Review: Huda Beauty’s Liquid Matte Lipstick

Okay, y’all been waiting for this one I know. I FINALLY got my hands on these liquid matte lipsticks by Huda Beauty! If you don’t know who she is or her brand, then you can just google it and find out how much of a mogul she has become (seriously that girl has built an epic brand…slay!). These matte liquid lipsticks were one of the products launched and I must say, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on these.

First Impressions

Can we please talk about how pretty the boxes are? Unlike other liquid lipsticks, these come in a slide out box (hope that makes sense). As you can see, the shade of the lipstick is labelled on the side with the colour name. On top of the box, you see lips with that exact lip shade on; biting on to the lipstick (talk about a beautiful illusion…so cool).  Not only that, the box has all her social media accounts listed (I mean she did become famous because of that). The lipstick bottle is frosted and has the logo on it. The brush applicator is just like any other liquid lipstick applicator.

Product Formula

I’ve tried many liquid lipsticks and let me tell you how impressed I am by these babies. Seriously, the consistency of these liquid lippies aren’t super thick yet when you apply them to your lips, it’s super pigmented. You do have to wait about 30-45 seconds for it to dry on your lips, which is not an issue because once it’s dry, there’s literally no transfer of colour anywhere. I wore each of the shades I’m going to mention for more than a few hours and believe me, I purposely did everything possible to see if these lipsticks would budge. I was astonished. Nothing came off. Nothing faded. It literally felt like magic on my lips. I ate an entire buffet meal, drank tons of coffee and bit my lip a few times…and NOTHING CAME OFF!!!!!! I love the vanilla-ish scent (very reminiscent of MAC) but that’s just an added bonus. So the main question you’re probably dying to ask me as you read this is: Did it dry out your lips? No BUT I did layer it on lip balm…so I’m not sure if that made a difference. It felt really comfortable on my lips and I didn’t need to reapply lip balm or even the lipstick.

Product Application

Applying it was super easy. It’s exactly like how you would apply any other liquid lipstick. I do have one tip though, I tend to quickly apply my lipsticks (no matter the product) and with this one I felt like I needed to take an extra minute or two to make sure I filled my lips properly (mind you, I didn’t use a lip liner). I will say this though, you do not need more than ONE coat of this on your lips to get the true lipstick colour. One issue I encountered was the fact that after I applied this for the FIRST time, I didn’t wait the 30-45 seconds and found traces of the lipstick on my teeth (ew, no one likes that…I do have a hack for this…which I’ll share soon).

Swatches

I made this nifty video to show you the swatches but I also included the pics here. I’m going to breakdown each shade and give a rating based on the pigmentation only. Also, can I point out the fact that these liquid lipsticks (er rather every Huda Beauty product out there) have such adorable names! Also, as the name suggests, all of these liquid lipsticks are matte. Even though when you swatch them on your lips, it looks a bit satiny…it dries to a matte finish.

Heartbreaker: It’s a bright red. I absolutely love this one the most. Online, it looked like your typical red but it’s a bright red and this looks really nice on my skin tone.             Rating: 10/10

Bombshell: This is your typical pinkish nude. I’d say this one is the same shade of my lips but a tad bit lighter, which makes this perfect for the workplace. With this particular one, I found that it faded a TINY bit after the 10 hour mark. Rating: 9.5/10

Famous: This one’s a dark plummy red. I’d say if you’re looking for the perfect dark pout, then this is it. With one swipe, I got the perfect dark pout I’ve always wanted.            Rating: 10/10

Trophy Wife: It’s a perfect dusty rosey mauve (woah loads of descriptions). I just love everything about this shade and I find that this looks amazing on any skin tone.       Rating: 10/10

Cheerleader: I think the best way to describe this as a blood-red. It’s beautiful and just your gorgeous everyday red! Rating: 10/10

Price, Availability & Accessibility

These are only available online on Sephora or her own website for a cool $26 a pop (CDN). These are easily accessible through Sephora (I had them 4 days after I ordered them). I think the price is absolutely worth it for these shades. I can’t wait to order more in the future.

Final Verdict

LOVE LOVE LOVE (I mean if you’ve made it this far in my review, then you already know I love these). If you’re looking for a gift for your friends or even yourself, then these are it! Also, this is a great addition to any lipstick lovers lipstick closet!
