular product. Supposedly, using a lip scrub is equally as important as using a daily lip balm! I figured that I had to give it a try to see what this was all about. I love Fresh’s sugar lip balm, so I knew this would be a pretty good product.

What’s it all about?

Fresh’s Sugar Lip Polish is a sweet exfoliating treatment scrub that leaves your lips soft and smooth. The formula of this product is enriched with real brown sugar crystals. When applied to your lips, these crystals gently exfoliate to buff away dry flakes, leaving you with a soft and smooth finish. According to its makers, it nourishes the lips with quick-absorbing meadowfoam seed, jojoba seed and grape seed oils while shea butter provides long-lasting moisture. You are left with smooth, protected and hydrated lips. Also, there’s a lemony sugar fragrance to it.

My Verdict?

This is the best exfoliating lip scrub I have ever used. Seriously, not only does it exfoliate your lips perfectly, it also leaves them incredibly soft! Firstly, this product is very easy to use and doesn’t irritate my lips. The sugar crystals aren’t harsh when applied! I use a cotton swab to apply his product because it’s super easy and I use this twice a week. Once I’m done using this product, I usually apply a lip balm right after to seal the moisture in. Secondly, the dead flakes on my lips are literally buffed away perfectly and I’m left with super smooth lips! Lastly, my lips are nowhere near dry after the application of this product. The oils in the formula moisturize my lips really well! All in all, this is an incredible product. It does everything it claims to do and even more. My lips have never felt better, smoother or softer! At $26 (CDN), it’s worth every little bit of your money. The size of this scrub is pretty good given it’s price. You don’t really have to use a lot of the product and it’ll last you a while (as you can see, I’ve had this for a couple of months now and I use it twice a week). This product is for anyone who’s trying to permanently get rid of dry flakes on their lips! It really does work and you see the effects in the long run! I purchased this at my local Sephora!

Review: Aveeno Fresh Essentials Daily Exfoliating Scrub

IMG_4147 IMG_4148

Looking for an exfoliating scrub for your face, which you can use on a daily basis? Never fear, Aveeno is here to help (PS did you know that Jen Aniston is the face of Aveeno?). Aveeno’s Fresh Essentials Daily Exfoliating Scrub is a daily gentle face scrub infused with Active Naturals anti-oxidant Southernwood Extract, which is supposed to help reveal fresher looking, smoother skin and prepares you for your daily moisturizer. On that note, have you read my review on this very skin care line’s daily moisturizer? If not you can do that here. According to its makers, this exfoliating scrub is infused with a natural luffa type beads and coconut pulp to remove dead skin cells. This oil free formula polishes away pore-clogging impurities that can lead to break outs. So after a month’s use of this product, what was my final verdict?

My verdict?

I’ve been a true Clinique skin care user for years, so when I’m given the opportunity to try different face washes, I really look forward to it. I wasn’t really expecting much from this scrub and figured that it was just going to be like any other drugstore scrub, but little was I wrong! This is a pretty good. Since I have sensitive skin, I used this scrub every other day with the use of my Clarisonic and I saw pretty decent results. Now this line from Aveeno is meant to revive dull/tired looking skin. I can safely say that it did do that every time I used this scrub. It polished away any dead skin cells and it cleared out some of my blackheads, which was a huge plus. The texture and formula of this scrub is pretty good. It’s like any other scrub, it’s got little particle scrubbers that are very gentle on my skin. It didn’t irritate or scratch my skin. After rinsing the scrub off my face, my skin wasn’t dry nor did it feel tight. It felt smooth, soft and moisturized, which I was not expecting from this scrub at all. Will I purchase this product? Probably, so far I love what it has done for my skin. In fact this whole Aveeno Fresh Essentials line, has been a life saver for my skin this winter. It’s made my dull/tired looking skin look more refreshed and alive! With that being said, the one thing I didn’t like about this scrub was the fragrance. It’s a little strong but because it did a great job on my skin, I was able to look past it. At $12.99 (CDN), this product is a steal! You really are getting a good face scrub for the price. You can purchase this at any drugstore!

Happy Shopping Dolls! x

PS. Here’s my review on this skin care line’s night cream!

  • Little scrubbers aren’t irritating on the skin, doesn’t tug
  • Cleans out pores and blackheads as well as dead skin cells
  • Leaves your skin smooth, soft and moisturized
  • Oil free/hypoallergenic
  • Price

  • Fragrance is pretty strong

Rating: 8.5/10 (This is a pretty good face scrub that does what its meant to do!)

*Disclaimer: This product was sent to me to try out. My honest opinion has been formulated after using this product for a few weeks and the PR company has not influenced that in any way or form.*
