Makeup Diaries: The Matte Sultry Eye

IMG_5286 IMG_5271

So a little while ago, I posted a review about the Urban Decay Naked Basics palette (which you can read about right here) and I figured I’d share an eye look that I wear constantly. It’s easy, simple, and quick. Remember, you can always swap out colours to make it more unique to your taste. Also, if you aren’t following me on my various social media accounts then feel free to do so (Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Pinterest).

Have a fun time recreating this look dolls! x

1) Apply an eye shadow primer of your choice on to your entire eyelid. I’m using MAC’s Paint Pot in Groundwork.

2) Take the shade “W.O.S.” and apply all over your eyelid, extending to your brow bone.

3) With a crease brush, take the shade “Faint” and apply on to the crease area, extending it to the outer corners of your eyelids. Make sure to blend into your brow bone and soften any harsh lines.

4) Take a black liner of your choice and line your eyes, staying close to the lash line. I’m using Urban Decay’s 24/7 liner in Zero. Also, don’t forget to line your waterline with the same liner.

5) Take a smudger brush and dip into the shade “Crave” and trace over the line you just created with your eyeliner. Smudge the liner out. This will create a smoky sultry effect.

6) Take a volumizing mascara of your choice and apply two coats to your lashes. I’m using Buxom’s Buxom Lash Waterproof mascara. Fill in your brows and set it. I’m using Maybelline’s Brow drama in clear.

7) Take a highlight colour of your choice and highlight your brow bone. I used “W.O.S.”. Clean off any excess fall out with a clean brush.

Review: Urban Decay’s Naked Basics Palette

IMG_3882IMG_3883

By now, I think everyone knows that Urban Decay has to be one of my favourite makeup brands (just search the tags on my blog and you’ll know why). So it’s only right that I give you another Urban Decay product review! This particular product I had purchased during my VIB Sephora Haul and I was excited to try this out because I had heard so much about it. I’m a huge sucker for eye shadow palettes so this was pretty intriguing to me. This is an all-matte eye shadow palette that features six neutral shadows that can be worn during the day and night. They aren’t all exclusive shades (you can purchase them on its own or in other palettes but there are 4 in there that are “never before seen”). The shadows are supposed to be versatile, wearable, neutral and have amazing pigmentation. According to Urban Decay, all six of these shadows have a new pigment infusion system, which gives every shade its velvety texture, rich colour, serious staying power and blendability.

The Colours

IMG_3897

  1. Venus: Soft, off white demi matte (This is the only shade that’s a little bit more sheeny than the others, making this perfect for a highlight colour)
  2. Foxy: Light yellow cream (I use this as a highlight colour as well as on my inner corner of the eyelids)
  3. Walk Of Shame: Light peach (I use this as a base for all over my lids)
  4. Naked 2: Milk chocolate-brown (I use this with WOS for a daytime eye look for work)
  5. Faint: Chocolate brown (I use this on my crease and outer corner of the lids, depending on the eye look)
  6. Crave: Jet Black brownish black (I use this as a liner, for a smoky eye and everything in between!)

My Verdict?

You know what? I feel like whenever I really like an eye shadow palette and I’m reviewing it for my blog, I always say it is “the best” and what not (and trust me, it is my honest opinion). But, after using this eye shadow palette for four months now…I can seriously say this has to be one of the best matte eye shadow palettes I have ever used. It really doesn’t compare to all my other favourites and I find I reach for this one the most! First of all, the quality of these eye shadows are impeccable. Which is completely understandable since it is made by Urban Decay. Their eye shadows have never disappointed me. The texture is great for a matte eye shadow. The formula isn’t drying and with a good eye shadow primer, this doesn’t move at all and there’s no fall out. Second of all, I love the colour range for this palette. It has everything from a light highlight shade to a dark black shadow (perfect for a smoky eye). I find myself using all the shades and no specific one has been left out. The colours are also really pigmented and because of its velvety texture the colours blend really well with one another. Thirdly, the packaging of this palette is great for travel and your makeup bag. It’s sleek, slim and very compact. It comes with a mirror, which is always a plus point for me with any eye shadow palette. Lastly, I love this palette mainly because it’s so versatile. It’s perfect for your workplace and it’s perfect for a night out. The shadows in this palette can be used to transition your day-to-night eye look (which is also another thing I look for in an eye palette). All in all, this seriously is one eye shadow palette I think everyone should own because the colours are neutral and perfect for any skin tone (perfect gift alert). Also, this is a great palette for someone who is just dabbling into the world of eye shadow. Everything about this palette is great! You can purchase this at any Urban Decay retailer. I got mine at Sephora for $34 (CDN).

Pros:

  • Versatile, perfect for all skin tones
  • Highly pigmented colours
  • Blends well, rich velvety texture
  • All matte palette
  • Cute packaging, comes with a mirror

Cons:

  • Nothing at all (trust me I tried to find something wrong with this)

Rating: 10/10 (I’m pretty sure if I could rate this higher I probably would. Everyone should own this neutral palette because it really is perfect!)

Sephora VIB Haul

IMG_3078IMG_3079

The annual Sephora VIB Sale took place this past weekend and anyone who knows me, knows that this is the one day I wait for every year (next to my birthday & Boxing Day of course). If you want to know more about the Sephora Beauty Insider Program & how to score an invite to this sale, click here. Usually, I go in with a long list of items that I want to stock up on. This time around, I made a list of things I had either tried in sample size & loved or was dying to try. I made two trips to Sephora to purchase my goodies and I can’t wait to try all of them out in the next few weeks & months! Below is a list of the things I purchased and why I purchased them:

  1. Bumble & Bumble’s Non Stop Softness Set: I purchased this because the invisible hair oil has had rave reviews ever since its debut. It also won the coveted Allure’s best awards 2014, so of course I had to pick this set up. You get the full size hair oil with the corresponding deluxe size shampoo and conditioner (all for the price of the full-sized hair oil).
  2. Marc Jacobs’ The Sky-Liner Set: As everyone is already aware, I have quite an unhealthy obsession with anything Marc Jacobs. I absolutely love the MJ Beauty line and have been dying to try these gel eye liners out for a while now. These liners are supposedly amazing because of its incredible staying power. I swatched this set and fell in love with the range of colours, which are perfect for this holiday season!
  3. Urban Decay’s Vice 3 Palette: I own the first two Vice Palettes and I loved them, so it was only right for me to purchase the 3rd one! These colours are gorgeous and Urban Decay’s quality of shadows have never disappointed me. I love that this time around you get a cute make up bag which fits the Palette perfectly with it!
  4. Tarte’s Pin Up Girl Blush Palette (currently sold out at Sephora & it’s limited edition so not sure if it’ll be back): This blush palette has to be one of the best buys of the Holiday season. I had purchased the one last year and fell in love with the colours. So this year when I went in and saw a whole set of new colours, I had to get this one too! This palette is so cute, it’s like a mini clutch and it has two adorable hair clips that come with it (& you know you can’t go with that).
  5. Bumble & Bumble’s Make it Big Set: This was one thing that was on my list to get! I had tried the thickening hairspray earlier and I fell in love with it. This boxed set is great because you get the full size hairspray with the corresponding shampoo/conditioner (which I have never tried!) all for the price of the full-sized hairspray. I’m very impressed with B&B’s holiday lineup this year!
  6. Sephora Favourites Give Me More Lip Set: I instantly fell in love with this set when I saw it. It’s got a nice serving of your nudes, berries, reds and pinks all in one box! You get a few full sized products along with deluxe sized products (which is find with me because I get to try different brands before I commit to them).
  7. Urban Decay’s Little Perversions Set: This is probably my favourite purchase. Urban Decay’s perversion liners are the blackest liners I have ever tried. This set contains different versions of the liner as well as the mascara/mascara primer. I had to pick this up because everyone knows you can’t have enough black liners!
  8. Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Bachelorette: This is one of the best liquid lipsticks I have ever tried and initially I went in looking for the shade Lolita (which is supposedly sold out everywhere) but picked up Bachelorette instead. The staying power of these lipsticks are insanely amazing. It is food, drink and kiss proof.
  9. Urban Decay’s Naked Basics 1: This purchase was made on a whim. I have been battling with whether or not I should get this. The reviews are great but I still was unsure because I already own all 3 of the naked palettes. The fact that the shadows are matte all in one palette is what swayed me to get this!
