Review: MILK MAKEUP Blur Stick

fullsizeoutput_9c7

When I tried this at Sephora, I was stunned. I mean, if it can make my hand look like it had an instagram filter on it, then it for sure will do wonders for my face….right?

IMG_4702

What is it: This blur-stick by Milk Makeup is exactly what it says it is…a blur stick. It’s a silicone free solid that is meant to minimize the appearance of fine lines, pores and any imperfections. As the creators say, it gives you a smooth invisible matte finish on every skin tone. You can use it as a primer. It’s colourless and a universal face filter. It’s oil-free as well, making it perfect for combination oily skin. You can purchase it at Sephora for $43 (CDN).

IMG_4700

The Good: So when I tried this on my face the first time, I noticed something. The stick wasn’t creamy at all. In fact, it was a lot drier than I thought. So you definitely need to warm the product up on your hands before you apply on your face. I love the idea of the primer/blur stick being a stick because it’s super easy to apply. When I applied it on my face, I saw that it definitely did blur it out for a soft focus finish. It didn’t completely eliminate my pores but I mean I haven’t come across a product that does that completely yet (do you guys know any?). This product is good on its own…but I have combination oily skin, so it worked for me. I love pairing it with the Benefit Porefessional and then wearing a foundation on top. I found that it gave me the best “air brush” results. I love the packaging and the whole concept of this product.

IMG_4701

The Bad: I’m not sure how anyone with dry skin will be able to make this work because it definitely was not creamy. If you just apply it straight from the stick (without warming it), then your makeup will cake because the formula is super dry. If you have oily skin, then this primer is for you! Other than that, I wouldn’t tell anyone to write this product off just yet. I have combination oily skin and it worked fine for me. This is a product you definitely want to try at some point but you won’t be completely missing out if you don’t want to (LOL).

Review: Anastasia Beverly Hills Matte Lipstick in Buff & Rosewood

fullsizeoutput_990 (Buff on the left & Rosewood on the right)
When I heard that Anastasia Beverly Hills was going to launch a line of matte lipsticks (which aren’t liquid), I was beyond excited. If you know me, you already know that ABH’s liquid lipsticks are probably one of my favourite liquid lippies of all time! The bar was definitely set SUPER high for these lipsticks and I can’t wait to tell you if these exceeded my expectations or not!
What is it: As mentioned before, these are a line of matte lipstick made for people who aren’t into liquid lipstick but want the same long-lasting power as them. It’s super matte, full-pigmented and long-lasting on your lips. They retail for $23 (CDN) at Sephora (that’s where I got mine). I chose the shades Rosewood and Buff. Rosewood is described as a muted cherrywood and Buff is described as a nude salmon pink.
fullsizeoutput_991 (Buff on the top & Rosewood on the bottom)
The Good: So you’re probably thinking, if these lipsticks exceeded my expectations? YES. These lipsticks are fantastic. Specifically, Buff has become my go to nude shade for work. In fact, I’ve had numerous people ask me what I’m wearing on my lips whenever I have either of these two shades on! Buff is also great for days you don’t want to wear makeup but want something on your lips to add a little bit of glam in your life. Rosewood is equally gorgeous too! The formula of these lipsticks are INCREDIBLE. It’s pretty comfortable for a matte lipstick. It doesn’t dry out your lips at all. In fact, it feels like the lipstick is hugging your lips in the most gorgeous way (LOL yes I just wrote that). It’s smooth on application, which is not a surprise for ABH at all. Now these aren’t the most long-lasting lipsticks out there…especially when you compare them to the liquid lipstick line from ABH…BUT because the formula is so great, it’s not a huge downfall (for me). In a 12 hour period, I reapplied the lipstick twice, which isn’t TOO bad. The pigmentation of these lipsticks are wonderful. All the swatch pictures you’re seeing on here are only one swipe of the lipstick! The packaging is super simple and classic, which is cute! I love that ABH let the formula of the lipsticks do the talking and didn’t really make the packaging extra (lol). The price is also pretty decent. You really are getting your money’s worth with these babies. I can’t wait to pick up more shades from this line!

The Bad: NOTHING!

Review: Fenty Beauty by Rihanna’s Stunna Lip Paint in Uncensored

fullsizeoutput_8be

Y’all, I cannot even. This is my THIRD Fenty Beauty product review and I can’t even explain to you how much I’m falling in love. Fenty Beauty might be the first brand in a long time that’s won me over completely. With every new product I try, I fall in love even more.

IMG_4280

What is it: When Riri says she’s going to give you a universal red lipstick which works with every skin tone, she seriously delivers! This baby is a bright red liquid lipstick that flatters every single skin tone. No kidding at all. It’s weightless and long wearing with a soft matte finish. I’m really glad that Rihanna decided to release this shade first from her Stunna lip paint line…because it truly is a stunner (okay, that was even too cheesy for me to say I must admit). But seriously, the packaging is very similar to Christian Louboutin’s nail polish bottles and I love every single thing about it.

IMG_4281

The Good: Oh my goodness gracious. CAN WE TAKE A MOMENT. I bought this without swatching the shade because I figured if Rihanna is telling me that this shade will work for me, then it completely will (also, let’s not forget she was the OG ambassador for Rubywoo, which is MAC’s version of the universal red). The moment I tried it on, I was mesmerized…not by the colour but by how smoothly the applicator glided on my lips. Not to mention how opaque the colour was on one swipe. In fact, this picture here (PS why aren’t you following me on IG yet?) is prime example of what one swatch of Rihanna’s stunna lip paint looks like after I’ve eaten, drank and had it on for probably around 4-5 hours. The formula is exactly like lip paint. It’s weightless gliding on and when it’s on your lips, which is always a huge plus point with liquid lipsticks. Another thing I noticed was how it didn’t dry my lips out at all. When applied, the shade did take a minute to dry on my lips but that’s expected with all liquid lipsticks! As I mentioned, you only really need one swipe of this product to get its true colour. The bright red shade is gorgeous and great for this holiday season! The applicator is an interesting design and it definitely works! I’m looking forward to Riri bringing out more shades to this line!

IMG_4282

The Bad: There wasn’t anything majorly wrong with this product…but I will let you know: With all liquid lipsticks, these products can’t be applied super quickly. In fact, the application process requires a teeny bit of time but by no means does it overshadow the amazingness of this product!

Review: NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella & Dragon Girl

DSC07936

These lip pencils have been a cult favourite for years and when I got my hands on them, I completely understand why. NARS is one of my favourite makeup brands because of how much the brand values quality over quantity.

DSC07941

What is it: These two lip pencils are from NARS’ Velvet Matte Lip Pencil line. It’s essentially a matte lipstick in the form of a pencil. I picked up the shade Dragon Girl, which supposedly Taylor Swift swears by, and I was given Cruella, a deluxe sample size. Dragon Girl is a bright poppy red and Cruella is a Scarlett red. These retail for $33 (CDN) and can be picked up at any NARS retailers (mine’s from Sephora).

fullsizeoutput_88f (Top: Dragon Girl Bottom: Cruella)

The Good: I now know why Taylor Swift swears by Dragon Girl. That red is probably one of the most gorgeous reds I’ve ever used. The staying power of these lip pencils are incredible. Both these shades stayed on my lips until I used makeup remover to remove it and I can’t be any happier! These pencils are SO pigmented. The colour you see is the colour you get. The finish isn’t completely matte but it’s matte with a hint of sheen (if that even makes sense). I love that it’s not the size of a lip liner pencil and is a little bit bigger…making it perfect for applying all over your lips with ease. The formula is incredibly smooth and does not dry out your lips at all. I’ve used these shades alone, I’ve paired them with one another and I’ve paired them with other lip products….and I wasn’t disappointed at all. Cruella and Dragon Girl are so different from one another, so when you pair them together…you are left with a unique red shade and I am all for it! These shades felt so light on my lips, that I forgot I had red lips on (lol).

DSC07940

The Bad: The only downside with this product is the fact that you have to sharpen it. I am hoping at some point NARS comes out with a retractable version of these lip pencils because sharpening them is a little hard (make sure you use a legit jumbo sharpener for makeup products). Other than that, nothing was terrible about this product.

Review: Fenty Beauty Match Stix Trio in Tan (Truffle, Caramel & Rum)

fullsizeoutput_82e

I, along with the world, am slowly falling in love with practically every product that’s in Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty line. When I saw that Fenty Beauty had a curated “contour” kit, I just couldn’t resist and had to see what it was all about!

fullsizeoutput_82f

What is it: This cream-to-powder contour kit includes everything you need for the perfect contour. Fenty Beauty came out with 4 curated skin tone shade kits and I picked up the shade Tan because it seemed like it would work for my skin tone. The kit includes a Matte contour match stix in Truffle, a matte Concealer match stix in Caramel and a Shimmer highlight stix in Rum. All three of the “stix” are full-sized and are retractable. In addition to all that, they’re also magnetic, which makes it perfect for traveling!

fullsizeoutput_830

The Good: OKAY. THE FORMULA OF THIS PRODUCT IS EPIC. Yes, I needed to write all of that in caps to get my point across. No, seriously, the formula is amazing. It’s creamy enough to blend extremely well on to your skin but hard enough for it to not break off (hmm KKW needs to learn a thing or two from this range). Not only does this blend extremely well, it’s also buildable…which makes contouring super easy for newbies. The highlighting shade is SO pretty and you can definitely wear it as an eyeshadow too (bonus points for versatility). The longevity of these products are great! It definitely stayed on my face without any movement until I used makeup remover to take it off. It wasn’t cakey and I love how all three shades go so well with one another. And can we talk about the packaging? The fact that it’s magnetic is what sold it for me because I tend to lose products when I travel and *hopefully* I won’t now that they’re all stuck together (lol). Also, these stix are SO pigmented. You only need one swipe of this to do the work for you!

fullsizeoutput_831

The Bad: One of the only things I had a teeny issue with is the shade Caramel. Now, for me, it’s pretty much the same skin tone…so if you’re looking to have a brighter under eye look, then this is not going to do it. But needless to say, as a concealer to cover up acne or scars, this was great!

Overall Rating: 10/10 ($67 CDN at Sephora….the price is totally worth it)

Review: Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer

fullsizeoutput_777

When Rihanna comes out with a makeup line, you know it’s going to be epic in every way possible. This is the first ever makeup line that I’ve bought right on release day and I can’t say I’m disappointed at all. When I read about this primer, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it!

What is it: This particular product is a priming base that smooths your skin for perfect foundation application. It’s shine stopping, pore-diffusing and moisturizing. And as you can tell by the title, it’s supposed to give you an instant retouch effect that helps your makeup stay on longer.

IMG_9989

The Good: I’ve been using this since the day it arrived on my doorstep and I can definitely say it’s become one of my favourite go-to primers. One of the main reasons why I’m loving this, especially with the seasons changing, is the fact that it’s super moisturizing without being greasy or leaving any sort of residue on your face. The texture is very similar to Clinique’s Dramatically moisturizing gel and we all know how much I love that. It seeps on to your skin right away! Another HUGE plus point for this primer is that it leaves no sort of “white” cast on your face. I mean when Rihanna said she wanted to create an all-inclusive beauty range, she was not kidding. This will work for practically any skin tone. As for the priming aspect of it, my foundation (no matter which one I used) glided on perfectly. My pores weren’t as visible and it just felt really good on my face (lol). Also, my makeup stayed put throughout the whole day!

IMG_9990

The Bad: OKAY. I hate to say this but WHY IS THIS IN A GLASS BOTTLE? That is literally the only negative part about this product. I am a natural-born klutz so I already know that when I’ll travel with this, I’m going to crack the bottle or something. But other than that, this is the perfect primer. Yes. You read that right. Perfect. Primer.

Overall Rating: 9.5/10 ($40 CDN at Sephora)

My Favourite Contour Palettes

fullsizeoutput_61e

I will be the first one to admit that I cannot contour properly. You’ll always find me making fishy faces or staring at my Instagram feed trying to figure out how to perfectly contour. But what I will say is these 5 palettes have helped me big time. I know I’m SO late to the contouring game (but honestly, who FOLLOWS trends right? It’s all about making them) but here are 5 of my favourite contour palettes that work best for a novice like me!

  1. Sleek Makeup’s Cream Contour Kit in Medium: I picked this up at Ulta and I am in love with how simple and easy it is to use. It’s also the cheapest palette out of these and my wallet cannot be any happier!
  2. Urban Decay’s Shape Shifter in Medium Dark: This impulse buy ended up being one of my favourite UD purchases in a long time. This is perfect for travel because it has both cream and powder contour shades plus a gorgeous highlight shade!
  3. Kat Von D’s Shade+Light Palette: This is the holy grail of contour products. These powders feel like butter and blend perfectly on your skin. You can also use the lighter shades to bake!
  4. Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit in Medium to Tan: This was one of my first ever contour palettes I had ever purchased and I always go back to it. I love that it’s buildable and perfect for my skin tone!
  5. NARS Contour Blush in Paloma: This one is my favourite for everyday mainly because it’s super simple to use and it looks like I contoured without even trying (that’s how you’re supposed to rock this trend right? lolz).
