Review: MAC Cosmetics’ Next To Nothing Face Colour & Powder

DSC04290

If you’ve been following me on Instagram, then you already know that I’ve been using this particular foundation (it’s not marketed as a foundation…but I’m going to call it foundation lol) for the past couple weeks. You know what this means? I’ve got a new review for you, just like old times!

What is it?

It’s an ultra glowy foundation created for a no-makeup makeup look. These babies are meant to give you a radiant glow while perfecting your skin. They include special micro-light thingamajigs, which I’m sure if you go on their website you can read about…I’m here to tell you my experience with using these two products.

The liquid version of this “Next-to-nothing” face colour line is absolutely flawless. I love the way it feels on my skin. It’s balmy and smooth. I layered it with a mattifying primer and I still got a gorgeous dewey look. I’ve used these alone and I’ve paired it with other products to see what the effect would be…and it was the same: perfect. It looks like you have a filter on your face without looking caked at all. It didn’t crease nor did it become oily throughout the day. I have combination oily skin, so I was really worried about that but it was flawless (if you want to head to my Instagram, you can see the results yourself. I used NO editing tools or filters on that picture).

The powder version of it is great too! I can definitely see myself using this throughout the summer time because neither of the two (alone or combined together) felt heavy on my face. It’s lightweight and very easy to blend. In fact, it felt like it gelled with my skin! MAC recommends that you use these with synthetic brushes and/or sponges and that’s exactly what I did and the results were amazing! My face was radiant and it works really well with other makeup too (i.e. blush or contour).

If you’re looking for a no-makeup look face product…these are it. These picture well, they look gorgeous in person, they layer really well with other products and it makes you look like you have no make up on! I will mention that the shade range is limited. I didn’t swatch these here because ultimately with foundation it comes down to what your skin can gel with. And, I can definitely say: this is a product that will work with different skin types! It smells exactly like the Fix+. But overall, I really loved the way it looked on my skin! Also, the pressed powders are definitely more pigmented than the liquid form of this product, but both are buildable (which is perfect for the summer time).

Price:

  • Liquid: $38 (CDN)
  • Powder: $32 (CDN)

Pros:

  • Lightweight, buildable, looks pretty on skin!
  • Leaves you with the perfect radiant glow!
  • Very natural looking, doesn’t crease or cake

Cons:

  • The smell can be problematic for some
  • Not a lot of shades in the range, which is a surprise for MAC

Overall Rating: 9/10

How To Shop At Sephora

giphy33So you want to know how to shop at Sephora? Here are a few things I’ve learned since I practically live there (lolz):

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A LIST because if you go in without one you will..(I’m being thousand percent real here)…end up purchasing things you do not need solely because it swatches gorgeously on your hands!

giphy23

If you’re going in without a list…I got you. Make sure you connect to the WIFI at Sephora (it’s legit free at all their locations) so that you can quickly google reviews…or go to your favourite bookmarked blog to see …*ahem*

giphy24

Navigating through Sephora is literally like a fun maze. There are multiple brands and products everywhere…SO…

giphy25

ASK FOR HELP. The Sephora beauty experts that work there are geniuses (shout out to Sephora Square One for ALWAYS holding it down for me). You can ask them anything and they will always have immense knowledge of the items. Like seriously, what is non-touring? Why do I need to strobe!?

giphy26

Being at a Sephora is an emotional roller coaster (one that I enjoy tbh). For example (this really happened): I went to a Sephora to purchase Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Liquid Lipstick in Heathers. I swatched it and fell in love…only to be told it was sold out in store…and then I realized it’s okay, I can order it online on their website.

giphy22

Take advantage of their Skin IQ tester thingamabob (I’m sure there’s some scientific name). It literally matches to the closest shade in any foundation at Sephora. This makes it easier for the clerks and you to find the perfect foundation/concealer match!

giphy28

Sign up for their Beauty Insiders program! Bruh, what you waiting for? It’s free and you get access to products and sales and freebies….AND A BIRTHDAY GIFT!

giphy21

Be prepared to stand in line for….a while. (You can always order online)

giphy29

Sephora is notorious for giving out samples for free so ASK! If you’re a commitment phobe about certain products, then this is the perfect alternative for you!

giphy32

Don’t forget to check out their sale section, whether in store or online. I’ve gotten nail polish for like $3 before..which normally retails for $12. Score.

giphy30

HAVE FUN! I know it can be overwhelming but if you’re a beauty junkie like me…this place is better than Disneyland.

Organizing Your Makeup 101

DSC02901

Hello Dolls! Hope you’re having a wonderful day! If you haven’t read my previous post, then you can do so by clicking right here. If you know me personally, then you’re already aware of my OCD-like obsession with being organized no matter what. In fact, I’ve blogged about this on many occasions (post 1, post 2). While going through probably the worst writer’s block of my lifetime (yes, this includes my uni days where writing about Aristotle seemed a lot easier than what I’ve been experiencing lately), I realized I have never shared with you how I organize my makeup! So without further adieu, here are some tips on how you can organize ALL your makeup!

DSC02898

  1. Categorize: This is probably the most important factor of organizing just about anything and everything in your life…including makeup. What I like to do is keep all my foundations together, all my blushes together, all my eye shadows together, etc (you catch my drift yet?). This is essential because you want to be able to find your fav makeup item ASAP. Also, I categorize my makeup brushes according to that rule too.
  2. Once you’ve categorized, one of the most important part of organizing is finding a space to put them: I mean you can buy different organizing tools (as you can see I have one devoted to all my MAC lipsticks) or you can create your own. The possibilities are endless and you can get as creative as you want (hello DIY). I have a drawer devoted to just foundations, concealers and setting powders. The reason why I grouped them like that is because I combine those 3 products at the same time, so why not have them altogether in one place?
  3. In doing steps 1 and 2, you’ll come across old makeup or makeup you haven’t used (believe me these things expire quicker than you think and you don’t want to put stuff like that on your skin). One of the most important things you can do is, let it go, let it go! Okay, I am obviously too obsessed with Disney…but GET RID OF IT: You do not need makeup you haven’t used in more than a year because…you haven’t used it. It’s simple as that. Chances are you won’t use it again so why bother. This has always been the hardest thing for me to do but you know what? YOLO.
  4. So you’ve categorized, made space for those categories, gotten rid of things you don’t need…now what? PUT THEM IN THE SPACE: This is probably my favourite part because you can be SUPER creative and very Instagram worthy, but you have to do it correctly. Add dividers in your drawers. Add trays to your makeup desk, make it pretty as you like or as simple as you want…it’s up to you!

DSC02900

And VOILA! You’ve now organized everything makeup related in your life…on to your closet…lolz.

Until next time,

kisses,

S

Review: Smashbox Cover Shot Eye Palette in Smoky

Hello Dolls! Hope you’re all doing great! I’ve got a few things for you in this post. Obviously, this is a review…duh! BUT I’ve also got a corresponding swatch video for you as well (you can click here, if that’s all you want to see). So without further adieu, let’s get in!

First Impressions

DSC02704

When I heard that Shay Mitchell was teaming up with Smashbox to be the face of their new cover shot eyeshadow palette line, I was excited! Although, I’m sad that all these colours aren’t in ONE big palette, I’m still glad they’ve released them based on different eye trends out there. I obviously wanted to purchase the Smoky palette because I have an unhealthy obsession with jewel toned shadows. I know I say this about most things I love but I genuinely fell in love at first swatch! These babies were smooth and pigmented so I couldn’t say no!

Product Application and Formula

DSC02880

If I could describe this palette in one word then it would definitely be PIGMENTED. I can’t explain to you, actually I can…when you look at the swatches, how gorgeous these shades come off! The formula is buttery smooth and it blends into one another flawlessly. I love that it has two matte basic shades in this palette. It’s not super powdery and it’s just perfect. The quality of these shadows are impeccable! The smoky palette includes everything you need to create the perfect smoky eye. I also LOVE that it has some shimmery shades, given glitter is the IT thing right now. With an amazing eye shadow primer, these shades stayed on my eyes the whole night and came off only when I used makeup remover. I will say that there was a tiny bit of fall out BUT I’m willing to let it slide because the shades are so perfectly curated and they complement each other so well.

Rating: 9.5/10

Swatches and Packaging

I think this video speaks for itself don’t you think? BUT if you insist, I’ve also included photo swatches and a little bit about each shade here.

DSC02892DSC02893

  • The two big matte shades in this palette are Feature (matte milk chocolate) and Instinct (matte cream). These can be used as bases, highlights for your brows and even as a crease blending shade
  • Headline is a shimmery maroon. Hell Ya is a metallic brown and Rock Me is a metallic silver.
  • STFU is a shimmery green and probably one of my favourite shades smashbox has put out. Slayer is s matte slate grey colour and Big Night is a black with shimmery glitter.
  • The packaging is literally one of my favourites because it’s sleek, easy to carry and has a big mirror. Also, the holographic cover is literally one of the coolest covers I’ve seen!

Rating: 10/10

Price: $35 (CDN) and you can purchase it at any Smashbox retailer, I got mine at Sephora.

Final Verdict

Do I think you need this palette in your life? YES. Do I think you can achieve the easiest most gorgeous smoky eye with this palette? YES YES. Is the price incredibly reasonable? YES YES YES! Honestly, this is easily one of my favourite launches from Smashbox! If you want these gorgeous shades, I suggest you head on over and purchase this palette ASAP!

Overall Rating: 10/10

See you in the next post!

How To Get The Perfect Smoky Eye!

4750c30da960a7baf5cb5f9e6a727119

I love this classic look that Eva Longoria is rocking here. The smoky eye paired with a nude lip does wonders for her. This look is so trendy and classic that it will never go out of style. Once you’ve mastered the method, you can play around with different colours. Below you will find a series of steps to achieve this look along with some of my favourite products.

Happy recreating this make up look Dolls! x

The Smoky Eyes

  1. Prime eyes with your favourite eye primer. (I cannot live without Urban Decay’s 24/7 primer potion).
  2. Apply your favourite soft silver eye shadow all over your lids.
  3. Line upper lash line with a black liner. It doesn’t have to be perfect but make sure you apply generously. This one is my favourite for smokey eyes because it’s waterproof and comes with a smudge tip on the other end!
  4. Take a clean liner brush and start smudging the line you just created (in slow small circular motions). Once at the outer corner of the eye, make a backwards “C” into the crease line, stopping mid way on the lid.
  5. Take your favourite charcoal shadow (if you’re feeling bold go with a dark matte black), and with a crease brush apply to your outer corner of your eye (the curved part of the backwards C) stopping at the middle.
  6. Keep blending until harsh lines are gone.
  7. Take the same Black eyeliner and apply to the bottom lash line (including the water line).
  8. Take the same liner brush used before, and smudge out the bottom lash line so that the line is a lot softer; join with the top lash line you drew (the outer corner where it ends)
  9. Take a highlight colour (why not Shroom by MAC?) and apply to the brow bone.
  10. Take a clean crease brush and blend so that there are no harsh lines.
  11. Apply a volumizing mascara to finish the look (if you want you can apply false eye lashes); My favourite mascara for a smoky eye look is this one.
  12. Fill in eye brows as you would normally do.
  13. If there is fall out around the eye, take a tissue paper and wipe it off.

Face

  1. Apply your favourite foundation primer. This one is my fav!
  2. Apply a brightening under eye concealer and blend (why not the Maybelline under eye concealer?)
  3. Follow with your favourite foundation routine; use a concealer to cover any blemishes or inperfections.
  4. Apply mauvey pink blush on the apples of the cheek like Eva. My favourite one is Flush by Tarte. Tap lightly for a faded flush.

Lips

  1. For a natural nude look: use a lip stain that is the same as your lip colour only better. I love Exposed by Tarte because it is matte and has intense longevity.
  2. Apply a pinky nude gloss on top for a sheen. I love this one in either bare naked or bare pink (and it pairs perfectly with the Tarte Lip surgence!)

Finishing touches:

  1. Apply a setting powder first and then setting spray so nothing budges! I love the Urban Decay All nighter spray and Makeup forever’s HD setting powder.

Remember: You can always modify this make up look based on what works best for you. If you are still at a loss, you can invest in a smokey eye palette (what I did when I was first learning how to master this look). Urban Decay has the Naked Smoky Palette which is fantastic for beginners.

Review: Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Liquid Lipstick

dsc02533

Hello Dolls! Hope you’re having an awesome day! If you haven’t checked out my previous post, make sure you do by clicking right here. And as always, follow me on all my socials listed at the top of this page. In this post, I’m finally bringing you a review (it’s been a minute) of one of my favourite liquid lipstick brands. Anastasia Beverly Hills changed the liquid lipstick game, when they released these babies. They’re practically always sold out and these are the ones I’ve been able to get my hands on. So without further adieu…

First Impressions

dsc02538

Remember when I said this was one of my favourite makeup brands ever? Well these products are one of the main reasons why. Initially, I picked these up because the Sephora worker suggested I try “Carina”, since I was in the market for finding a bright pink lipstick. As always, I fell in love with first swatch and decided to pick up 3 more shades I was dying to try. They were Dusty Rose, Catnip and Kathryn (more on the shades individually below). Not only do these swatch well but they feel great on your lips too!

Product Formula, Application, Packaging and Swatches

The formula of this product is incredibly awesome. Like I cannot even explain to you how great these feel on your lips. They keep your lips moisturized and they dry incredibly quickly on your lips. They also stay put. That means it’s food, smudge, drink, kiss, etc. proof and you know how much I love products that doesn’t require me to reapply them. I’ve had these babies on for HOURS and never had to reapply them once. And I’m not speaking just for one shade but ALL four of these shades. The product application is simple and just like your typical liquid lipstick. The applicator is generic, so nothing surprising there. The packaging is also pretty generic, so nothing too extravagant. Which is fine because I’m always more interested in what the product does versus what it looks like. Let’s break down the individual shades. They’re all matte and they look gorgeous.

  • Kathryn: I think the best way I can describe this is a brick reddish-brown.
  • Dusty Rose: Pretty much the same as its namesake. It’s a dusty rose nude.
  • Carina: Literally one of my favourite shades ever. A bright watermelon pink
  • Catnip: A mauvey plummy nude.

Each one of these shades swatch incredibly well. In fact, every swatch you see below is just one swipe of the colour. All four of these shades are my most worn lipsticks ever. Below you’ll see the picture of the shades without and with flash:

Availability, Accessibility and Price

You can pick yours up at Sephora or any Anastasia Beverly Hills retailers for $26 (CDN)!

Overall Rating

I am in love with all these shades and can’t wait to add more colours to my kit! The price is great, the swatches are super pigmented and they feel super natural on your lips. I mean what more can you ask for?

Review: Tom Ford Beauty’s Cheek Colour Blush In Wicked

dsc02459

Hi Dolls! Hope you’re having an awesome day! If you haven’t checked out my previous post then you can do so by clicking right here. Today, I’ve got a review of a blush for you. This is not an ordinary blush though, this particular gem is made by the coveted Tom Ford Beauty line. And if you know me personally, you already know that Tom Ford has to be one of my favourite designers out there, specifically for men’s clothing (seriously he enhances the handsomeness of every man who wears his designs). So when he came out with a beauty line, you know I fangirled hard!

First Impressions

dsc02456dsc02463

When I first saw this at the Holt Renfrew counter, I was mesmerized. Even though it’s got a hefty price tag, I fell in love at first swatch. Literally. I’m not even kidding. I tried it on my cheeks in the store and it brightened up my complexion so much that I just had to have it. I opted for the shade called Wicked. The shade is your typical reddish pink and the formula on first touch felt smooth! What I instantly loved about this is the fact that it’s neither sheer nor super opaque (you know clown looking) and that’s the perfect formula for a blush. It’s a powder that is supposed to feel like cream on your cheeks.

Product Formula & Packaging

dsc02460

The formula of this blush is incredible. It’s smooth and it blends into your cheeks SO well. Since it’s a powder that’s meant to feel like a cream on your cheeks, it isn’t powdery at all. In fact, I didn’t have any sort of fall out even when I had it on my brush. It’s SUPER buildable. If you want a sheer glow added to your cheeks, then all you have to do is tap it on your cheek bones and blend. If you want bold pop of colour, then you can layer to build intensity without looking like a clown. It felt like velvet on my cheeks and it didn’t bother my skin or my foundation at all. Also, it stayed put until I used makeup wipes to remove it! I think the best way I can describe this blush’s feel is that it’s super luxurious….and I like. The packaging is adorable, sleek and very Tom Ford. It comes in a velour pouch, perfect for travel. It also has a ginormous mirror as well as the size of the blush is pretty big.

Packaging Rating: 10/10

Product Formula: 10/10

Swatches

dsc02465dsc02470

As I mentioned, the shade I went with is called Wicked. It’s a pink with hints of red. All I have to say is that this has to be one of my favourite blushes to go to just based on colour and opacity. You can build the colour, you can have it sheer…YOU are the one in control and that’s the best part! The colour payoff is magnificently great!

Swatch: 10/10

Price, Availability, & Accessibility

So, it does have a hefty luxurious price tag attached to it. You can have this for a cool $71 (CDN) and it can be found online or at any Tom Ford Beauty retailer. I got mine at Holt Renfrew.

Final Verdict

Despite the price, I absolutely love this blush. It’s luxurious. The colour payoff is incredible and the best part is that YOU have control over how much you want on your cheeks because it’s so blendable. If you’ve got extra cash around, this is for you!

Overall Rating: 9.5/10

See you in the next post!
