Review: Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick in Spanked, S1ngle & Candy Venom

fullsizeoutput_9d7

Okay, I know if you read this blog on the reg…then you’re already aware that Fenty Beauty has very quickly become my favourite beauty brand of all time. Every product I try, I am instantly impressed. From their face primer to their countour sticks and everything in between, RiRi knows whats good.

fullsizeoutput_9d8.jpeg

What is it: A super slim matte lipstick that is super comfortable on the lips, long wearing, super pigmented and super weightless. I picked up the shades Spanked, S1ngle & Candy Venom. Candy Venom is a bright magenta pink (SO gorg). Spanked is a nude dusty rose colour and S1ngle is descried as a blushing nude. Can I also say, the names of these lipsticks are too good!

fullsizeoutput_9da.jpeg

The Good: Y’all my lips have never been so blessed (LOL). Seriously, I don’t think I’ve felt this way about a lipstick release in a LONG time. The formula of these lipsticks are incredible. When you apply it, it almost feels as though the lipstick is hugging your lips. It’s soft and not heavy at all. In fact, there have been times when I’ve had any of these 3 shades on and I’ve forgotten I’m wearing lipstick. The colour pay off is fantastic. One swipe and you get the colour without any fuss. For a matte lipstick, these are SUPER creamy. It’s really moisturizing and I’m all about this. The packaging is also one of my favourites, especially for travel. It’s super skinny and will fit literally anywhere without feeling bulky. Spanked is perfect for a night out with the girls or date night. S1ngle is great for work or on those days you just want something on your lips without any hassle. Candy Venom is perfect for nights out when you want to make your presence known without trying hard! These products are pretty long wearing on the lips. I’ll be honest, I don’t think it compares to Stunna Lip paint BUT these do stay on your lips for a while. You will need to reapply it but not more than maybe once (that’s all I needed to get through a whole day at work). I also want to point out the design of the lipstick itself. It’s designed to be easy to apply on your lips without needing to use a lip liner. How you ask?  Apply normally to the bottom lip and then turn the lipstick with the short end up to apply to your upper lip. Trust me it works. Lastly, the price of these lipsticks are great. $23 (CDN) is a steal for beauty brand that’s doing incredibly well!

The Bad: N-O-T-H-I-N-G!

Overall Rating: 10/10 (I can’t WAIT to grab more shades! You can pick yours up at your local Sephora)

Review: MILK MAKEUP Blur Stick

fullsizeoutput_9c7

When I tried this at Sephora, I was stunned. I mean, if it can make my hand look like it had an instagram filter on it, then it for sure will do wonders for my face….right?

IMG_4702

What is it: This blur-stick by Milk Makeup is exactly what it says it is…a blur stick. It’s a silicone free solid that is meant to minimize the appearance of fine lines, pores and any imperfections. As the creators say, it gives you a smooth invisible matte finish on every skin tone. You can use it as a primer. It’s colourless and a universal face filter. It’s oil-free as well, making it perfect for combination oily skin. You can purchase it at Sephora for $43 (CDN).

IMG_4700

The Good: So when I tried this on my face the first time, I noticed something. The stick wasn’t creamy at all. In fact, it was a lot drier than I thought. So you definitely need to warm the product up on your hands before you apply on your face. I love the idea of the primer/blur stick being a stick because it’s super easy to apply. When I applied it on my face, I saw that it definitely did blur it out for a soft focus finish. It didn’t completely eliminate my pores but I mean I haven’t come across a product that does that completely yet (do you guys know any?). This product is good on its own…but I have combination oily skin, so it worked for me. I love pairing it with the Benefit Porefessional and then wearing a foundation on top. I found that it gave me the best “air brush” results. I love the packaging and the whole concept of this product.

IMG_4701

The Bad: I’m not sure how anyone with dry skin will be able to make this work because it definitely was not creamy. If you just apply it straight from the stick (without warming it), then your makeup will cake because the formula is super dry. If you have oily skin, then this primer is for you! Other than that, I wouldn’t tell anyone to write this product off just yet. I have combination oily skin and it worked fine for me. This is a product you definitely want to try at some point but you won’t be completely missing out if you don’t want to (LOL).

My Favourite Contour Palettes

fullsizeoutput_61e

I will be the first one to admit that I cannot contour properly. You’ll always find me making fishy faces or staring at my Instagram feed trying to figure out how to perfectly contour. But what I will say is these 5 palettes have helped me big time. I know I’m SO late to the contouring game (but honestly, who FOLLOWS trends right? It’s all about making them) but here are 5 of my favourite contour palettes that work best for a novice like me!

  1. Sleek Makeup’s Cream Contour Kit in Medium: I picked this up at Ulta and I am in love with how simple and easy it is to use. It’s also the cheapest palette out of these and my wallet cannot be any happier!
  2. Urban Decay’s Shape Shifter in Medium Dark: This impulse buy ended up being one of my favourite UD purchases in a long time. This is perfect for travel because it has both cream and powder contour shades plus a gorgeous highlight shade!
  3. Kat Von D’s Shade+Light Palette: This is the holy grail of contour products. These powders feel like butter and blend perfectly on your skin. You can also use the lighter shades to bake!
  4. Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit in Medium to Tan: This was one of my first ever contour palettes I had ever purchased and I always go back to it. I love that it’s buildable and perfect for my skin tone!
  5. NARS Contour Blush in Paloma: This one is my favourite for everyday mainly because it’s super simple to use and it looks like I contoured without even trying (that’s how you’re supposed to rock this trend right? lolz).

Review: MAC Cosmetics’ Fashion Fanatic Eyeshadow Palette

fullsizeoutput_359

MAC is killing the makeup game with their releases lately. This summer, they released a MAC Girls line where they created limited edition eyeshadow palettes based on different personalities. I will be reviewing 3 of the 6 palettes and this one is the Fashion Fanatic palette for the fashion forward girl who loves bold and unique shades!

fullsizeoutput_35a

What’s in the palette:  Like all the palettes MAC has put out in this GIRLS line, this palette includes 8 eyeshadows in different finishes and one highlighter. This palette includes daring bold and unique shades! Must Have It is an orangey bronzey opalescent highlighter. Mad Mod & Outfitted are the shimmery glitter shade in this palette (which are OH SO GORG!). On the Hip Side, Wild Card, & Fashion Fanatic are the creamy mattes. Shop, Shop, Shop, Style & Influencer and Totally fierce are your satiny pearl shades. The package is super sleek and includes a mirror, which is one of my favourite things about any palette.

fullsizeoutput_366

The Good: OMG I love everything about this palette. The names, the shades and the packaging scream Daff Diaries (lolz). No really, this is probably my favourite MAC Girls Palette. I love how the shades, despite being bold and not from the same shade range, compliment one another. The formula of these shades are so silky smooth. The shadows and the highlighter glide on so beautifully. And when you foil some of the lighter shades, they look stunning on the lids! Style & Influence is probably my favourite shade from this palette. I love how pretty the lilac is! The shimmery shades are gorgeous too! Another thing I love about this palette is the outer packaging! It’s so chic! This palette can be used to create so many different looks using multiple shades.

The Bad:  As with all the MAC Girls palettes, there are some shades which require you to foil them to get the true colour payoff. This is not a horrible thing, it’s just time-consuming which can be an issue for some. To Foil: Spritz your shadow brush with Fix+ and then dip you brush into the lighter shades. You will get amazing colour payoff with that technique!

Where you can get it: Any MAC retailer or MAC store for $48 (CDN).

Review: MAC Cosmetics’ Prissy Princess Eyeshadow Palette

fullsizeoutput_360

Did you know MAC came out with a GIRLS line this summer and based 6 eyeshadow palettes on different personalities of women? Well fear not, that’s why you have me! I will be reviewing 3 of the 6 palettes and this one is the Prissy Princess palette filled with the prettiest fairy tale-esque shades!

fullsizeoutput_361

What’s in the palette: Like all the palettes MAC has put out in this GIRLS line, this palette includes 8 eyeshadows in different finishes and one highlighter. This palette is filled with neutral pinks, taupes, browns and greys. The colours are just so pretty!  She’s a Rainbow (what an adorable name) is a pearly rose gold opalescent highlighter. Too Good To Be True is the glittery shimmer shade in this palette (probably one of my favs in this palette). Prissy Princess, Colour Me Spoiled and Spoil Yourself are the creamy matte shades. Fabness, Sweet Tart, Eternal Optimist and Good Girl & U Know It are the satiny pearly shades. The package is super sleek and includes a mirror, which is one of my favourite things about any palette.

fullsizeoutput_363

The Good: I feel like this palette was made for me. I love the names, I love the shades…I love everything about this palette. The neutral shades are perfect for the day and you can definitely use a few of these shades for your nighttime look too! The highlighter is pretty. As you can see, this is practically your pretty…girl next door palette filled with shades you just can’t hate! The formula of these shades are so buttery smooth! They glide on to your lids without any fuss and when some of the shades are foiled, the colour pay off is so intense!

The Bad: I love the colours of the packaging BUT the name of the palette, even though it’s in huge block letters, isn’t supper prominent. I wish Prissy Princess was written in a hot pink colour but that’s the only downside (if I’m being extra critical). Again, if you’ve my review about the other palettes in this line, you already know that there are a few shades in the palette which don’t have the best colour payoff unless the shadows are foiled.

Where you can get it: Any MAC retailer or MAC store for $48 (CDN).

Review: MAC Cosmetics’ Basic Bitch Eyeshadow Palette

fullsizeoutput_367

I bet you’re thinking…why did MAC just name a palette Basic Bitch? Don’t worry, I thought the same thing too. As a part of MAC’s Girls line, MAC released 6 limited edition “personality” eye shadow palettes. I will be reviewing 3 of the 6 palettes and this is the most talked about one….the Basic Bitch palette.

fullsizeoutput_356

What’s in the palette: This palette is filled with 8 eye shadows, which range from shimmers to mattes, and a highlighter. This palette is filled with greys, plums and purples…perfect for a smoky eye! The highlighter in Love this bitch (lolz) is a frosted baby pink highlighter. Sly Girl & Tattle-Tale (probably two of my favourite shimmer shades by MAC) are micro-glitter shimmering shades. Hell in Heels & Gameplayer are your creamy mattes. Me, Me, Me, Ms. Personality, Big White Lie and Text Me Later are satin shades. The packaging is pretty sleek and includes a mirror.

fullsizeoutput_355

The Good: Even past the controversy, I love everything about this palette. Majority of the shades are gorgeous on my lids and the names are super fun! I’m assuming MAC believes that the average basic bitch (I feel so strange writing the B word on my very G rated blog, but you know that’s life) is one that wants to have a smoky eye all the time. The formula of these shadows and the one highlighter are super-duper silky smooth. It wasn’t powdery when I swatched them and I loved how they just glided on without any fuss. The opacity is pretty decent, although some shades require you to pack on the shadow, majority of the shades are pretty opaque.

The Bad: So you can probably tell by the swatches that the colour pay off isn’t the best for some of the shades in this palette. BUT I will say the shades which didn’t have full opacity on first swatch, were super opaque when I spritzed my shadow brush with Fix+ to foil the shadows. They looked incredibly gorgeous. But aside from that, this palette is pretty awesome! I can see the name of this palette being an issue for a few and I wish the name wasn’t SO big on the palette.

Where you can get it: Any MAC retailer or MAC store for $48 (CDN).
