Update.

So….I know it’s been like gazillion years since I’ve blogged about anything on here and here’s why:

  • I have a job that I’m extremely and as equally passionate about & balancing my love for this blog with that has been a challenge at times.
  • I’ve been feeling uninspired lately and that’s changing…slowly but surely.
  • I wanted to spend any free time I had doing things, learning things and just enjoying every moment life has to offer (which if you follow me on Instagram, then you already know).
  • I wanted to take a break from the blogging world and regroup.

Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, I’m ready to share with you the future of this blog and what will be happening going forward:

  • There will be a new blog post every Sunday. It can be beauty, fashion and/or lifestyle related or even Bollywood (lolz).
  • If I’m feeling extra inspired or something fun comes up and I’m dying to share, I will post in between! So there will definatley be bonus blog posts!
  • Also, make sure you’re following me on Instagram & Twitter (@DaffDiaries). That’s usually where I post first impressions of beauty products literally in real-time plus you get to see what I’m up on the daily!

Hope this clears the air! Thank you to all those loyal dolls, who’ve been here since the beginning. I started this blog out of pure boredom and not knowing what the heck I was doing in life. Although, things have been changing left and right, I am forever grateful for all of you that read and share!

Review: Huda Beauty Textured Shadows Palette, Rose Gold Edition

DSC04336

Huda Beauty’s first ever eye shadow palette has been one of the most coveted beauty items ever seen on Instagram. Trust me. It’s sold out almost every time it’s restocked and in this blog post, I’m going to tell you why. I own a bevy of eye shadow palettes and I don’t think I’ve ever come across something like this in a long time. I’m not going to tell you all the amazing things the creator of this palette has done, you can wikipedia that…what I will tell you is why this palette needs to be in your life.

DSC04346

This eye shadow palette contains 6 3D metal shades, 2 chromatic pressed pearl shadows, and 10 matte shadows…which brings you to a total of 18 shadows. 3D metal shades are basically glitter cream shadows. They’re extremely pigmented because of the glitter and are best applied with your fingers. The chromatic shades are micro glitter shadows with a pearly/sheeny finish, also super pigmented. The matte shadows are probably one of my favourites I’ve ever come across. The shades are just too beautiful and are SO pigmented.

DSC04355  Bae, Moon Dust, Black Truffle, Suede

The formula of the shadows are incredible. They’re buildable, they go smoothly on your lids and I didn’t notice a whole lot of fall out (especially the glitters). The colour pay off is amazing. They’re just so gorgeous. One of my favourite things about this palette is the names for each of these shades. The versatility of this palette is great. You can use it during the day or night. The packaging of this product is interesting and reminds me of Stila’s packaging. It has no mirror but just a magnetic clear flap covering it. It’s sleek and super easy to put into your makeup kit.

There is probably one MAJOR downside to this palette and that’s the luxurious price of $85 (CDN). I can understand that this is and will be a huge factor for a lot of people who are contemplating purchasing this palette but what you need to think about when purchasing this is the following: How often will I use this in comparison to my other palettes? I find a lot of the time this is what helps me decide if I really need an eye shadow palette in my kit. With all of that being said, I do think it is worth the money and the hype. You get a range of shadows that do multiple things and that alone sold it for me. You can pick this up online at Sephora for $85 (CDN)!

Pros:

  • Buildable
  • Amazing colour pay off
  • Range of shades is amazing
  • No major fall out, especially from the glitters

Cons:

  • Price
  • No mirror

Review: Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Quickie Contour Stick

DSC04360

So if you read my post last month, then you already know how excited I have been to try Benefit’s Hoola Quickie contour stick. Seriously, I am not by any means an expert at contouring. In fact, I still don’t understand how it works. I won’t lie though, I have tried it out at different events because of this very product but I’ve never really been able to master it…until I tried THIS product.

DSC04369

Benefit’s Hoola bronzer is a cult favourite. Anyone and everyone that knows anything about makeup has heard of that particular bronzer. When they decided to come out with a cream-stick version of it, I was beyond excited to try it. It’s a cream-to-powder formula which means that it goes on like a cream and it dries as a powder. Since it’s in a form of a stick, you just have to line the areas you’re trying to contour (hence the quickie part of the name) and blend either using your fingers, a brush or the Beauty Blender.

DSC04371

This soft matte bronzer has been one of my favourite products to try. I have to say when I tried this to contour my cheekbones, nose and jaw line…it worked like a charm. Never has a contour looked so natural in my life. It’s super bendable and the packaging is super cute. There’s no fragrance to it and I loved how easy it was to use. You can definitely build up the formula and layer with other products, if you’re looking to look super sculpted.

DSC04373

However, there is ONE slight issue. In a world where there are tons of different skin tones, I can’t see this working for my dolls that have a darker skin tone. In fact, it doesn’t really show up A LOT on my skin, unless I layer or build. But I like to use this for a natural looking contour, so it works out in my case. Although, I will mention…when I wanted to see if this can give me that Kardashian look, I found I was using a lot more product than any of my other bronzer/contour powder.

With everything being said, I do think this is a really good product Benefit has put out. Those who love the original boxed powders are going to absolutely love this because it’s easy to use, looks very natural and it’s very easy to build. Plus, it looks SO cute on your makeup counter. This product retails for $38 (CDN) at any Benefit counter!

Pros:

  • Cream stick dries to a powder
  • Doesn’t irritate skin
  • Soft Matte bronzer/contour, doesn’t look shiny
  • Buildable and blends really easy

Cons:

  • Shade might be a little to light for darker skin tones
  • You do end up using a lot of product if you have mid range skin tone

Rating: 8.5/10

Review: Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

DSC02718

Since we are transitioning between winter and spring (although, it feels more like winter here in Toronto), I figured I should share with you one of my favourite skin care products that I’m completely obsessed with. Before coming across Laneige’s Water Sleeping Mask, I honestly was having a little bit of an issue with my skin (I know such first world problems). I have combination oily skin, so I would notice that whenever the seasons would be transitioning, my skin would start acting wonkydonky (aka dry peeling patches). I never quite was able to find a long-term solution to it, until this product. Everything else I used would temporarily fix or rather moisturize my skin.

This is a gel based water sleeping mask that is meant to rejuvenate and hydrate your skin while you sleep (huzzah for this). Initially, I hadn’t tried a sleeping mask prior to this but I can safely say that I haven’t gone back since using this.

DSC04424

What I love about this product is how simple and easy it is to use. I slather this lightly on my face before bed (once a week) and I wake up with the softest skin I have ever had! It makes my skin extremely radiant and super moisturized. I found that ever since I incorporated this into my skin care routine, I’ve NEVER had those flaky skin issues between seasons changing. In fact, my skin’s elasticity has improved even more. This is perfect for all skin types and I love that this works while you sleep. It literally is every lazy girl’s (or boys) dream come true! It’s got a tiny bit of fragrance to it, but nothing that overpowers. The texture of the formula is AMAZING! Since it is a gel based mask, the formula is super light and doesn’t feel heavy when you apply it. In fact, it feels like you’re using a normal moisturizer. I also found that using this once a week made my skin a lot smoother in the long run. It never has irritated my skin nor has it caused any breakouts, which is a huge plus. I got mine at Sephora for $30 (CDN). Honestly, I hadn’t heard of this brand until I got a sample from Sephora and like I’ve already said, this really was a game changer for my skin in the long run. The size of the product is great because you really don’t need to use a lot of it. I definitely think this is worth every little bit, especially if you’re looking for a sleeping mask that give you results!

Pros:

  • Smells great
  • Moisturizes while you sleep
  • You wake up with glowy, radiant skin
  • Keeps skin super soft

Cons:

  • None
