Review: MAC’s Hyper Real Glow in Flash+Awe & Get It Glowin’

fullsizeoutput_ea5

When MAC finally decided to come out with highlighter palettes, I wasn’t sure of what to expect. Individually, MAC highlighters can often be a hit or a miss for me so I was a little skeptical. I finally got my hands on both of these palettes and I’m here with a review of BOTH the palettes for you!

IMG_9119 2

What is it: MAC cosmetics put out two highlighter palettes, one in a pink shade zone and the other in a gold shade zone. Each palette comes with three shades and a mirror (score, you know how much I love my palettes to always have mirrors). Hyper Real Glow in Flash+Awe is a pinky/champagne highlighter palette. Hyper Real Glow in Get it Glowin’ is a golden highlighter palette. Both palettes claim to have formulas that will work for any skin type and tone. Although, the golden palette is geared towards darker skin dolls and the pink palette is for the lighter skin dolls. You can use these shades together or individually to get the most natural glow!

fullsizeoutput_eab

Flash+Awe Shades: Light Of The Party is a flesh toned shimmery peachy pink. Rosy Glow is a medium toned shimmer shell pink. Flash+Awe is a pale pink with silver shimmer.

fullsizeoutput_ea8

Get It Glowin’ Shades: Rosy Cheer is a rich golden bronze with fine gold shimmer. Get it Glowin’ is a peachy nude with fine gold shimmer. Gold Coasting is a champagne gold with gold shimmer.

fullsizeoutput_eaa

The Good: Okay, remember how I said I was skeptical about these palettes at the beginning of this post? Well, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have been skeptical because these highlighters are actually so good! In fact, all six shades did not disappoint! Of course, it’s up to you individually to decide which shade you want to use to highlight what…but I can safely say, each one of these shades looked radiant on my skin tone! The formula of these babies are amazing! It’s buttery soft to touch and I noticed I had zero fall out (even though MAC claims there might be some). Also, because they’re so smooth and soft, it’s incredibly easy to blend! Every time I’ve used any of these highlights, I always get asked what I’m wearing! Not only can you use this to highlight the high points of your face, you can use these as eye shadows (add fix+ and get foiled shadows!). Rosy Cheer can used to highlight your neck and legs too! Rosy Cheer is perfect to add to the centre of your lips when you’re rocking a super matte lip to add some definition. As you can see, I’m all about versatile products especially when you’re paying a pretty high price for these palettes! I love the look of these highlighters on my face. I find them to be natural and not glittery (despite having shimmer). The packaging of this product is pretty sleek! I love how I can slip it into my makeup bag if I’m traveling. All in all, both these palettes are pretty good!

(Flash+Awe Swatches)

The Bad: The price point might be a little bothersome for some. But you don’t have to get both of them, you can get one based on your skin tone!

Overall Rating: 9/10 (you can get yours at MAC for $48 a pop)

Review: Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer in Tan Sand & Light Medium

fullsizeoutput_ce2

You guys, these might be the best concealers I’ve ever used. Tarte’s Shape Tape Contour Concealers have been raved about ever since they were introduced into the beauty world!

fullsizeoutput_cdf

What is it: A full-coverage concealer that brightens and smooths your skin for a flawless matte finish! The reason why it’s called “shape tape” is because these concealers can also be used to contour and literally “shape” your face. It’s perfect for all skin types and skin tones. No matter what your skin problems are, these babies will help you achieve the makeup look you’re looking to create! In fact, they claim you don’t even need to set these concealers at all! Ingredients include mango seed and shea butters that are meant to naturally illuminate your complexion! I picked up the shade Tan Sand and Light Medium. I use Tan Sand during the summer as well as to cover any blemishes. I also use it as an eyeshadow primer and if I want to do a cut-crease look! I use Light Medium under my eyes and as an eyeshadow primer, IF I want brighter eyeshadow colours to pop!

The Good: Y’all. This concealer is amazing. Like I can’t even stress how amazing these are! The formula of these are so creamy. It’s easy to blend and it doesn’t feel like you have anything on! My favourite part about this product has to be the applicator wand! It’s so easy to apply that even someone who knows nothing about concealing and contouring can master it! The other thing I love about this is the fact that it doesn’t move once you’ve applied it. I’ve never had it crease! It also stays on for what seems like forever and I’m all about this! I honestly think everyone should own this concealer. It’s matte. It’s so blendable. It’s perfect. The concealers aren’t watery are very opaque without being cakey!

The Bad: N O T H I N G!

Overall Rating: 10/10 (You can get yourself one at tartecosmetics.com or your local Ulta store for $27, that’s where I got mine!)

Review: Charlotte Tilbury’s Unisex Healthy Glow Hydrating Tint

fullsizeoutput_ce8

I think I’ve found the perfect way to get the ultimate sun-kissed look without the hassle of a self tanner courtesy of Charlotte Tilbury. When the lady at the Charlotte Tilbury counter at Holt Renfrew tried this on me, I had to do a double take. My skin looked like it was transformed into something I had never experienced before…and with that kind of result, I knew I had to have this particular product in my life!

fullsizeoutput_ce4

What is it: The Unisex Healthy Glow is described as an “all-year hydrating summer tint moisturizer”. Now, I wouldn’t really call this a tinted moisturized because it’s a one shade fits all product. When you squeeze the product out, it comes out like a moisturizer. There’s no visible “tint” but when you start working it in your face, it starts adding a tan type glow to it. It truly is magic. This product is unisex and morphs into any skin tone for the perfect natural looking glow! It’s hydrating and has natural moisturizing activates which contain a combination of moisture regulating ingredients that mimic bouncy lipids in your skin. The packaging is small enough to fit into your makeup bag! You can wear it alone or under foundation.

fullsizeoutput_ce5

The Good: Okay, remember earlier when I told you I had to do a double take when I first tried this product on? Well, I still do it every single time I use this product. The moment I blend this onto my skin, I find that my pores disappear. My skin looks like it’s got a natural glow! In fact, every time I have this on, I get complimented on how glowy my skin looks! In fact, none of the people believe me when I say it’s makeup and not my skin! I’ve used this under makeup and by itself…and personally, I prefer to use this product by itself. I find it doesn’t really do anything spectacular for my makeup if I use it as a primer but when I use it on its own, it’s like magic! My skin is smooth and even toned! The colour blends perfectly and I love this for days I don’t want to spend time on makeup. The formula itself is hydrating and really easy to use. I recommend using your fingers vs. using tools to apply it, just to get it to blend better. If you have oily skin, I suggest you set it because I did find about after 8 hours, it did crease a tiny bit! Other than that, this is a phenomenal product! You get the perfect natural glow without all the extra makeup products and that’s mainly why I love using this. A little bit goes a long way with this product. I use about 3 drops on my face to achieve the perfect glow! It does give my face a little bit of colour but nothing that’s super overwhelming or wacky! It’s really natural and very easy to blend.

fullsizeoutput_ce6

The Bad: The only thing I don’t like about this product is the fragrance. It smells like the coppertone sunscreen I used to lather on when I was younger. I hope in the future, they make it fragrance free!

Overall Rating: 9/10 (You can get yours at Charlotte Tilbury’s website or at your local Holt Renfrew cosmetics department!)

Brand Obsession: Huda Beauty

fullsizeoutput_bb0

If you’ve read my past reviews about some of the products from Huda Beauty, then you already know how obsessed I am with what this brand has to offer. The creator behind this brand is Huda Kattan (you can read more about her on her wikipedia page).

How I heard about this brand: The Internet & Youtube. I stumbled across one of her videos years ago and I’ve been a fan ever since. In fact, she is one of my main inspirations and reason why I started blogging. She introduced her namesake makeup line with the introduction of false lashes, famously worn by Kim K.

15491560_10154728561563503_551547247_o

First Item Purchased: Believe it or not, it wasn’t the lashes. In fact, it wasn’t even me who made that first purchase. My mom had heard through friends in Dubai that Huda Beauty had one of the best liquid lipsticks at the time. We collectively decided to try them out and was glad when Sephora was offering the brand through their online store. I blogged all about it here.

DSC04336

Favourite Item So Far: Her first eye shadow palette. Goodness, I have used that palette so much that I’m not even sure what I would do if I were to hit pan on majority of these shadows (since it is limited edition). I won’t lie though, the Golden Sands highlighter palette comes SUPER close (the highlight is b l i n d i n g).

giphy33

Why I’m Obsessing Over This Brand So Much: It’s fun. It’s relatable. It’s beautiful. You’re definitely getting your money’s worth. Everything I own is super pigmented and I’m very happy with the products.

What I’m Looking Forward To From This Brand: I haven’t tried the foundation and the primer…so there’s that. BUT, I really want Huda Beauty to come out with an eye lash kit, that has a mascara, individual false lashes and smouldering liner. I’m counting down to that!

giphy2

What Should You Get: The eyeshadow palettes! Even though her original palette was limited edition, she has come out with mini eye shadow palettes that are perfect for travel! There are 9 shades and a mirror, what more can one want! Also, if you’re going to try any of their liquid lipsticks or liners, Bombshell and Famous are my favourites! You can currently purchase these through Sephora’s website or her own website!

  • Lush Beauty Honey Lip Scrub: This is a great lip scrub and I use it about once a week and/or before a big event!
  • Urban Decay Meltdown Makeup Remover: This is an interesting way to remove makeup! It’s a spray you spritz on your face. You let it soak and then use a cotton pad to remove your makeup. I tend to take this with me when I travel because of its ease!
  • Clean & Clear Advantage Spot Treatment: This is a life saviour whenever I get a breakout and here’s why!
  • Eye makeup Removers by Sephora and Lancome: I use these when I travel or when I’ve run out of other eye makeup removers!

Review: Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick in Spanked, S1ngle & Candy Venom

fullsizeoutput_9d7

Okay, I know if you read this blog on the reg…then you’re already aware that Fenty Beauty has very quickly become my favourite beauty brand of all time. Every product I try, I am instantly impressed. From their face primer to their countour sticks and everything in between, RiRi knows whats good.

fullsizeoutput_9d8.jpeg

What is it: A super slim matte lipstick that is super comfortable on the lips, long wearing, super pigmented and super weightless. I picked up the shades Spanked, S1ngle & Candy Venom. Candy Venom is a bright magenta pink (SO gorg). Spanked is a nude dusty rose colour and S1ngle is descried as a blushing nude. Can I also say, the names of these lipsticks are too good!

fullsizeoutput_9da.jpeg

The Good: Y’all my lips have never been so blessed (LOL). Seriously, I don’t think I’ve felt this way about a lipstick release in a LONG time. The formula of these lipsticks are incredible. When you apply it, it almost feels as though the lipstick is hugging your lips. It’s soft and not heavy at all. In fact, there have been times when I’ve had any of these 3 shades on and I’ve forgotten I’m wearing lipstick. The colour pay off is fantastic. One swipe and you get the colour without any fuss. For a matte lipstick, these are SUPER creamy. It’s really moisturizing and I’m all about this. The packaging is also one of my favourites, especially for travel. It’s super skinny and will fit literally anywhere without feeling bulky. Spanked is perfect for a night out with the girls or date night. S1ngle is great for work or on those days you just want something on your lips without any hassle. Candy Venom is perfect for nights out when you want to make your presence known without trying hard! These products are pretty long wearing on the lips. I’ll be honest, I don’t think it compares to Stunna Lip paint BUT these do stay on your lips for a while. You will need to reapply it but not more than maybe once (that’s all I needed to get through a whole day at work). I also want to point out the design of the lipstick itself. It’s designed to be easy to apply on your lips without needing to use a lip liner. How you ask?  Apply normally to the bottom lip and then turn the lipstick with the short end up to apply to your upper lip. Trust me it works. Lastly, the price of these lipsticks are great. $23 (CDN) is a steal for beauty brand that’s doing incredibly well!

fullsizeoutput_9db Spanked, S1ngle & Candy Venom (from left to right)

The Bad: N-O-T-H-I-N-G!

Overall Rating: 10/10 (I can’t WAIT to grab more shades! You can pick yours up at your local Sephora)

Review: Stila Cosmetics Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow in Kitten Karma and Rose Gold Retro

fullsizeoutput_9d3

I honestly believe that whenever you’re making an entrance, glitter bombs should go off (I can dream right?). Anyways, enough about my glitter dreams…this post is all about Stila Cosmetics’ Glitter & Glow liquid shadows. Read on to find out!

IMG_5482

What is it: The best way to describe this is this: This is liquid glitter in a bottle. I picked up the shades Kitten Karma and Rose Gold Retro. Kitten Karma is filled with champagne, copper and silver glitter. Rose Gold Retro is a mixture between rose gold (duh!) and silver glitter specks. These babies are meant to sparkle your eyelids without being troublesome. Stila describes it as a perfect blend of pearl and glitter to leach your lids with incredible luster and shimmer. It doesn’t promise NO fallout, but it does say that you can expect minimal fallout.

fullsizeoutput_9d5

The Good: My glitter dreams are coming true. If you want the PERFECT halo eye, this is THE only product for you. Kitten Karma is officially my favourite shade of glitter (yes I know I just called glitter a shade). I have never seen such a perfect champagne colour in my life! Rose Gold Retro is beautiful too. In fact, even though I love Kitten Karma, I’ve used Rose Gold Retro more and I’m incredibly impressed. The formula of these are fantastic. I find that with a lot of glitter eyeshadows tend to be chunky…but not these! The formula is so smooth! It’s super lightweight on your eyes, there isn’t a grainy texture. When I apply it, it glides on. It doesn’t dry instantly BUT when it does, blending other shadows around it is a breeze! Nothing moves! I’ll get into the fallout in the next part of this post (keep reading). These retail for $31 CDN and I am not going to lie, I can’t wait to pick up some of the more bold and bright colours! These eyeshadows are SO pigmented and no matter how much you build on the colour, it doesn’t feel heavy nor chunky! The applicator is super soft and very easy to maneuver.

fullsizeoutput_9cf

The bad: Okay, this is not the worst thing but this product does have fallout. It’s not a lot compared to others but there is a little bit. I find that the best way to avoid any fallout from these is to apply an eye mask while you do your eyes (or you can tape half of a cotton round). But other than that, nothing was wrong with these. In fact, this doesn’t affect my overall rating of these products!

The swatches are below in normal light, flash and direct daylight. The top shade is Rose Gold Retro & the bottom is Kitten Karma. Scroll down below to see my overall rating!

fullsizeoutput_9d1

fullsizeoutput_9d2

Overall Rating: 9/10 (pick yours up at a Stila retailer. I got mine from Ulta!)
