How To Shop At Sephora

giphy33So you want to know how to shop at Sephora? Here are a few things I’ve learned since I practically live there (lolz):

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A LIST because if you go in without one you will..(I’m being thousand percent real here)…end up purchasing things you do not need solely because it swatches gorgeously on your hands!

giphy23

If you’re going in without a list…I got you. Make sure you connect to the WIFI at Sephora (it’s legit free at all their locations) so that you can quickly google reviews…or go to your favourite bookmarked blog to see …*ahem*

giphy24

Navigating through Sephora is literally like a fun maze. There are multiple brands and products everywhere…SO…

giphy25

ASK FOR HELP. The Sephora beauty experts that work there are geniuses (shout out to Sephora Square One for ALWAYS holding it down for me). You can ask them anything and they will always have immense knowledge of the items. Like seriously, what is non-touring? Why do I need to strobe!?

giphy26

Being at a Sephora is an emotional roller coaster (one that I enjoy tbh). For example (this really happened): I went to a Sephora to purchase Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Liquid Lipstick in Heathers. I swatched it and fell in love…only to be told it was sold out in store…and then I realized it’s okay, I can order it online on their website.

giphy22

Take advantage of their Skin IQ tester thingamabob (I’m sure there’s some scientific name). It literally matches to the closest shade in any foundation at Sephora. This makes it easier for the clerks and you to find the perfect foundation/concealer match!

giphy28

Sign up for their Beauty Insiders program! Bruh, what you waiting for? It’s free and you get access to products and sales and freebies….AND A BIRTHDAY GIFT!

giphy21

Be prepared to stand in line for….a while. (You can always order online)

giphy29

Sephora is notorious for giving out samples for free so ASK! If you’re a commitment phobe about certain products, then this is the perfect alternative for you!

giphy32

Don’t forget to check out their sale section, whether in store or online. I’ve gotten nail polish for like $3 before..which normally retails for $12. Score.

giphy30

HAVE FUN! I know it can be overwhelming but if you’re a beauty junkie like me…this place is better than Disneyland.

What To Wear To A Fashion Show

DSC_3530 2

A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending International Fashion Encounter’s Fashion Show/SuperModel Canada Search contest (thanks Toronto Fashion Academy for hooking it up) and I figured why not share with you all the wisdom I’ve gained about fashion shows! So without further adieu here are some tips on what you should wear at a fashion show:

  1. Wear your the uncomfortable fashionable pair of shoes you own: Listen, you’re going to be sitting for 85% of the night, so might as well make use of THAT pair of heels you have a love/hate relationship with. Also, you don’t have to wear heels, you can wear boots, flats, sandals etc. Just don’t wear sneakers unless they’re like blinged out Yeezys, speaking of which…has Kanye put out blinged out Yeezys yet?
  2. Use a bold pop of colour so you stick out: Honestly, this can be the colour of your outfit, shoes, accessories and/or makeup. Just make sure it’s bold enough to stand out! I wore a bold magenta lip to offset my all black look (clearly I don’t have a soul). Also, I wore a tarnished gold jewelry to match the gold detailing on my ankle boots (see details matter because other fashionistas at this thing are doing it…and probably judging…okay maybe not…but you catch my drift).
  3. Carry the most expensive or expensive looking purse you own: I’m not telling you to go buy that Louis Vuitton AM you’ve been craving (or maybe I am) but this is the perfect time to whip out that purse you have hidden in its dust bag because you don’t want to ruin it (I carried my Marc Jacobs Crossbody). Or if you really want to be bold, you can carry that all-glitter clutch you bought because why not (just me?).
  4. Wear loads of blingy jewelry: Okay, maybe not loads but enough so you’ve frosted yourself (if you know what I’m referencing, tweet me…shameless promo). You want to be classy and subtle yet fashionable. One of the ladies from the Real Housewives of Toronto attended the show and she had probably one of the most beautiful blinged chokers I’ve ever seen!
  5. Be Unique..so…add your personality to your whole look: You don’t want to look like everyone else because you are NOT everyone else. You are you and make sure everyone around you is aware of all your awesomeness. One of the attendees wore a light up pocket square as a part of his all dark pant/suit. Can you say amazing?! There was also someone in all silver..and when I say all silver..he painted his face and dyed his hair silver…SLAY.
  6. You don’t need to go ALL out, this isn’t Prom: Okay, no one needs to see excessive body parts or over the top gowns…this is a CLASSY affair so keep it simple and keep it classy! Dress like you’re going to be photographed for a profile picture that’s going to be your picture for your whole life (does that even make sense? if it doesn’t I’m sorry..no I’m not. whatever).
  7. Go through your closet before you purchase anything for your #OOTN…: Honestly, majority of the reason why I attend any event that requires me to put in copious amounts of efforts is because of Instagram (what has my life come to). Yes, you want to look spiffy…but NO, you do not need to spend a ton. Last time I went to this very fashion show, I dug out my closet and found a dress I hadn’t worn with the tag still on it. I basically dressed it up to make it fashion worthy (cuz you know tip #5).
  8. …and if you do want to purchase an item for your #OOTN, look for sales: This year I did purchase a dress for this particular show but believe me, I’m a bargain hunter and was able to find my outfit for 65% of its original price (YUS). So if you do need to buy something…go shopping for sales…FYI: obvs this is not a last-minute thing.
  9. Make sure you have a phone charger handy: You’re going to be taking loads of pictures and updating your social media account all night long (again, what has my life really come to?) or you need an UBER…so make sure you’ve got a portable phone charger ready!
  10. Eat before you go or have snacks handy: Fashion shows DO not serve food…because…obviously no one wants to promote eating (okay I’m not throwing shade I promise but it’s probz because no one wants to smear their makeup with food…although I wouldn’t care if they serve me McNuggets). Make sure you eat before hand or make a mickydees run after because these shows go on for a while and you will get hungry. Also, don’t drink on an empty stomach…not the prettiest thing AND make sure you bring cash for the bar.

But most of all, HAVE LOADS OF FUN! I truly have a blast each time I go to IFE’s shows. They’re fun, exciting and you really get a taste of what the fashion world in Toronto is like!

Head to Instagram to see what I wore! Abril Cereva designed the dress on the model above  and the picture is courtesy of Azmat’s Photography!

Review: Smashbox Cover Shot Eye Palette in Smoky

Hello Dolls! Hope you’re all doing great! I’ve got a few things for you in this post. Obviously, this is a review…duh! BUT I’ve also got a corresponding swatch video for you as well (you can click here, if that’s all you want to see). So without further adieu, let’s get in!

First Impressions

DSC02704

When I heard that Shay Mitchell was teaming up with Smashbox to be the face of their new cover shot eyeshadow palette line, I was excited! Although, I’m sad that all these colours aren’t in ONE big palette, I’m still glad they’ve released them based on different eye trends out there. I obviously wanted to purchase the Smoky palette because I have an unhealthy obsession with jewel toned shadows. I know I say this about most things I love but I genuinely fell in love at first swatch! These babies were smooth and pigmented so I couldn’t say no!

Product Application and Formula

DSC02880

If I could describe this palette in one word then it would definitely be PIGMENTED. I can’t explain to you, actually I can…when you look at the swatches, how gorgeous these shades come off! The formula is buttery smooth and it blends into one another flawlessly. I love that it has two matte basic shades in this palette. It’s not super powdery and it’s just perfect. The quality of these shadows are impeccable! The smoky palette includes everything you need to create the perfect smoky eye. I also LOVE that it has some shimmery shades, given glitter is the IT thing right now. With an amazing eye shadow primer, these shades stayed on my eyes the whole night and came off only when I used makeup remover. I will say that there was a tiny bit of fall out BUT I’m willing to let it slide because the shades are so perfectly curated and they complement each other so well.

Rating: 9.5/10

Swatches and Packaging

I think this video speaks for itself don’t you think? BUT if you insist, I’ve also included photo swatches and a little bit about each shade here.

DSC02892DSC02893

  • The two big matte shades in this palette are Feature (matte milk chocolate) and Instinct (matte cream). These can be used as bases, highlights for your brows and even as a crease blending shade
  • Headline is a shimmery maroon. Hell Ya is a metallic brown and Rock Me is a metallic silver.
  • STFU is a shimmery green and probably one of my favourite shades smashbox has put out. Slayer is s matte slate grey colour and Big Night is a black with shimmery glitter.
  • The packaging is literally one of my favourites because it’s sleek, easy to carry and has a big mirror. Also, the holographic cover is literally one of the coolest covers I’ve seen!

Rating: 10/10

Price: $35 (CDN) and you can purchase it at any Smashbox retailer, I got mine at Sephora.

Final Verdict

Do I think you need this palette in your life? YES. Do I think you can achieve the easiest most gorgeous smoky eye with this palette? YES YES. Is the price incredibly reasonable? YES YES YES! Honestly, this is easily one of my favourite launches from Smashbox! If you want these gorgeous shades, I suggest you head on over and purchase this palette ASAP!

Overall Rating: 10/10

See you in the next post!

Best Dressed At The Oscars 2017

Hello Dolls, I know it has been a while! Today’s blog post is going to be all about my favourite looks from the Oscars last night. I know everyone is still reeling from the awkwardness of the best picture debacle BUT…I’m all about the fashion trends in this post so…on to my favourite looks from last night. This was really hard for me to choose because practically everyone brought their A game to the red carpet and it was pure perfection to watch. There were definite trends seen last night (hello gold and white gowns). Without further adieu, here are my favourite looks from last night (no mix up here, I promise…lolz).

Taraji P. Henson

89th Annual Academy Awards - ArrivalsThis was one of my favourite looks from last night! Taraji’s necklace is literally one of the best pieces of jewellery I’ve ever seen on the red carpet. It’s very Oscars and this whole look is brilliant! I’m in love with how gorgeous her makeup looks!

Viola Davis

viola-davis-academy-awards-2017I love when stars wear red on the red carpet. Seriously, this bright red gown looks stunning on Viola and I can’t be any happier! The accessories, the hair, and everything in between is great!

Priyanka Chopra

priyanka-chopra-academy-awards-2017I’m always raving about Priyanka’s outfits that I’m actually left speechless with this whole look. Taking risks isn’t something we always see PC do, but here this is one fashion risk she took and it worked incredibly well in her favour. She looks flawless!

Emma Stone

emma-stone-academy-awards-2017-ftrEmma Stone came dressed to win in this gorgeous beaded gold gown. It looks stunning on her and I can’t get enough of how well this whole look was styled! The side swept waves and that bold lip pair perfectly with this dress!

Kirsten Dunst

89th Annual Academy Awards - ArrivalsAHH! I WANT THIS DRESS. Seriously, this was one of my favourite looks from last night. Kirsten looks incredibly gorgeous in this all black ensemble. I’m particularly obsessed with her shoes! Look at those! Also, that necklace is beautiful! Everything here is beautiful!

Felicity Jones

felicity-jones-academy-awards-2017I tweeted about how I literally would wear this dress everyday, everywhere if I could. It’s princessy, it’s pretty, it’s delicate and it’s just perfect on Felicity! The shoes, the hair and the minimal jewelry is correct for this look. I’m also loving her makeup! That lip shade is gorgeous on her!

Chrissy Teigen

chrissy-teigen-academy-awards-2017Chrissy NEVER disappoints me. She is one of the very few celebs who actually make it their purpose to take a risk on the carpet. Sure, it doesn’t work for all but she somehow always manages to look incredible! The high slit, the work on the dress and the makeup is gorgeous!

Nicole Kidman

nicole-kidman-academy-awards-2017This has to be one of the prettiest dresses I have ever seen on Nicole. The high-necked gown is impeccable on her. Despite being a super light and pale colour it doesn’t wash her out and I love every bit of it! The bright bold lip and the updo is perfect with this look!

Emma Roberts

emma-roberts-academy-awards-2017Is anyone else getting a Julia Roberts vibe from this look? Emma looks stunning as usual in this black and cream gown. It looks super classy on her and I love the work on the bottom half of this dress. Also, can we please appreciate her gorgeous hair and makeup?

Andrew Garfield

andrew-garfield-academy-awards-2017He’s such a cutie. I have a thing for men in bow ties (which is probably why the other two guys made it on this list too). Andrew is rocking a classic tux in the most classic way ever and I am surely in love with this ensemble.

Ryan Gosling

ryan-gosling-academy-awards-2017He’s a classic man, 😍. I think Ryan can wear a garbage bag and still make it work at a formal event. What I love even more about this look is the ruffled shirt! It’s super stylish and looks great on Ryan!

Riz Ahmed

89th Annual Academy Awards, Arrivals, Los Angeles, USA - 26 Feb 2017I seriously have a thing for men who choose not to wear a black tux at a formal event. I mean don’t get me wrong, it’s classic but it becomes stylish when you do something different on the carpet! Riz looks handsome in this navy blue tux. Also, bow ties on men are a weakness for me…lolz.

See you in the next post!

Review: Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Liquid Lipstick

dsc02533

Hello Dolls! Hope you’re having an awesome day! If you haven’t checked out my previous post, make sure you do by clicking right here. And as always, follow me on all my socials listed at the top of this page. In this post, I’m finally bringing you a review (it’s been a minute) of one of my favourite liquid lipstick brands. Anastasia Beverly Hills changed the liquid lipstick game, when they released these babies. They’re practically always sold out and these are the ones I’ve been able to get my hands on. So without further adieu…

First Impressions

dsc02538

Remember when I said this was one of my favourite makeup brands ever? Well these products are one of the main reasons why. Initially, I picked these up because the Sephora worker suggested I try “Carina”, since I was in the market for finding a bright pink lipstick. As always, I fell in love with first swatch and decided to pick up 3 more shades I was dying to try. They were Dusty Rose, Catnip and Kathryn (more on the shades individually below). Not only do these swatch well but they feel great on your lips too!

Product Formula, Application, Packaging and Swatches

The formula of this product is incredibly awesome. Like I cannot even explain to you how great these feel on your lips. They keep your lips moisturized and they dry incredibly quickly on your lips. They also stay put. That means it’s food, smudge, drink, kiss, etc. proof and you know how much I love products that doesn’t require me to reapply them. I’ve had these babies on for HOURS and never had to reapply them once. And I’m not speaking just for one shade but ALL four of these shades. The product application is simple and just like your typical liquid lipstick. The applicator is generic, so nothing surprising there. The packaging is also pretty generic, so nothing too extravagant. Which is fine because I’m always more interested in what the product does versus what it looks like. Let’s break down the individual shades. They’re all matte and they look gorgeous.

  • Kathryn: I think the best way I can describe this is a brick reddish-brown.
  • Dusty Rose: Pretty much the same as its namesake. It’s a dusty rose nude.
  • Carina: Literally one of my favourite shades ever. A bright watermelon pink
  • Catnip: A mauvey plummy nude.

Each one of these shades swatch incredibly well. In fact, every swatch you see below is just one swipe of the colour. All four of these shades are my most worn lipsticks ever. Below you’ll see the picture of the shades without and with flash:

dsc02542dsc02545 (Kathryn, Dusty Rose, Carina, Catnip)

Availability, Accessibility and Price

You can pick yours up at Sephora or any Anastasia Beverly Hills retailers for $26 (CDN)!

Overall Rating

I am in love with all these shades and can’t wait to add more colours to my kit! The price is great, the swatches are super pigmented and they feel super natural on your lips. I mean what more can you ask for?

Overall Rating: 10/10

See you in the next post!
